Year Zero

The album blows.

If you like it you are gay.
Oh, put some fucking effort in it, you wanker. Disappointing.
You’ve attacked me for making lazy comments like that before, so let’s have it. Why exactly am I gay for liking this album?

Because when you’re 14; everything and everyone “not cool” is gay. Didn’t get the memo? God, you’re behind on the times. [:)]

Please stop responding to Peligro. He’s a troll and you’re feeding him.
It’s like you all failed Internet 101.

On the first listen I thought Reznor really didnt bother his arse with it moreso than the forgettable ‘With Teeth’ but on repeated listens I think it works very well as an album. It fits the concept album method efficiently as despite the songs all sounding familiar at first, on repeated listening they become more distinguished amongst themselves. Though Reznor’s concept is a bit vague and not very original he has created an apt soundtrack. The best songs ive found are ‘The Beginning of the End’, ‘The Good Soldier’, ‘The Greater Good’, ‘In the Twilight’ and ‘Zero Sum’. Saying that there are some weak songs esp. ‘My Violent Heart’ and some others just end up in a fumbling amateurish mess namely ‘Vessel’ and ‘The Great Destroyer’. With the possible exception of ‘The Beginning of the End’ there are no singles as such which I think is a good thing as thats the way he approached ‘With Teeth’ and it was crap. Supposedly there’s a part 2 to come of Year Zero which I dont know is there a point to at the moment but he certainly is going to a lot of trouble with all the websites and gimmickry that has accompanied this album. Wouldnt rate it alongside his best work (between 91-95) but in saying that I think il only appreciate this album more with time. Oh and regards the lyrics for which Reznor has been notoriously crap since ‘Downward Spiral’ there not that bad on ‘Year Zero’.

Since the world apparently ends at the conclusion of Year Zero, it’ll certainly be interesting to see what the sequel (Year One?) could possibly be about.

i thought year zero ends with some big disaster or cataclysm, but not the end of the world?

Just my interpretation - that The Presence and some more terrestrial force (The Great Destroyer) pretty much wipe the slate clean at the end of the album.
I’m sure all will be revealed over the course of the next year or so.
