I deleted my other post because I changed my mind on this. I actually loathe Tucker Carlson and to find out this manufactured outrage response originated from him and is some bandwagon I was unknowingly jumping on before further examining made me realize I was on the wrong side on this one.
I still think the Seuss estate is just doing this for self-preservation. But I can see how this is the right move for children’s books since literally like 2% of he characters in the books are non-white and the ones that are are caricatures and not fully developed people. I can see how that would be something that would make a young child who is not white feel kind of weird and alienated and embarrassed and that’s not cool to me or worth defending.
LoL i never liked pepe le pew. Not because he was rapey but just because his schtick was tired and boring. Same with daffy duck. Angry about everything. Come to think of it i dont like a whole lot if loony toons. I think maybe, bugs bunny, tweety sylvester and foghorn leghorn are about it. That being said, though, i don’t see any reason to take them off the air… unless they aren’t getting viewers for a tv station.
Nothing wrong with that, sir. I change my mind on a lot of shit after learning more.
I know it’s a sticking point with me for many (or just one made to look like many) but if it comes out of Fox, I just assume it’s a lie. I’m sometimes surprised to find out they’ve reported some truth. Also, as a general rule whatever the GOP is accusing others of, they are usually the biggest purveyors of.
Take so-called cancel culture. The GOP are SHOCKED, just shocked and outraged over the cancelling of things and people with different views. But just look what they did to Colin Kaepernick’s career. Weren’t these same GOPers looking to cancel NASCAR over the confederate flag? How about what they did to the Dixie Chicks? How About freedom fries? How about trying to cancel Target? JC Penny? They’re currently trying to cancel elections (See Arizona’s new state bill saying they can over turn the popular vote if they want) WTF? That’s just the shit I can remember off of the top of my head. I’m sure if I were to google I’d find tons more.
GOPers’ big thing the last couple years has been the “child fuckers who worship satan.” I’m sure that comes from a place of deflection. It won’t shock me a bit to find out the republicans with the loudest bullhorns for saving the children from pedos are the ones fucking them. The same way the Anti Gay politicians and clergy keep getting caught fucking men.
Another big thing with the GOP is the rigged election… Accuse your opponent of the shit you’re doing to deflect suspicion. It’s child like, really. Now Boebart (I think it was) is complaining about the DEMS all being about conspiracy theories when she got elected on the stupid Q conspiracy, and the rest of her party believes it too and the ones that don’t aren’t getting “cancelled.” It’s fucking stupid, and obvious as fuck.
Well, there’s been a problem with seuss for a while, I guess. This isn’t new. Read Across America dropped him a while ago as their mascot because of the racism in a few of the books. Like I said, the estate stopped publishing those 6 books on their own partly because no one was buying them and they are pretty racist… So, why publish it if no one’s buying it and save a little face while they’re at it.
I don’t really think there was even an uproar, to be honest. Sure, there were a few lazy outrage preachers and even at least one politician (Kristi Noem - South Dakota) that jumped on it, knowing it was high-visibility and would get them in the press, but I doubt any normal person of any political persuasion gives a flying fuck.
Unlike many artists before him, though, LIL NAS X is obviously incredibly smart and calculating and is playing ALL of this predictable nonsense for what it’s worth, letting him play both hero and villain all the way to the bank. He dropped the shoes in tandem with his new video which is dialed-in formulaic chart music that utilizes some edgy visuals (grinding his booty on Satan’s crotch and then snapping his neck to take his horns and become the new devil). This is all really silly. I haven’t seen the usual “conservative” voices (Chowder, Knowles, Shapiro, etc.) chime in, and I kinda doubt they will just because it’s really dumb and no higher than attacking a cartoon or crying about Dungeons and Dragons in 2021.
The song was forgettable and dumb. Even the video was mostly forgettable and dumb, except that now EVERYONE (online, at least) is suddenly talking about it. But it’s just shadows screaming at shadows. All my dopey friends are suddenly posting about how “conservatives are in an uproar over this” . . . but there’s no actual sentiment against Lil Nas X anymore than there was the massive outrage against J-Lo and Shakira dancing at the Superbowl last year.
In 2021 you can find someone claiming to be triggered by or taking action against anything and everything. Anyone with Google knows how to find what they need to “prove” anything. But just because SOMEONE does or says something does not mean that a bunch of people are.
I guess that’s what some of us may find a bit disturbing over the so-called “cancel culture” movement. All too often, it’s not even someone stepping down or getting fired because of actual legit pressure and outrage. It’s just “perceived” pressure and outrage.
That said, I give mad props to this Lil Nas X fucker because he’s smart enough to play them all and make himself huge in the process.
It’s like anyone who gets criticised is now complaining about being “cancelled”. Dr. Seuss’s estate, I mean who cares. Honestly, if you wanted to buy a Dr. Seuss book (do people still buy books?), you’d buy a first edition anyway, right? I would. It’s not like the government has made the book illegal. It will be a collector’s item now. There’ll be second-hand book dealers marking up the price as we speak. It’s like I used to have one of those Jolly Ni**er Money boxes. They’re worth hundreds. I sold it, and I don’t think the buyer was racist or political, I think it’s just a curiosity like something from P. T. Barnum. I’m glad I’m not the only person who finds it difficult to sympathise with either side of the culture war. Talking heads on the news firing us up 24/7 with fresh outrages they want us to be outraged about too, it’s so unhealthy. They want us to be outraged so we keep watching. Go outside a look at a bird. QAnon is so not a new phenomenon, it’s just a new name for re-hashing Satanic Ritual Abuse conspiracies dating back to the '80s. Go and read Michelle Remembers from 1980, it’s the same shit. Who even is Lil Nas X. That’s rhetorical by the way, I don’t want to know.
