The Worst Albums in Your Collection...

Dave Wakeling - No Warning
I’m a big English Beat fan, but any album with a song from the She’s Having A Baby soundtrack is gonna be bad.

Marty Willson-Piper - Art Attack
The Church are excellent, but this album is pretty bland. Not sure what I expected to hear when buying this one. Too artsy-fartsy.

Sting - Demolition Man CDS
I bought this after hearing a killer live version of “King Of Pain” (it was a b-side). Now I realize I own a CD with Wesley Snipes and Sly Stallone on the cover.

Killing Joke - Outside The Gate
Ahem.

1002

A couple of KC and the Sunshine Band records; frankly, I like KC and the Sunshine Band.

Did you ever hear Shriekback’s unfortunate cover of “Get Down Tonight”, from '88? Download and give it a listen some time, if you need a good laugh.

That reminds me, add Shriekback’s Go Bang! to my list. There’s maybe one good song on it, but the rest is Hall Of Shame material. Sad, being that I’m a huge Shriekback fan.

1002

the wisdom of harry

what? exactly!!!

Mastodon - Leviathan (hype?)
Front 242 - Front By Front (and don’t give me any lippy about this piece of crap being a ‘classic’. it sucks. it is laughable hogwash.)
Psychic TV - Infinite Beat (nobody’s perfect Genesis)
Faith No More - King For A Day, Fool For A Lifetime (Take This Bottle? Star AD?? Mike Patton? Genius?)
Krokodil - An Invisible World Revealed (krautrock or kraprock?)
Revco - Beers, Steers And Queers (don’t wanna start a war, but this is one of the least inspired ‘fun’ albums ever)
Black Sabbath - Paranoid (lyrically I find this SO hard to swallow. much better was to come. thank god)
Morrissey - Maladjusted (oh Morrissey, what happened?)

as a general rule, I try before I buy…so I don’t really have too many stains on my proverbial bedsheets.

Psychic TV - Infinite Beat (nobody’s perfect Genesis)

Really? I love this one and have always wondered why we haven’t heard more from Fred Gianelli.

Personally the most embarassing are the (few) Nine Inch Nails ones I have. In my defence, I was 12 and I didn’t know any better. Oh, and I just remembered I have some Oasis and Ace of Base tapes from when I was 7. I’m glad to also be past that.

In terms of the genuinely crappy ones, I’d say the two worst offenders have to be Happy Mondays’ Yes Please! and Morrissey’s Kill Uncle. They’re both absolutely dreadful, and I’m surprised they weren’t just scrapped before release.

Faith No More - King For A Day, Fool For A Lifetime (Take This Bottle? Star AD?? Mike Patton? Genius?)[/quote]

I would agree, but Ricochet, Gentle Art of Making Enemies, What a Day, Get Out, etc, make up for that. Plus, his vocals on the tracks you mentioned aren’t bad. I also attribute this to the beginning of end of the band as there was a lot of in-fighting around this period. Angel Dust on the other hand…I’m still amazed.

Black Sabbath - Paranoid (lyrically I find this SO hard to swallow. much better was to come. thank god)

Agreed. Though, for that time, for something musically to come out like Paranoid, was kinda unheard of. But yeah, they sure made up for it.

Many on this board are probably too young to remember Fine Young Cannibals, but the Raw and the Cooked was actually the first CD I ever purchased. As I recall, it cost around $17 at the time. Other embarassing purchases included Journey and Milli Vanilli. I was a very confused young man…

That’s okay - I have nin’s Pretty Hate Machine. Ugh.

Though his cover of “Get Down Make Love” was very decent (a cover of a Queen track) for that time period.

You guys are haters. You gotta love Manson man! He’s like the Bon Jovi of industrial metal!!!

No seriously I think behind all the bullshit and hype and lyrics there is some damn good music on these releases. Ditto NIN…

although PHM should be short for Prepubescent Homosexual Mallgoth.

But can you really hate on “Sin”? if Skinny Puppy did that song, albeit with better lyrics you know you’d be drooling.
Does Manson’s “I Put A Spell On You” suck? Worse than the songs on HOTM? I think not.

Worst CDs I Own:

Rob Zombie - The Sinister Urge (no comment)

Throbbing Gristle - Grief (TERRIBLE TERRIBLE my God what the fuck is this bullshit?!?!)

Pigface - Easy Listening (I was just discovering the genre when i picked up this stinker) and an ‘Industrial Tribute to Ministry CD’ by the same wanksters at Invisible Records

Anything by: Das Ich, Wumpscutt, Die Form, Front Line Assembly (free promos…bleh so generic)

And the worst of all…

Filter - Title of Record (it was only 3 bucks used!!!..alright I know, I know)

Oh wait, I forgot Ministry - Houses of the Mole

metallica load reload crap.

No seriously I think behind all the bullshit and hype and lyrics there is some damn good music on these releases. Ditto NIN…

As do I. I think With Teeth is exceptional. I didn’t mind the music of Manson on some of his releases (though this wasn’t all his work) but the whole “let me piss on the crowd and write a book about it” kinda killed it for me. Not to mention, the whole “I hate the idea of organized religion, so I will join the Church of Satan” - huh?!

