It always boggles my mind when people take an extreme news case and then use it as an example of what WOULD, COULD, or DOES happen every time such a scenario plays out.
No, the reason this was a news story to begin with is because it was different, unique, shocking, and unexpected. Your average Joe does not rush to tackle the guy with the gun. That is what made those two dudes AWESOME. They defied the norm (and probably saved lives in the process). Could they have done it more effectively and faster if THEY had guns themselves? Yeah, maybe. Who knows? I don’t care. It’s not important and that’s not the point of the story.
