How do you convert it from flac for it to be able to play on itunes? Getting it now, but no idea on how i’m going to even listen to it.

If you want to convert it to MP3, you will need to decode the FLAC files to WAV and then encode to MP3. Here is a link to the FLAC software (http://flac.sourceforge.net/download.html) needed to decode the FLAC files to WAV. (Assuming your using Windows, you need to download the “FLAC for Windows with installer”) Then you can use iTunes (or what ever you like) to encode to MP3.

If your a Mac user your in luck, if your willing to tweak your system a little, here is tutorial on how to play FLAC files in iTunes on a mac http://earpick.wordpress.com/2007/06/11/how-to-play-flac-in-itunes-on-mac/

Hope this helps,
Brian

thanks a lot man!!!

thanks

Downloaded this program that can convert, which is very useful. Haven’t heard the entire thing yet, but the quality isn’t bad at all. And from what I heard (Lets Go), it might sound a lot better live than on album. I’ll listen to the entire thing in a few most likely.

Thanks again.

Hey Now, Am new to the list and saw Brian’s post for the Denver show. Tried to get on Dime to get the show and they are not taking anyone right now,SO if there is some one out there that could burn this show for me, i will send you blanks + pay the return postage. Any help with this show or any other ones would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers, Doc Miller

I am also seeding the show on TTD, http://tinyurl.com/5yy2ad They are a little more liberal with their logins.

grmpysmrf - Your welcome. Thank you for the review and titleing the recording in my honor. I can’t say that I have been a fan in a long long time, I haven’t seen them since 1992 (with Body Count and Sepultura and Helmet) and have not baught an album since Psalm 69. But since this is supposed to be the last tour I made sure to catch it.

I’m pretty dumb to all of the stuff you wrote as far as recording goes. can you break it down in layman’s terms?
I.E “i used a sony digital disc recorder, stuffed into the front pocket of my shirt while i stood in the back middle of the floor by the sound board” or something to that effect. btw how did you smuggle in recording equipment?

Recorder: I use an iRiver H120 (http://tinyurl.com/3jxecx) which are no longer made but can be found on eBay. It is pretty small, a little bigger than an iPod. I suggest using the wired remote, it allows for full control of the H120 without having to pull it out of a pocket.

Recording Software: I use the Rockbox software loaded onto the iRiver (http://www.rockbox.org/). It looks a little intimidating from the webpage, but it is quite easy to install and use.

Microphones: There are MANY options for mics, I use Core-Sound Low Cost Binaurals, (http://tinyurl.com/3jhaxv) they are very small, inexpensive (you can easily spend $1k on mics) and have given me pretty good recordings in most situations. They are not ideal for outdoor recordings, unless I record from just the right spot.

Recording: As far as “smuggling” the rig into the venue, it is pretty easy with this setup. The H120 is an MP3 player, if questioned, I just tell them it is an MP3 player and they let me in. I try to remember to bring along a set of ear buds to give the impression I use it to listen to MP3s. Coincidentally, this Ministry show was the first time I have actually been asked about it.

Once in the venue, I put the recorder in a cargo pant pocket, backpack or jacket pocket (in winter), clip the remote to my shirt tail, run the mic wires up the back of my shirt and into a baseball cap and velcro the mics under the bill of my hat.

I try to stand as close to the soundboard as possible, the sound is mixed from there and should have the best sound in the venue. Don’t get too close, they may see your rig and kick you out.

Editing: Plug the iRiver into your PC via USB, copy the .wav file onto your PC. I use CDWave (http://tinyurl.com/4pk4m5) to cut up the recording into individual tracks. I then compress the tracks with either the FLAC program (http://flac.sourceforge.net/) or Trader’s Little Helper (http://tlh.easytree.org/). Trader’s Little Helper is a great program for doing all the stuff needed to torrent a recording, it compresses, creates checksum files, creates .torrent files, etc.
Best of all, ALL this software is free.

Check out http://taperssection.com/ for more info on recording live music. They are a good groups of folks and are very helpful to newbies. Etree (http://etree.org/) and the forums on TTD and Dime are other good resources.

Hope this helps, and wasn’t too much info,
Brian

If I may so sir, You re genius! If I get a little bit of extra cash and time I may try this set up!!
**I just checked Ebay they are 150 bucks and they say “MP3 player.” You wrote it came with Rockbox or you had to install rockbox? Is it just a normal mp3 player and you change it over to be a recorder? (if so you could potentially do this to an iPod?)is there anyway of messiing up your unit if you mess up the install? That’s a bit of money for some experimentation!

The factory software allows you to record, but the Rockbox software is much more powerful (allows for level adjustments, etc.) You have to install Rockbox software onto the h120. It is a normal MP3 player, but unlike most MP3 players it has a input designed to record. Some MP3 players have “voice recording” inputs or mics, but the quality is terrible.

With the Rockbox software install you can still use the unit as an MP3 player. So your $150+ is buying a recorder and an MP3 (or .wav or .FLAC) player

There is always a chance of messing up the unit when you install non-factory software, but the Rockbox software has been well tested and is used by many people. I am not a computer geek and I was able to do it in less than an hour.

There is another option, the Creative Nomad JB3 (http://tinyurl.com/3qgan2) is another MP3 player that has an input. These units are no longer made either, so eBay is your friend. However, this unit is a bit larger (looks a lot like a disc man). You can find many threads on TapersSection.com debating between the JB3 and the H120.

Brian

Can anyone maker this available elsewhwere for us non-dimers? (soulseek perhaps?)

Thanks to brian
