[reply][reply]Yeah of all the records, I’d most want this one remastered. Because the mix literally ruins a good record. Whereas with ‘LORAH’ for instance yeah it’s a bit dated sounding but it IS a bit dated…

Regarding Al and Paul, the impression I get is that they don’t even listen to their albums, probably this one in particular because it wasn’t a “classic”. I know Max Brody confirmed that Al mixed the record.

The Ministry sound had become so inbred by that point…when I play stuff from ‘DSOTS’ or ‘Animositisomina’ for my bandmates, their comments are always revolving around how the songs and ideas are interesting but the mix is awful and they can’t bare it…

i think the DSOTS album sounds great! it’s a different sound, but it’s not unpleasant (at least in my opinion) to your ears. [/reply]

No don’t get me wrong I love it too but it sounds shite to most ears. Ministry’s mixing sound was really unique, and I think really inbred in a weird way.

I mean they were producing their own shit all along it just took on a sound that’s really different from most bands, and I think really adds to the inaccessibility to most people, even fans of other heavy music.[/reply]
I’m always amazed at you guys that can pick apart a mix. Like that tinny sound you guys all talk about and how the dsots is the worst offender… I don’t hear it. For my ears dsots is the most low ended ministry album to date.
God Bless you guys!

it has alot of rumbling low end, sure
but at same time alot of high freqs as well
almost like a dub feeling i get from dsots, bass wise

In DSOTS you definitely can feel the warmth of the low end, that balances the mix quite well. I also have friends who think the album sucks mainly because of the mix, but I think it sounds great, different, heavy; it’s oppressive but you still can hear clearly everything in the mix.

Animotisominatisominaotisimonima seems like someone is piercing my ear drums with needles drenched in acid. At the same time it’s more complex and richer than the next records and that makes it up a little.

Anyway, I like the album, always loved Broken.

good points overall.

its not that remaster is needed, fukkin full remix is needed…

Adrian Sherwood…

Animositisomina has its moments for sure. I saw them live twice on that tour…once in London then in Glasgow a few months later. My experience was a little different however to most folks here…I thought they were a tired band about to die which saddened me greatly. The last time I saw them before the AnimosiTour was headlining the Big Day Out and @ Selina’s in Sydney in Jan 94 and it was a life changer… ESPECIALLY the Selina’s gig. They were the greatest live show known to mankind!!
At the time I headed down to London to see them they had been my favourite band for around 12yrs and I was just so happy to finally catch them again…but they were not the same band.
However the Animosity shows I saw were like Hendrix compared to the shows to follow!
I remember Supermanic Soul being the highlight of those shows.

Well the European leg of the Fornicatour was later in the year. Maybe they didn’t have much of a break and were fatigued?

I seen them in Glasgow that year, the only one to seem fatigued was Al. Seemed out of breath and tired etc but he was a bit fatter and stuff after kicking the drugs.
Rey Washam was on drums, was great to see the other drummer go between sax and drums. Was a great gig.
Only down side was Supernaut which was boring and JBMH had Rey on guitar. It was a total mess! but pretty fun.

Animositisomina’s a great album. If you have an average to decent stereo the only problem left is your ears, goes from full on abrasive noise to a sort of weird mellowness like the kind you get on dsots, only stranger.

Some people can’t handle treble as if it’s not a viable compartment of the sound spectrum, as if it’s associated with badness. probably a taste thing like heavy music versus lush jazz. However, there are some moments when it’s too compressed and is a bit brickwalled but considering how great most of it sounds this is a minor problem. Play it back to back with hotm and it’s still a superior recording sonically, just not as polished. the sound of the album suits the genral rage of it too.

Does she still look that good? Looking up making of Relapse vids right now.

Well, that was 10 years ago . . . does anyone gal 30 look as good as she did 10 years prior?

That being said, I think she still looks great. She is often wearing something sort of ridiculous or some baggy road gear and that doesn’t really do justice for a woman. But when she wears something nice and does her hair, yeah, she can look really attractive. She’s what? Almost 50, yeah?

I like her short black hair look in that pic. She should try that (maybe a wig) again sometime to see if she can still pull it off (then we can do a proper side by side test, hahaha).

I thought she was disgusting looking when she was luring Al back onto the bus with cigs and alcohol.

HAHA! That video only lasted about 4 hours before it got pulled. I don’t remember what she looked like physically, but I know many didn’t find that particular “behaviour” super attractive.

She was super skinny and saggy at the same time. and I don’t mean just her tits.

Awesome pics. Kudos.

I’m really digging this album these days. After a semester of music theory and a healthy appreciation for jazz, I really, REALLY like Impossible. 7/4, right? Has there been any goofy time signatures before or since in the Ministry catalogue aside from the ambient stuff?

The “Barker” trilogy (Filth Pig, DSOTS, and Ainimositisominatimasomina) has some of the goofiest shit going on lyrically, musically, and sonically, and while things were at a drastic and noticeable decline for everyone in the camp, it produced some of their best, edgiest, and maybe most inscrutable work.

Fuck, man.

Good stuff.

brick windows is 5/4 in verses, 4/4 in refrains

animosity is jumping around weirdly due to random length of a break after each 2 lines of a verse (i don’t even wanna try to count it out), before switching to 4/4 at like, very very end

reload is jumping between 3/4 and 4/4 if i remember correctly

oh yes of course, jbmhr is in either 6/4 or 5/4, i forgot which tho.

i’m sure there are couple of others

Would I be right in saying ‘Kaif’ is not your regular time signature either?

There was a song on Houses that messed around a bit as well.

Then there was that Lard song off the last E.P.

Would I be right in saying ‘Kaif’ is not your regular time signature either?

yes

Hah. I just put on Kaif right now to listen and yeah, there’s this stutter that makes it kinda off-time. Cool stuff.

Man. Barker Trilogy rules.
