hey fellow music nerds
i have a dj gig coming up soon and i am looking for your input. our idea is TECHNOIR, club music of the future seen through 80’s sci-fi and cyberpunk films. An obvious track for this is PTP, and other “dry” sounding industrial. (U-Men from front 242, numb’s wasted sky, etc) i have alot of neo 80’s synth stuff, but am looking to round out my sets with some more possibly obscure gems.
looking for some good suggestions, and hoping you guys can link some stuff from teh youtubbs.
Brian Eno’s Baby’s On Fire from his insanely awesome Here Come The Warm Jets LP from 1973 is one of my go to tunes with sets when it comes to obscure futuristic old songs. This thing came out in 1973 and STILL sounds totally fresh…not to mention it has the deadliest most vicious guitar solo known to mankind. It’s not 80s and wasn’t used in a sci fi, however it has been used in film before.

Eno’s Here Come The Warm Jets and Beefheart’s Safe As Milk are the two greatest albums ever made (along with Led Zeppelin’s Untitled).
The first band that came to mind (despite you having plenty of synth tracks) was Cassandra Complex, and they actually have an album called “Cyberpunx” from 1990. It’s not their best album, but maybe “Nightfall” would work?

I’d agree with that although for me I’d be adding Monks - Black Monk Time instead of Zep.
leaving for work in a min, just wanted to highlight this track is fucking killer, and kinda exactly the “sound” i had in my mind but was unable to articulate.
thanks so far bros, i will check this thread out after work.

This is correct…well the first two anyway…
Didn’t Billy Idol do an album called Cyberpunk? Remember when he was trying to reinvent himself…he lost the spiked hair and grew dreads…man, that was horrid…
