What are you listening to right now?

Listening to my fish tank bubbling like a giant bong.

John Grant - Pale Green Ghosts

It’s a couple years old, but I have been stuck on this record a lot lately. It is one of those records where nothing is perfect but it all comes together perfectly. I’ve pimped this before I think, but if you are looking for downer edm/dark synthpop, this is the ticket. This record makes me feel weird because no way should something this SAD make me feel this GOOD. I wish I had written this shit. I really think a lot of you might dig it. Looking at Akbar in particular.

I’ll check it out when I get the chance…maybe after the happy period of Christmas though haha

I checked this out…it’s alright… It did make me depressed though. For both the intended and unintended reasons.

I think his vocals are bad though and the mix is just so cluttered with crap…

EDIT it’s picked up after a few tracks. Not bad.

I don’t always mind bad vocals. I like Chuck Mosley, ya know? If you’re expressive and can make it fit, do it, more power to you. He’s rough, for sure, but that’s kind of the point on this one I think. For me, it’s both sublime and uncomfortable at the same time. I wouldn’t change a thing. I’ve listened to his other records too, I approve of what he’s doing in general, but Body is the only one where I think he really nailed it.

Yeah after more listens it’s growing. I think I just didn’t like the first two tracks as much.

I know the out of tune reverbed vocals are part of the genre , it does kind of work in terms of emotional honesty. At times it just feels silly to me though and I can’t take him seriously.

I like the bonus tracks a lot, can’t imagine why they didn’t make the cut and some that did, did.

Either way this grabbed me for repeated listens. The synth sounds are pretty good, at least for now…

Andy Stott rules. Luxury Problems is awesome…the actual tune Luxury Problems is incredible.

Couldn’t agree more.

Hehehe…I saw these guys a few times in Sydney in the early 90s when I had just become totally gay for Ministry…they were always hilarious and mad as a cut snake.
