80's cyberpunk industrial

hey fellow music nerds
i have a dj gig coming up soon and i am looking for your input. our idea is TECHNOIR, club music of the future seen through 80’s sci-fi and cyberpunk films. An obvious track for this is PTP, and other “dry” sounding industrial. (U-Men from front 242, numb’s wasted sky, etc) i have alot of neo 80’s synth stuff, but am looking to round out my sets with some more possibly obscure gems.

looking for some good suggestions, and hoping you guys can link some stuff from teh youtubbs.

Brian Eno’s Baby’s On Fire from his insanely awesome Here Come The Warm Jets LP from 1973 is one of my go to tunes with sets when it comes to obscure futuristic old songs. This thing came out in 1973 and STILL sounds totally fresh…not to mention it has the deadliest most vicious guitar solo known to mankind. It’s not 80s and wasn’t used in a sci fi, however it has been used in film before.

Eno’s Here Come The Warm Jets and Beefheart’s Safe As Milk are the two greatest albums ever made (along with Led Zeppelin’s Untitled).

The first band that came to mind (despite you having plenty of synth tracks) was Cassandra Complex, and they actually have an album called “Cyberpunx” from 1990. It’s not their best album, but maybe “Nightfall” would work?

I’d agree with that although for me I’d be adding Monks - Black Monk Time instead of Zep.

I don’t know if this is really “cyber” (whatever that is) but I think it would be awesome if you played this (it’s industrial, at least).

“Cleanliness and Order”

This is correct…well the first two anyway…

Didn’t Billy Idol do an album called Cyberpunk? Remember when he was trying to reinvent himself…he lost the spiked hair and grew dreads…man, that was horrid…

ViViSectVi is definitely a desert island selection for me.

Front Line Assembly is the ultimate cyberpunk band for me, especially Caustic Grip.

In the 90s Babyland and Atari Teenage Riot got the punk aspect of Cyberpunk pretty good. Portion Control in the 80s.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZXv7Kn4dxPY&sns=em[\url] is a great Portion Control track

I always bought this song was cyberpunk as fuck in a computer programmer sense, and it’s the only song by THD I ever liked:

Actually “Temper” by Puppy/FLA side project is also cyberpunk as fuck, though if can’t find it on youtube.

Also, FLA/Klinik side project Noise Unit has this great track

That track is mixed by and has guitar and vocals by Luc Van Acker strangely enough.

Borghesia is fucking awesome

Batz Without Flesh are also awesome
http://youtu.be/DYM9V0m1A8Us just one of many great tracks

Their early stuff (1987-1990) is pure cyberpunk imo.

Billy Idol RULES and Cyberpunk is a decent album (retarded name and even more retarded cover art, though*).

Full blooded gay for Billy, fuck you all.

  • Also his hair was retarded as were the clothes he was wearing at the time.

Nothing wrong with being gay for Billy.

Rebel Yell is one slice of 80’s pop rock perfection. And Stevie Stevens was an 80’s guitar god, the likes of which will never be seen again.

I don’t think I ever heard Cyberpunk.

Gunnar did you ever get into Adam Ant?

Billy did a live show in Glasgow about 2yrs back and got super positive reviews for it.

Billy2 did a show at Bill’s Gambling Saloon in Vegas 2yrs back opening up for Chinese Frank Sinatra and the place went nuts.
