I don’t know anything about a KMFDM connection though. Weird.
I just looked it up - it was Abby Travis, who was Elastica’s bass player around the time that KMFDM record came out, but I don’t think she was a full on permanent member.

So far I can play “six degree of Martin Atkins” with at least two of the bands mentioned here.
You have enough Martin Atkins stories to write a rather impressive sized book. You…do realize that, right?[/reply]
I’ve often thought about writing something on ‘the Invisible years.’ I think it’d come off sounding too much like Jourgensen’s bio, though: lots of sniping at two or three people, to the point where it makes others think “so why the hell did you get involved with them in the first place?”
Also when I got done reading Connelly’s book I just thought, “yeah, there’s now way I’ll be able to describe Martin as well as CC does.”
OK everybody, head over to my Facebook account and give me 1,000 “likes,” and I promise I will reveal to you today’s crop of prematurely ended pop music careers. I hear this new method of self-promotion is “trending”, so I thought I’d give it a try.
How about Jamiroquai? That was a 90s act, no? Did they survive to capture this much-valued ‘niche market’ I keep going on about, or are they sadly living out their remaining days in self-imposed exile while dreaming of floppy hats?
I think Jamiroquai’s career got sniped by Maroon5. Jamiroquai was never gonna get far anyway. Their singer looked exactly like Bud Bundy.

Abby eventually went solo and even did some stuff with Rey Washam.

I remember Elastica and that they had one popular song on the radio around 1995 or so, but I can’t for the life of me remember how it went or what it was called. Can someone tell me what the name of it was?
Someone mentioned Neds here… they were pretty good. I’m terminally frustrated that bands like them, Carter USM, Pop Will Eat Itself and The Wonder Stuff never got the respect they deserved.
I think Neds were great, and PWEI are still in my top 5 bands of all time. Although their newer stuff minus Clint is sub par.
Skunk Anansie came back a couple of years ago and sold out brixton, that was the last I heard of them
Justine from Elastica gave up the smack, left north london and moved to America and became an architect, she presented a series on BBC4 (PBS) about famous architecture. She’s a top person… first Elastica LP was great. Stutter is about Damon Albarn’s limp cock, and it was on the radio all the time - legendary
edit - kula shaker were always seen as posh twat posers in the UK, not surprised they sunk without trace
anyone remember cast? they still play occasionally to small rooms full of fishing hats

Did you get any of the PWEI reissues? The DDMA was appended with their “lost” album. Not a brilliant piece of work, but nice to finally hear.

But…but…they were TERRIBLE!!!

Yeah, can’t say I miss that bunch. Talk about storms in teacups…

I remember Cast. Do you remember that GODAWFUL band that John Squire from The Stone Roses started up in around 1996 - The Seahorses!!?!
Absolute cack!! Cringeworthy. Embarrassing. One of my mates had the misfortune of seeing them at a festival in Britain around this time and he said they were absolute gobshite.
jesus… had actually managed to forget the seahorses - thanks for that!
on the bright side… the manics are threatening to tour “the holy bible” in full

Skunk Anansie (for anyone curious as to why I feel so offended by them):

I have huge respect for Crabbi, but yeah I just can’t get into the new PWEI. Someone else mentioned the recently released '96 album. It is very good, but also missing something. I guess it just won’t be the same.
As for Skunk Anansie - I have to say I kinda liked 'em. They go against everything I stand for, but they were bloody good for what they were. I understand they are still around… I think maybe they’re really big in Europe or something…
The only Skunk Anansie song I’ve heard is “Selling Jesus.” The video came on during Easter at DNA Pizza while I was waiting for the Godflesh show. Came on after “Union Carbide.” Any good reason for the hatred?
Here’s one for the obscure black metal fans:
Thorns. When Snorre Ruch finally got released from prison for being the “accomplice” in Varg’s murder of Euronymous, he put together a supergroup (of sorts) for a split EP with Emperor, and a full length soon after. The result was an evolution in black metal for the reformed band. A followup was announced in '08, but there hasn’t been any word about it since.
if you like the first two dissection albums more than the third, look up the spiteful intent ep - its iirc the storm of the lights bane lineup with a different singer (jon was in jail), pretty good. sorry if old news but met a million dissection fans and none of them have ever heard of it

I never followed them later, but I really dug “Storm The Light’s Bane” back in the day.
Wow, Gunnar! Pretty surprised to know you like Dissection.
