X-TG (Throbbing Gristle): Desertshore

I could really care less if she did porn, or not. Tutti did. Who cares? I’m pretty curious to see how she plays out on the album though. And I don’t really need to spell it out that they sold me with Blixa. I was going to end up checking this out regardless though. No matter who the vocalist(s) may be.

I wouldn’t really call that porn… Porn is people fucking… This was more like her being abused.

Still porn in my book. If there’s penetration, it’s porn. I’ve seen her in action before. Yeah, it was pretty rough. But I still consider it porn. But she quit the porn industry awhile back. Over a year ago, I think. So I think to my original point of: it doesn’t matter what she did in the past. She’s not a pornstar anymore. Especially when she’s trying to move past all that, which is incredibly difficult for those who have retired from it and tried being taken seriously as real actresses.

She’s going to be stuck with the stigma. I could care less what she’s done. As long as what she does is actually interesting, who cares?

She will be back…ask Ginger Lynn…

Well here’s what Sasha Grey has done in the music world.

That’s actually kinda cool. Might fit in well with X-TG.

I think it would fit in perfectly in some really low-budget “horror” film. Maybe even one she will be starring in.

That’s a good thing I think.

Kinda off topic but I was stoked to see Throbbing Gristle on one of my class syllabi. We’ll be learning about them and a slew of other classic Industrial/electronic acts… Carry on

What class is this?

class of hard knocks.

I was anticipatig this, but I guess I missed it last month:

Enjoy the public feud, rubberneckers!

I thought only wrestlers got into arguments on twitter. Kinda funny.

I noticed all of Gen’s twitter messages regarding this are gone. Reading Gens twitter feed is rather like I imagine Al’s would be, lots of political rants and talk of how the new album is the best thing yet.

Hey I am listening to this now. I had forgotten all about it, then on a whim I listened to Nico’s ‘Desertshore’ in its entirety tonight and fell in love. So naturally I remembered the X-TG version.

It’s quite good! Some of the vocals are spotty here and there but otherwise it’s quite excellent! What do you guys think of it? I’m not all the way through it yet but I can see how Gen singing all the songs wouldn’t really work…(s)he doesn’t have that kind of range or vocal prowess. More a punk kind of singer, though (s)he does have chops and I’m a huge fan of h/er voice…

Regarding Sasha Grey, I think some of the comments on here about her are quite cruel. I mean, Nico herself was a heroine addict for 15 years! You gotta give people a break…

As for Sasha’s vocal performance, so far it is the weakest on the album. She is clearly not as experienced as a singer, but it does work for what it is and I enjoyed it. Checking her out on facebook etc. she seems like a very motivated and bright person and I will look out for her on future stuff!

It’s a good album but falls far short of being a great one. Having so many guest vocalists, for me at least, makes it less coherent and therefore less successful than what it could have been.

I did particularly enjoy the version of Le Petite Chevalier though.

I loved it. Have yet to hear to hear the original album. The only thing from Nico that I’m remotely familiar with is her work with Velvet Underground.

^ the original is fucking brilliant check it out !!

It’s a pretty good album, but I find myself returning to the Final Report a lot more.

The “Final Report” needs Genesis badly and I think that’s really the only thing that is annoying about the X-TG thing is that they should not have used that name to for that collection of tracks.

To me, because of the lack of Genesis, the true “Final Report” of Throbbing Gristle is their reunion album ‘Part Two: The Endless Not’ which I LOVE
