Turnstile is fucking amazing. Pop hardcore. Who’d a thunk?
I tried Sleep Token. God, how I tried. They’re just not for me.
Live! You Goddamned Son Of A Bitch! - Revolting Cocks (trax box version)
Chris’ vocal performance on In the Neck is intense.
Sleep - One of my all time favorite bands. I love Matt Pike’s tone and style.
Sleep - Sleep’s Holly Mountain.
Sleep - Iommic Life
Sleep - The Sciences
Sleep - Dopesmoker (Jerusalem version)
Sleep - Volume 1
And for good measure a bit of Om. Absolute killer drum and bass from Al Cisneros (Sleep bassist and vox). Put on Rays of the Sun. Play loudly. Your neighbors will be banging on your door to turn it up.
Om - Rays of the Sun/To the Shrinebuilder.
Om - Variations on a Theme.
Tangerine Dream…all the Pink Years albums
I have the original Dopesmoker on Teepee records. I think I also have the ‘newer’ version on cd somewhere. I’ll have a look later…
The Sciences was great. Massive slab of molten audio fuzz metal. Also have an original pressing of that on green vinyl.
Currently listening:
Opeth - Still Life
Coven - Witchcraft Destroys Minds and Reaps Souls
The Legendary Pink Dots - From Here You’ll Watch The World Go By
Acid Mothers Temple - Myth Of The Love Electrique
Looks like soundcloud is behind a sign in wall now.
Despite the Jerusalem (Music Cartel) version of Dopesmoker being somewhat shorter, I like the mix on it better. I do have both the Southern Lord and TeePee versions as well. You can’t go wrong on any of them.
I did read recently that Jason Roeder has been fired from the band for some unknown reason. Matt hinted that they were working on something, who knows what, and that everyone was getting along. Seems a bit odd.
And yeah, The Sciences was a fantastic album.
Good stuff. Tangerine Dream is the soundtrack to pretty much all of my working hours.
Yeah every couple of months I just indulge in various periods of TD…the gift that keeps on giving…never tire of them…
Swans - Birthing
Their Thief soundtrack was a real gem and was the perfect band to do the score for that epic movie
Thief is excellent. They were on fire with some of their scores. Near Dark, Legend and Firestarter are some of my favorites.
It’s funny you mention this…was just having a conversation yesterday about Thief …I turned my friend on to that film and he fell in love with the movie and the score…we were just talking about certain scenes and how effective the music was at enhancing those scenes…amazing that Michael Mann came right out of the gate with a masterpiece…love that fucking film…
Those are all great and of course the mighty Sorcerer also…not to mention lesser known beauties like 3 O’clock High,The Park is Mine and Miracle Mile…
I forgot that Michael Mann directed that one. I really like Manhunter too, that movie turned me on to Kitaro and Shriekback.
Interesting you mention that because the first time I heard Shriekback was on Miami Vice which of course was show run by Michael Mann…Shriekback was on the Vice soundtrack more than once in its 5 season for sure…
Manhunter is an incredibly overlooked film…so much style and atmosphere but also a lot of depth…
Swans - Love Of Life
The Sisters Of Mercy - First And Last And Always
