2005 - What does it hold for Ministry?

Will 2005 be a null and void year on the Ministry calendar? Do they have anything planned at all? I know there’s supposedly going to be a new Revco album - but even the details on that release are a little sketchy.

If you ask me, you won’t see much of Al this year. I’d say '05 will be a lot like 1994 or 1998 or 2001 - a bit of a sleeper year. I suppose this is no different for fans of other bands though. At least we don’t have to wait five years between releases like Tool fans do. That’s just stupid.

I suppose all we can hope for is that he starts writing and recording for a release sometime in '06. But since Paul has left my interest in the band has waned considerably and my faith has been sorely tested. Houses… was not the comeback I had hoped for. A solid ‘metal’ album but nothing more. So I gotta ask myself…is it really worth holding your breath and counting down the hours, when all that’s going to happen is you’re going to get slapped in the face!

Any thoughts?

I thought there was going to be a tour with Killing Joke. We’ll probably see the return of Revco at some point this year too.

I dunno, that Ministry/KJ tour sounds too good to be true, a la Ministry/Puppy. I’d love to hear Al come out on stage and sing “Eighties”…he could totally turn that one into a 1000 Homo DJs tune!

…and Jaz on “Thieves”.

Yeah, ok, so it’ll never happen.

if the ‘return of revco’ will be in the same vein as that ‘prune tang’ track, then i hope not!!

actually, some GOOD (not butchering) remasterings of all early lps would be nice.

I’m told that LORAH will be remastered one day in the near future. In fact I believe it was Al himself who said this during that Live chat thing he had with the fans just before Houses came out.

It’s still to raise its ugly head!

No word or anything?? A remastered LORAH is definitely high on my wish list.

Regarding Killing Joke…they are recording a new album in Cairo sometime around May/June/July. It will be out by years end. Hopefully this means it will be middle eastern influenced like Pandaemonium…which was insane.

And I can’t see a Joke/Ministry tour ever happening.

Yeah, a nice (stereo) remaster of LORAH would be a gift from the heavens. A nice two-disc blowout with lotsa extras. mmmm

Hello!

Someone mentioned Killing Joke?

I Love Killing Joke, more than Ministry.

I knew there was a new album soon to be in the works but I had no idea they were recording in Cairo, oh man, I sincerely hope it’s like Pandemonium, or even Democracy, I Love those albums.

A KJ/Ministry tour would just, would just make me cry tears of joy…

Am I the only one here who doesn’t want the new Killing Joke to sound like ‘Pandemonium’?

That album was not bad (unlike ‘Democracy’ which is really useless), but not very… Killing Joke (were was Geordie’s typical guitar sound?).

I would be a lot more happy if they did something like some sort of “dark post-punk” à la ‘Wardance’ meets ‘Unspeakable’ meets ‘Age Of Greed’ with a modern production…

Anyway, they’ll do what they want to do…

But, yes, even if I saw already both bands live, it would be great to see them tour together… A dream I guess…

I believe that 2005 will be a great year for Al. Not Ministry. He has been getting around a lot now that he’s finally got his head back on and out of the drugs. I mean… Really… On drugs we had like what, an album every 3 years or so? And now we’ve had two albums within two years, a few re-releases of sorts (Early/Side Trax), and a solid promise from him for more good things to come. I think in 2005 we will probably see Al doing a lot of work on some side projects, such as the fact that we know Revolting Cocks is coming out with something soon (and who cares if it sounds like Prunetang did? At least it’s new stuff, which is all we’re really asking for, right?) and there was even mention of some new Lard stuff near the end of 2004, which while the idea may be only on the back burner for now, I see it as being very likely if the RevCo goes through. Also, with some of the other more “known” industrial artists coming back to life, there may be a very good chance of some nice collabortaions. I mean, it’s not all that hard to imagine with NIN having a new album that Al and Trent get together and do some remix work, or possibly tour together since Trent did help with RevCo for a bit. As for Paul being gone, that shouldn’t slow down much of anything really. It seems to me that while Paul has always been the more technical and experimental side, that is almost always the side of any band that makes them slow down their wriiting processes cuz it just takes a LONG time to get those samples and other effects going exactly how you want them. So who knows, I could be wrong but I don’t think it’ll be a sleeper year at all… just more of a behind the scenes thing. =)

Oh yeah… And when I talked to Al at the New Orleans show he said he definately going to be working on some of the Buck Satan stuff sometime in '05 or at the least in '06, so that’s something we can all be happy to wait for.

Peace!

Krowe

Revolting Cocks is coming out with something soon (and who cares if it sounds like Prunetang did? At least it’s new stuff, which is all we’re really asking for, right?)

well, sorry, i just don’t like the ‘new’ cocks who are actually now revolting cock since al is the only ‘cock’ that remains. prune tang sounds and is really boring, unlike previous revco stuff which had some ‘something’ in it, some spark. it’s just looks like prune tang was whipped out by al & co in sort of half-hour on the whole thing and to me it has more of lard sound than revco. shame tho, the classic revco reunion would be superneat. after all, since those great albums were made (bsl, bs&q, lfg) one can expect more than just some boring riffs in the vein of houses of the mole. but then again, if it’s al having fun, then… so be it.

