Mumford & Sons - Babel

Mrs. Smrf bought Mumford & Sons new album and there is a cover of Simon & Garfunkel’s “The Boxer” towards the end of the disc. I first heard the song today and I thought “I think that’s S&G’s song…” I start paying attention to the lyrics and sure enough. I like their cover alright but I start thinking I haven’t heard the original in years and I really remember liking it a lot so I dial up “The Boxer” on the iPod from S&G and and now I’m stuck on this song again. The power and atmosphere is overwhelming and I am immediately embarrassed for Mumford’s cover. the cover may as well be bad karaoke as far I’m concerned. The big beautiful angry drum hit ain’t there. The song’s 2 minutes shorter there’s no power no atmosphere no anger no boxer getting the shit beat outta him by the music.
So the short answer is I’ve been listening to Simon & Garfunkel’s The Boxer All fuckin day!

Downloaded Special Affect earlier. Wish I would’ve asked Groovie Mann more about that time. Guess I’ll have to wait til his book comes out. If he ever finishes it.
In honour of all this week’s threads about crappy bands, my co-workers and I are currently going through a marathon of 90’s shite. The first person that tells someone to ‘turn that crap off’ loses.
Blink 182
Limp Bizkit
Alanis Morrissette
Avril Lavigne
Good Charlotte
etc…
It’s dreadful, but amusing.
Isn’t Good Charlotte more of a '00s band?

The Funkel rule…Mumford & Sons on the other hand is truly fucking horrible stuff. The UK has been getting punished with their hideous brand of Folk for the last 3 or 4yrs.
Aural Blasphemy - Catharsis (Random 49 cent bargain bin find. Awesome!)
J Dilla - Donuts
Vanilla - Soft Focus
The Corrugation - Between Hope and Fear (This one’s DEADLY, by the way. LISTENLISTENLISTEN)
The new Flying Lotus album is pretty impressive. It does however take a few spins.
Funkadelic-Uncle Jam Wants You
Hideo Yamaki-Shadow Run
Blowfly-Blowfly’s Punk Rock Party
Yohimbe Brothers-The Tao of Yo
Material-Hallucination Engine
