Haha…well it was worth a shot…

:laughing::laughing: this dope

I currently smoke Camel unfiltered, but I miss the days living next to a Native rez that just happened to sell Luckies. I apparently have a death wish.

I don’t have much time as I’d like to read, but I have a copy of Neuromancer somewhere here that I really oughta finish.

I know a guy who is 57 and still smokes Camel non’s…he can barely speak without coughing…no exaggeration…those things will kill you, man…

My wife got me that book a few years back cause I love cyberpunk imagery and settings but man I could not get into that book. I think I made it to the fist bar or outside market or something like that and I just couldn’t hang. I set it down and never picked it back up.

I am approaching my 10th anniversary of quitting.

That’s excellent, man! congratulations, Do you miss it? I had a roommate once that quit cigs but he would fiend whenever someone on tv would light up or he would come home from a long day of work and just complain that he wanted a cig. I had heard he made it a year (he only roomed with me for 8 or 9 months) and then started smoking again.

I don’t miss it at all. In fact, anytime someone on the street asks me for a light or something I smile every time I get to say, “Sorry, I don’t smoke.”

I smoked for 21 years. It was so much a part of my daily routine, I was really scared I wouldn’t be able to. I got on the Chantix and it was a miracle drug, haven’t had the urge to smoke since.

Smoking makes you more susceptible to covid 19 for those who want to quit there’s no better time than now.

Goddamn, 21 years? you start in Jr High? I thought you were around my age… '89 was junior high.
Chantix kicked ass for you huh? I had a kid when I was working at a charter school whose dad was using Chantix to quit and it made him looney as fuck. He would suffer from night terrors… think his wife was cheating on him, say they were getting a divorce, then forget he even wanted a divorce. He’d go off on rage benders for no reason just screaming and yelling his head off for no reason, he’d threaten suicide, at one point he decided the railroad he worked for was bugging his house and was gonna quit and file a trespassing lawsuit against BNSF. the Dr. he was seeing was saying it was side effects of Chantix. The Dr. took him off of Chantix and that shit cleared right up.
I see that kid every now and again I should ask him what happened to dad if he ultimately ended up quitting or if he went back. he was on Chantix I think for about 3 months I quit that school his senior year.

I saw that. Apparently because it’s a respiratory illness all the tar in the lungs fucks you up real bad.

The last time I quit, almost 9 years ago, I developed pneumonia. I went cold-ass turkey and damn near snuffed it from it.

I was a 3 pack a day man, then. Now I’m a 3 cig a day man, if that. When I do quit, it’s gonna be niiiiice and easy, not all at once.

Real talk, getting medical grass is doing wonders for my habit. I’m much less inclined to light up a smoke when I have alternate means of decompressing.

I work in a grocery store so any little respite I can get, the better. I am very prolly gonna contract COVID regardless of how much I protect myself. One slip up from a customer or employee or one bad batch of chicken from our distributors and I’m done-zo.

Back on topic, considering reading for pleasure again, haven’t done so in years now and I’ve met an alarming number of people lately whom actually, factually cannot read. Gotta keep sharp in these crazy times, man. Any recommendations? (Was a dual English/art major in college, so though I’m open to anything, I’ve read a lotta classix lol)

Has to do with this ACE2 receptor apparently we all have these but theyre far more abundant in smokers for some reason. This receptor is what the virus binds itself to and as smokers tend to have more of them it really fucks them up.

Hahaha! Yes, growing up in Ohio they start you early. First smoke I ever had I was probably 7 or 8 years old. I started buying my own packs at 13. Marlboro reds were $1.35/pack, which was the same price as the school lunch, so I would skip lunch one day a week to buy a pack. By 16, my parents didn’t care that I smoked around the house. They both smoked, and all 3 of us kids ended up smokers. I am the only one who’s quit so far.

And yeah, I hear some people have bad reactions to Chantix. I had some bad dreams, but a friend of mine quit cold turkey and he also experienced bad dreams. So frankly, that might have more to do with nicotine withdrawal than it does with Chantix. It made me nauseas on a couple occasions, and I did puke, but that’s a small price to pay to get off the cigs. It worked so well, I ended up quitting a day sooner than what was the goal.

I smoked for about 17 years, a pack a day Marlboro Lights. I tried to quit more times than I can count. Finally succeeded on October 30, 2015. Cold turkey, no patch, no Chantix, nothing. (I tried all of those remedies, to no avail.) Lesson learned: If you want it badly enough, it’ll happen naturally. That was the most significant difference between all those failed attempts and that one successful one. The other times, someone else wanted me to quit. This time, I wanted it.

As for fiending for it now, I don’t. In fact, it smells terrible. I don’t know what I was thinking, honestly. Biggest mistake of my entire life, hands down.

its causing blood clotting… there goes my hopes of watching sports this year lol. states considering opening the economy may have to put a kibosh on that. this stupid bitch has mutated.

All the dumb ass red states are the only ones I know of that wanna reopen… I say let 'em. They can “freedom protest” right into their graves. one less asshole voting for authoritarianism is Nov.