i dunno how closer is lorah to remaster/rerelease, i just wish they don’t butcher it like revco’s ‘remasters’ of big sexy land (horrible sounding overall) and you goddamn son of a bitch (split in two cds wtf), not to mention these releases didn’t have any “never before released extras/bonuses” as it was proclaimed at first. there is something about copyright deal with warner bros that holds re-releases of that stuff. i’d love to see classic era ministry remasterings-re-releases of course, if they done professionally, with no fuck-ups (a la side trax) and without ruining the running order of classic stuff and withouth changing cover art, i’m all for it. besides, lorah is long out of print. and as i stated lots of times before, just do a 2cd versions of rereleases… stick original recording on first one, and let all the bonuses/remixes/demos/etc go onto the second…

and as for the 2005-2006 - i dunno, the dream is still of a final great ministry album and a show in st. petersburg, russia, heheh.

edit: on the buck satan - yea i wanna hear it too, especially if it would be close to stuff on bridge school benefit (friend of the devil)!!!

Early Trax was probably the best of the bunch, with the few new rarities it had included. A LORAH re-issue is definitely a must, but keep the original artwork, please (no ‘paint-overs’).

I’d like to see the following releases before Al calls it a day w/Ministry:

  1. You Goddamned Son Of A Bitch DVD
  2. In Case You Didn’t Feel Like Showing Up DVD (re-issue an appended version of the audio CD, too)
  3. The Land Of Rape and Honey w/extras
  4. Twitch w/extras
  5. The Mind Is A Terrible Thing To Taste w/extras
  6. Another REVCO live CD, this time from the infamous BSQ tour (someone’s gotta have the master recordings somewhere)

Hey, I can dream, but I think it’s a good to-do list.

I guess I’m alot more interested in what Paul has in store for us rather than anything that Al may spit out under the Ministry moniker anytime soon. Paul always seemed to be the more clued in of the two, not to mention the more experimentally inclined. Al seems happy to churn out verse chorus verse metal. Same old lame riffs, same old tired beats and samples.

Sure, I realise that some people here may like that kind of thing…whatever. But I think that Paul is really going branch out on this new release. He’s got a lot to prove after living in Al’s shadow all these years and I think it’s about time to give credit where credit’s due.

As for Revco, they don’t interest me in the slightest. I’ve always HATED them and this new stuff only proves just how shitty they always were. Prune Tang was pathetic however big a fan you are. No excuse for sub standard material.

Really? Well, to be honest I don’t mind what KJ do as everything they’ve done is great in my opinion (apart from maybe the less great Brighter Than A Thousand Suns…).

I really like Democracy, I’ve never understood what it is people have against it, when it has songs like Medicine Wheel and Pilgrimage, how can you go wronf? (Okay, myabe Lanters is a bit, Brighter Than A Thousands SUns-sish, but, it’s only one song on an album…).

I saw KJ on the recent album’s tour, they played a blinding set, I’m more looking forward to seeing them live again than I am seeing Ministry for the first time.

Sorry, I’m gushing a bit, but there isn’t much Ministry stuff to talk about right now, so, yeah.

Any thoughts?

I’m thinking some UK tour dates would be nice before Al even thinks about visiting any recording studios.

Funny how some people now seem more excited by what Paul might release in the future than by what Al is doing now. And on the other hand, a lot of people seem to dislike the songs sung by Paul and/or the entire ‘Dark Side’ album…

And who said that Paul was always in the shadow of Al? Is that even true? I started to be curious in everything Ministry related 16 years ago, but can’t state such thing. Might be true or not…

Quick Al update-

He has been in the studio doing a Biafra/Melvins remix.
From what I’ve been told “It’s Awesome!”

This is true to some degree. I mean the last few tracks on Twitch are quite “experimental” and Paul wasn’t even involved then.

It’s also true that Darkside was mostly Paul and if you don’t like album you’re probably expecting too much of Paul’s next release.

I like most of Dark Side though and some of the more bizarre Paul-ish tracks on Animositisomina (Useless, Impossible, Leper).

And some of Pink Anvil kicked ass. I mean its a fun record but its kind of an all or nothing deal. Many tracks don’t hold up well on their own, although I love “Unmerry” the most.

Some are good, but buried under too much damn distortion.

Then again it is all live so I like it for what it is.

But Paul remains the more interesting member for most people, myself included, because at least he’s still into progressing musically and exploring new things. Al is content with his “verse chorus” (as someone said) metal complete with the tired samples,…which do sound sooo tired on HOTM.

From Side-Line:

“Although rumoured here and there, Al Jourgensen from Ministry will not join Killing Joke on stage during their 25th anniversary gigs in London. In a chat with Side-Line a spokeswoman for Jourgensen said: “Raven and Al discussed this possibility in Portland Oregon last year when we were on the Evil Doer Tour. However, due to Al’s studio schedule - he is currently working on a re-mix for The Melvins/Jello Biafra - he will not be able to perform in London for the Killing Joke Anniversary celebration.” Nevertheless Paul Raven, Jaz Coleman and Al Jourgensen are currently discussing plans for a collaboration project. More to come as those plans unfold. In more Killing Joke news, the two shows at Shepherd’s Bush Empire are to be filmed for a future live DVD release.”

Who actually is repsonsible for the remastering for such recent releases as ST/ET? There are no credits.

Do you think the ‘tinniness’ of Dark Side… and Animostisomina was more Pauls’ doing as it’s non-existent on Houses…
I think both albums would have faired better with more bass added to the percussion, although Animositisomina is still my favourite album.
