What are you listening to right now?

deadmau5

Saw him last week at some huge techno fest in LA, it was wild seeing a coliseum full of kids go crazy for a DJ in an electro-Mickey Mouse hat that at times did stuff that sounded Philip Glass-y. Speaks well for the young generation in my mind.

My son Aron, a sophomore in college, turned me on to deadmau5. Aron say him this past Friday in the Chi.

Numb - Christmeister/Bliss

I love the “Bliss” single.

Autolux - Transit Transit. It’s beautiful…

Lotsa Meshuggah lately, wish I had been privy to them earlier than a couple months ago.

I’m on two weeks paid leave - not going anywhere and the missus is away visiting friends for the week. So it’s been music music music for the past 48 hours…

Olivier Tremor Control - Music From The Unrealized Film Script
Daughters - Daughters
Mudhoney - Piece Of Cake
Dead C - Trapdoor Fucking Exit

The Dad Horse Experience

Bare-bones Appalachian gospel banjo music sung by a German. It comes off as a novelty at first, then you become obsessed.

Samhain - November Coming Fire

excellent album

At the risk of sounding controversial I’d say it’s the only good Samhain album. Welll…at least the most consistent.

I don’t think there’s a bad song on it - and think it’s just as worthy as the first Danzig album.

It’s also very expensive. Cost me a fortune to pay for a (near mint) vinyl copy. I’m almost frightened to play it.

Was listening to Initium last night - that one’s got some real stinkers on it, but the excellent cover art more than makes up for it.

Oh yeah! November coming fire is easily the best of the samhains. Final descent is probably the weakest… misery tomb… wtf?
How much did you pay for your vinyl if you don’t mind me asking is it a first pressing? When did you get it? Where did you get it?
Late,

I bought it off a local seller. He was asking $120 for it and I talked him down to $95. It’s in very good condition for a 23 year old album. As far as I know it’s an original pressing.

I used to own it on cassette many, many years ago.

not bad, you got it for a little under current average. I’ve seen first pressings go for $150-$300 on ebay I’ve got the first pressing of the CDs I wasn’t into vinyl when I started getting into danzig/samhain.

as far as first pressing you can check the numbers over at [url http://www.misfitscentral.com/samhain/discog.php]Misfits Central Samhain section

Misfits Central is great, its like the Prongs.org/ministry of Misfits actually I’d venture to say they are a little more thorough with their info than prongs… which is no slight at Afra… because Prongs is pretty damn thorough … you just gotta see misfits central

Samhain III November-Coming-Fire
1st: Caroline; Plan 9: PL9/07, PL9 CASS 07 (February 1986)
xxxxx black vinyl copies with pressing flaw which causes a skip during the first track.
xxxx cassette copies.
All LP and cassette copies include Plan 9 and Caroline logos and addresses.

Yeah Misfitscentral is pretty thorough with all its timelines, session notes, and pics of most of the different pressings/colored vinyl ect… it is a ton of information to wade through.

I highly recommend Eerie Von’s recent photo book Misery Obscura which looks like some kind of high school yearbook. Outside of the music itself it is probably the single coolest Misfits related thing ever made.

Wonder why Danzig isn’t keeping those Samhain albums in print somewhere. He owns the recordings, right?

Id love to know why danzig loathes the misfits so much. He doesn’t even wanna talk about them! Even before the newfits came along. Wonder why the animosity. Gonna start a misfits/samhain/danzig thread that way what are you listening can get back on track.

I think he loathes Jerry Only, not the Misfits.
He still plays Misfits songs, and he was performing with Doyle recently.
