10/26/04 - Charlotte, NC @ Tremont Music Hall

Just got this Boot, I have no idea where it was recorded from… sounds like a sound board mix, but probably not because everything is clear, not crisp mind you, but clear! BUT the kicker is for at least the songs i listened to, the scary vox effects, are not present!! the samples are loud and in your face, but the vox effects are off! was this an accident by the set up crew or was al intentionally singing with the effects off?

sounds like it might be a “monitor mix”. this is the mix the fellow band mates hear while on stage - not the crowd.

Agreed. Monitor mixes are usually heavy on the dry vocal and sample/keyboards and low on bass guitar and drums, except for kick and a little snare. Having some kick in the monitors ensures that everyone can hear the beat.

thanks guys. I’ll bet it is a monitor mix-based on your description slack! although, you can hear people in the audience at certain points quite clearly. is that indicative of a monitor mix? I wouldn’t mind posting a few tracks (later on today) for you guys to check out if you want…

I was at that show as well as the one the next night in SC on the Evil Doer tour. It’s been a couple of years but I’d love to hear a few songs from that boot and see if that’s how I recall hearing the performance. I distinctly remember the NC show sounding worse than the SC show.

The way the Tremont is set up, all of the mixing area stuff is at the very back wall of the main room, with the entire crowd separating the stage from the mixing booth and people are right up against the booth so anything’s possible.

That particular venue (Tremont) has very hit or miss acoustics and gets very loud. Again, it’s been some time since that gig I do seem to vaguely remember the samples & instruments being deafening with Al’s voice was frequently nearly lost amongst the noise. I’ve attended all 3 times Ministry’s played at that particular venue and, Al’s shot voice notwithstanding, I noticed the audio there varied from tour to tour and of course from venue to venue.

P.S. When TKK opened there Groovie’s vox were also especially hard to hear/understand and seemed sorta lost in the mix.

Al’s voice was frequently nearly lost amongst the noise.

Not on this boot! you can almost hear each individual lyric being sung by al! I’ll get my desktop up and running and post some of the show no guarantees on how long that will take, But I’ll start in a few minutes!

Pretty cool, thanks for uploading that one!

After listening through those tracks, I can definitely say that I recall Al’s Hotrod vox sounding more “processed” and Gibby-like…same goes for So What. Supernaut probably received a little less processing for vox effects than the other songs.

In all of the songs you posted, the samples definitely sound like I remember them but I’d say that this is probably indeed a monitor mix recording based on what I recall from that gig.

Pretty cool, thanks for uploading that one!

no prob! thanks for saying thanks!

I love Tremont Music Hall.

the venue itself, or what I posted?

It’s a decent enough venue for a rowdy, drunken, rockin’ time but it was better a decade or so ago–a bit more diverse crowds, acts etc. It always annoys me when you see a sizable group of people hanging around the video arcade machines & playing pool throughout the entire concert. Only in the south!

Mark Spybey almost got robbed outside there. Heh.
