Popol Vuh: ‘Tantric Songs - Hosianna Mantra’

Maybe the best comp. album ever. The word gorgeous does not do it justice.

Popol Vuh is amazing! Don’t have that comp though, I’ll have to see how much of it I don’t already have.

For a lengthy collection (basically two albums put together) it is perfect. Tantric Songs features alternate versions of Bruder des Schattens and Hosianna might be their best album.

The Tantric - Hosianna collection is an absolute must for anyone looking for a definitive Popol Vuh album. Came across this webpage recently: http://www.furious.com/perfect/populvuh.html It’s a helpful guide and realised there are some albums I’d never even heard of, let alone seen available.

After lusting after this rare performance for many years I’m really excited to finally have it. Sounds a lot more like Neu! than Kraftwerk but there are plenty of strange electronics blipping and blooping to make it rather akin to the first two Kraftwerk lps.

New Danzig!

Seems as though he’s finally exited the nu metal slums and rediscovered what made the first four albums work: a basic, but entertaining blend of classic hard rock riffing with detours into doom territory. His voice is back too. Crap mix but it doesn’t really distract from the quality of the songs.

Yeah, I was listening to that on Grooveshark earlier.
Aside from a few tracks here and there, I just haven’t been able to get into anything he’s done since 4.

thanks for the heads up NICK F. when did that come out? I kinda sensed him coming back to his roots starting with Iluciferi and more so with circle of snakes.

but i still pretty much share skarecrow’s sentiment, nothing since 4 has been all that great.

Danzig needs to stop trying to make his music sound so damned busy. 1-4 were great because it was guitar drums bass and vox and there wasn’t a bazillion fills and overdubs mixed in. he’s gotta get it in his head that “less is more” is what made him great.

It came out today. Must have leaked a couple weeks ago. I’m hoping the CD will have higher sound quality than the download. I agree about how the minimalism worked great for him on Danzig 1-4. What’s interesting is that interviews suggest that Rick Rubin held him back from fleshing out the songs more and that’s probably why he went all out after he fired the original band and signed with another label. This one is mostly all guitars, bass and drums with a few flourishes. Doesn’t have the same stark impact as hearing “Twist of Cain” for the first time, though. The drums sound really…off.

that would make sense about him going ballistic after he parted with def american… apparently there were royalty feuds too but i don’t know who was screwing who. Danzig screwing Rubin or rubin screwing Danzig. I don’t know how that part of the biz works. I know Biscuits left the band over royalties disagreements…

have you seen his book ? looks pretty cool although it’s sold out everywhere!!