Where is he now anyhow? Haven’t heard anything from him in a while…

although PHM should be short for Prepubescent Homosexual Mallgoth.

haha! I don’t know why I didn’t really like that reason. Well, in pre-high school, when it came out, all the chicks really dug it. I wasn’t too impressed to be honest and it kinda stuck in my head since then, that I didn’t. I mean, to me, it’s a “pre-high school” album, what with the lyrics. I was also into heavier electro and rock back then so that was probably a lot to do with it. I did find it funny when he released “Broken”, and the chicks then started to hate nin but the guys flocked to it.

But can you really hate on “Sin”? if Skinny Puppy did that song, albeit with better lyrics you know you’d be drooling.

Well, that’s just it isn’t it? Lyrics. It would have done a difference I feel. I mean:

“I gave you my purity.
My purity you stole.
Did you think I wouldn’t recognize this compromise.
Am I just too stupid to realize.”

cough

Does Manson’s “I Put A Spell On You” suck? Worse than the songs on HOTM? I think not.

I don’t think I heard that but is it a cover? The track sounds like a familiar old track… If it is, there you go. It wasn’t his work. Having said that, his cover of “Rock’n’Roll Nigger” was really good, I thought.

Anything by: Das Ich, Wumpscutt, Die Form, Front Line Assembly (free promos…bleh so generic)

Well, Wumpscut. They sound now like he did in the early days and I felt like he had a few good tracks. Few as in less than 5-7. Which is saying something because he’s released like 10 albums or something. Just my opinion though. Das Ich and Wumpscut sing in German - I prefer to hear that in the danceclubs rather than at home, if I was going to hear it at all.

Front 242 - Front By Front (and don’t give me any lippy about this piece of crap being a ‘classic’. it sucks. it is laughable hogwash.)

Eh? This is one of my favourite albums by far, I first bought Tyranny For You, and to be honest I wasn’t really impressed, I only really got into Front 242 once I heard Front by Front. What about it don’t you like?

“haha! I don’t know why I didn’t really like that reason. Well, in pre-high school, when it came out, all the chicks really dug it. As a general rule, if chicks flock to something youre guaranteed its shite. Sad really

nine inch nails - things falling apart
it blows. i liked the fragile very much, but this is just crap.

massive attack - 100th window - the ‘leader’ of ma sux ballz at vocals, plus this is not as dirty sounding as mezzanine. too bad.

fear factory - obsolete and digimortal
well, obsolete is kinda so-so, a direct clone of demanufacture, ff’s best release. digimortal sucks ass though.

marilyn manson - holy wood
post-acs manson is even more boring.

david bowie - low
some say it’s great, well, i don’t. i like ziggy better.

rhcp - blood sugar sex magic
metallica - s&m
foo fighters - colour and the shape

i don’t remember how i even got these.

david bowie - low
some say it’s great, well, i don’t. i like ziggy better.

Really? That’s my favorite Bowie album. I say it’s great, so there!

I’m also a fan of 242’s Front By Front, but I don’t think it’s an EBM ‘classic’, as some critics and fans have said. “Headhunter” is definitely one of their top tracks, and I like “Until Death” and “Circling Overland”, but Official Version is a much more solid effort…probably my favorite 242 LP. The Wax Trax CD Backcatalogue is one of the best band compilations ever.

As do I. I think With Teeth is exceptional.

I just don’t get it. My g/f freaking loves this album, but I think it’s dry-sounding, boring, and mostly forgettable. “The Hand That Feeds” has got to be NIN’s most annoying single yet (doesn’t help that it gets way too much airplay). I like almost all NIN (yes, PHM too), but this one just isn’t sticking. It’s a shame he can’t re-capture the energy heard on songs like “Last”, “March Of The Pigs”, or “Happiness In Slavery”. I’m not saying he should re-live the past, but NIN is better when the music is harder.

1002

mortiis - the grudge
what a piece of shit. his older cold meat era stuff was great and i even liked the smell of rain but this worthless waste of plastic was particularly bad.

rhcp - blood sugar sex magic

shame on you. this is one of the greatest guitar albums of all time.

I’m not embarassed by a single album that I own, and I have many of the same ones you people mention. It doesn’t mean I like any of them, I’m just not embarassed to own them.
Actually, I have a record of Nazi SS marches. I’m kind of embarassed that I actually purchased that.

Killing Joke - Outside The Gate
Ahem.

1002

Hot dog! We have a weiner! What a terrible album that I fear many on this board have been fooled into giving a chance.

Let me add one more to the mix…

Prong - Scorpio Rising

I had high hopes for this album, but blech. Washed up is a word I don’t use too often but it was so mediocre of a band that used to bring passion and energy out of me. Thankfully we still have Cleansing and Beg to Differ. Even the new Helmet was more entertaining.

shame on you. this is one of the greatest guitar albums of all time.

yeah so. that just means that i like all other albums from my collection better than those i listed, hehe. but frankly i got tired of bssm really quickly.
