What are you listening to right now?

The new Megadeth. It’s okay so far.

For a career-ending album, it’s certainly underwhelming. Then again, who knows… Mustaine is one of those guys who says he’s going to retire, then shows up to play festivals and one-off dates when he needs ca$h. (Slayer, I’m looking in your direction.)

Currently enjoying the 5 degree weather on it’s way down to -10F this afternoon. Stupid cold for the next week or so. I know it’s January and in the Big Mitten it’s cold in January but… this is nuts. Fuck that polar vortex.

Anyway… I do have to venture out in a bit to get some paint. I’m painting the bathroom…

As I ease my way into the day…

Morphine - Cure for Pain

And the new Megadeth is Megameh… One of the many bands that haven’t put out anything decent in decades.

I was just listening to this the other day. Those guys can do no wrong. As for Megadeth, I actually liked the last few, but the new one is an outright turd.

The Sick the dying and the dead got a few spins from me and then went into the forgettable pile. Ozzy’ patient #9 on the other hand (Came out at the same time) still gets regular play, fantastic album.

The System has Failed is probably the last decent album megadeth put out.

Come to Miami,it’s 82 degrees here today…air conditioner kicking hard…

Cure For Pain is an excellent record…every see that movie Spanking the Monkey(fucked up flick)? They use a lot of the music from that album in the film…

Ha… I’ve been to Miami a couple times for business. It was July or August each time, really hot and humid. 82 sounds nice. I did like the area when I was there though. It’s a balmy 7 here right now. It’s not supposed to be over 20 in the next week with lows around 0. I can handle winter and don’t mind the snow though the darkness gets very tiresome. It’s just too cold to do anything outside currently. If the stupid polar vortex would stay over Canada, it wouldn’t be nearly this cold. Sigh…

Never seen Spanking. I’ll look into it one of these days.

Yeah, So Cal is a nice 66-75 lately cause a storm moved in but it was in the low to mid 80s before the storm… And yeah I saw Spanking the monkey years ago. VERY fucked up film… let’s make a movie about incest. just a suffocating smothering mental illness project of a film (right up there with “Happiness”). I’m pretty sure the kid in that flick played Uppam in Saving Private Ryan.

Listening to grateful dead - 1975 blues for allah in 5.1.

Happiness is a good comparison…and yeah it’s the same actor in Saving PR… Jeremy Davies…

I"m right across the lake from Canada .Only 3 outside and 6 inches of snow . Have B.T.O. - Not Fragile playing .

Dissection -Storm of the Lights Bane

Tremendous…

The mothers - Live at the fillmore east 1971.

My absolute favorite live album of all time, originally a 1 lp now expanded to 3 lp.

This was the worlds introduction of flo & eddie from the turtles fame.

3lp set includes the john lennon yoko ono set which only existed on boots.

If you get hooked on this then the next step is just another band from la which was released the same year as the fillmore set.

BILLY THE MOUNTAIN…

I could never get into Frank Zappa, and I TRIED man, I TRIED. I have a LOT of his albums, both live and studio, and without a visual element to the live stuff, I’m totally lost; without an understanding of the in-jokes on his studio albums, I’m also totally lost. I appreciate what the guy has done for modern music and absolutely love the footage of him on Capitol Hill defending free speech, but spend time listening to his music? Nah.

Well if you haven’t already try hot rats or guitar which if i remember right had no lyrics just insane guitar solos throughout.

Hot rats is considered his least zappa.

I’ve heard “Hot Rats,” it’s definitely the most memorable Zappa album I’ve heard. I liked some of the long instrumental stuff – I even like passages like that on the live albums – but the difficulties outweigh the pleasures for me.
