What are you listening to right now?

Watching a clip of John Lydon singing Schools Out on the show the Masked Singer as The Jester.

I can’t believe Lydon would EVER be on something like that. mindblowing.

We’re through the looking glass where it’s become more punk to be the total opposite of punk.

Anyway, I’m listening to:
Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds - B-Sides & Rarities (Part II)

Sweet-Give Us a Wink
Sweet-Desolation Blvd

FUCK YES!!! I love The Sweet. “Love Is Like Oxygen” is one of my all time top favorite songs. The main leading rhythm guitar riff and how the drums and bass lock in step with it… it’s so tasty. Incredible band.

I’ve been on a weird 80’s Rainbow run lately, and totally obsessed with “Since You’ve Been Gone” (Graham Bonnet on vocals) and “Street of Dreams” (Joe Lynn Turner). While continuing to ride that train tonight, I got on some of Bonnet’s solo stuff.

This song is so fucking badass!!! This entire lineup is insane. All top shelf mercenaries! Especially Cozy Powell on drums. Damn.

Little willy willy wont, go home…

Sweet were incredible…I liked all phases of the band…even the stuff after Brian Connolly left…it’s amazing the drastic shift they take from the first album which is pure bubble gum pop to Sweet Fanny F.A. that has straight up crunchy pop metal on it…even some thrashy speedy shit…and the harmonizing they do vocally is just top notch…

Although I liked Graham Bonnet less than Dio and Joe Lynn Turner I still dig the lone Rainbow album he did…I liked that his vocal style and his appearance went against the grain of the time and that he had the balls to keep it that way…I heard this solo album of his a while back but it’s been some time…I see Jon Lord in the video but it looks like he only played on one track on the album…has a bunch of other vets on it from Whitesnake and Status Quo etc…gonna play it later today

.

Graham Bonnet only recently even got on my radar. I think he’s so fucking cool. I love his image/style. He’s like a lounge singer that wants to fight everyone after the show. He’s just got so much swagger and his vocal style seems so unique to me. It’s almost like his voice is another drum set because he’s really punching out the words. He can go smooth too, but I like when his vocal performances are just an aggressive battering ram.

I might go deeper on the Turner shit next.
I never even gave ANY post-Dio Rainbow half a chance up until now.
I kind of thought of it like post-Danzig Misfits . . . no need to even acknowledge its existence. But I accidentally stumbled on some of it and was really into it.

Melvins - Houdini…

Love me some Houdini. Hooch is awesome. “I make a dog a ray day sender, bright like a penalty.” Do the Melvins have any original songs whose lyrics aren’t nonsense? Love it.

Check out “Five Legged Dog” if you haven’t already. You’d never think the Melvins would translate as an all acoustic band, but it works, and it works well.

^ YES!!! Psalm 9 is so rad! I’ll have to check out “The Skull” as I don’t recall it specifically. Trouble overall were very underrated. Some really cool stuff.

Trouble rule…they are considered one of the Big 4 of Doom Metal(along with Pentagram, St Vitus and Candlemass)…if you like Psalm 9 you will surely like The Skull(and the following one called Run to the Light, their final album on Metal Blade)…those first 3 are just straight up Doom classics…their sound changed a bit after that as they added more bluesy and psychedelic elements…that’s when Rick Rubin signed them to a 2 album deal with Def American…only to be dropped after the 2nd…a great overlooked metal band…was really sad that Eric Wagner died from covid this year…

Fuck. I was thinking Wagner had passed but had forgotten it was that recently and from Covid. I love Pentagram and a lot of Candlemass. St. Vitus I only know by name. I typically roll my eyes when I hear something is “doom metal” but that’s only because it had become such a lame cliche in recent years. Still love the OG shit. Just can’t really bother standing up when another band called Opium Druids comes out with yet another album of songs about taking bong rips off Satan’s buttcrack or whatever the fuck those goofy evil burnouts are into. Get back in your Spiccoli-painted Dungeons and Dragons Wizard van and fuck off.

Hahaha Opium Druids!! …classic …I know what you mean and most genre tags bum me out but it’s an easy and lazy way of at least letting ppl know what kind of shit you are talking about…St Vitus are great and if you dig Trouble you would certainly dig St Vitus…they go hand in hand
