The only songs I can listen to on HOM anymore...

Every Ministry release has it’s charm. I like them all & sure some stick out more than others. I think the release you can listen to over and over is a good start. Mind being one of them

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion.
But if it’s not the same as mine, you are stupid.

Personally, I prefer when Al concentrate himself on the music, not politics. Listening to DSOTS I used to sink in deppression ( really )without any drugs and for me that defines the power of Ministry, the thrills of fear when listening. There are songs that really ripping tracks in my mind. I’m addicted.[pirate]

Politics can get sticky…I like when Al was vague (connect the dots quote is a good example)…not in your face. Let’s hope this will be the last release about full throttle politics. But then again I’m music driven not lyrics [sly]

[reply]Il put it this way, anyone who likes Houses can hardly be called a discerning Ministry fan.

Another figure of speech? Because, seriously, that is a ridiculous notion…but, hey, you’re entitled to your opinion.

I cannot understand how someone who loved them pre 2004 could still love them now.

Well, I can say it’s possible. I listen to everything from Cold Life to Bloodlines. Yeah, Ministry’s laid the occasional egg, but I haven’t stopped liking them because of it. Hell, I consider myself a “true” Ministry fan, AND I like Houses. It can be done. Not to be Mr. Obvious, but it just comes down to different tastes, señor.

Fair enough, its just Im passionate about my opinion

[reply]but again i am one person holding the opinion of more than one.

Does your opinion feel more validated in your eyes simply because you share the opinion of one or two other malcontents? If your feet are stuck in a bucket of cement under the confines of what is just your opinion, why would you need to justify your opinion by saying that others feel the same way? Do you have self esteem or self doubt issues as well?

Ministry has an ever evolving catalogue. There is no such thing as a “true” Ministry fan. Some people like some albums, others don’t. Just because someone enjoys HOTM, as I do, does that mean they can no longer be a “true” Ministry fan under the confines of your rather limited POV?

I personally think DSOTS is the worst album I own, but I wouldn’t demean anyone that likes that album. To each his own.[/reply]

I said that my opinion is of more than one simply to show that its not my opinion alone as others feel it aswell. I frankly couldnt care if no one else held the same opinion as me, no one is going to change what i feel. By saying there is more than myself of the same conviction it gives it more substance than say one person saying it, it makes it more believable etc… Theres more than one or two of us anyway. If I have offended you or anyone else by being too righteous, I apolgize it was not my intention to offend Ministry fans, its just I personally cannot understand how people who liked Ministry in their glory days could like their recent stuff.

Same old song…

The people who regret Paul today are the same who said before that Stolen was Ministry’s worst song and Dark Side Ministry’s worst album…

I discovered Ministry in 88 with Stigmata and bought almost every release since. Ministry has always been something special in my life (and I’m not 20 since a very, very long time, believe me). I started to post from time to time on this board (actually, the one before the one before this one) since 7 or 8 years, I don’t remember. I don’t know if I’m a true fan or not, and I don’t care actually, but… I like a whole lot the last album!

And it’s not because 2/3 songs on it are political that this makes it a political album (ok, maybe it is, in relation to the artwork…). And maybe people can’t take that album without thinking at the numerous comments Al did about politics around the time of it’s release?..

Anyway, this is always the same useless kind of blahblah “this thing is shit, how can people like it?..”. Since Filth Pig people are complaining (“It was better before…”). So why don’t just listen to these old wonderful releases then, and leave other ones listen to what they want?

I don’t miss Paul in the slightest.

well said.

No apology necessary. I’m not offended, but I had to reply because I felt the “less discerning” comment was misguided. Otherwise, Ministry’s music just does it for me, going back to the beginning of their career. Is it possible that the bar was set so high by Twitch, Land, & Mind, that everything afterwards has not met expectations and therefore been labelled a disappointment? For me, no Ministry album is perfect, but they always seem to deliver - at the VERY least - one terrific song on every album. I’m still a big fan because I still find plenty to like. Houses was the most pleasing Ministry album I’d heard in many years. Aside from the N.W.O./TV song sequels, I don’t hear the re-hash that many others hear on this album. Even if it is all re-hash, and I’m just oblivious, well, so what? It’s still a great album to me.

Why not, I’ll throw my two cents into the cup filled with pennies.

Ministry is, was and always will be the child of Al J. Paul leaves, Ministry still exhists. Al leaves, Ministry does not exhist. Simple as that and thats my final word on that subject. I’m not undercutting anyone’s worth or feeding egos.

I don’t think Al is a caveman dragging knuckles and walking around with a club (although I would probably respect him more if he took up the look.) The last album, as I heard it, was less Psalm 69 and more Mind. So he tried to get sales up by coining the Psalm 70 and throwing a track on a NOFX compilation and a popular video game. Can you fault the man? The stuff Al is putting out is miles beyond the boring lineup of grey haired guys in goggles on Nothing Records, its actually something I can listen to while driving, not something to soundtrack my time spent morphined discussing the next Pigface club remix cd. If World or WKYJ is derrivitive Psalm 69 re-hashes to you, pull the pure pre-formed bias in the shape of cotton from your ears and give both albums a recent listen. Both are good, quality releases. Also… Warp City fuckin’ rules…

One last thing, on the subject of the new release, be thankful it isn’t on the low level of Pigface remix albums. Hell, I just bought the Pitchfork & Lost Needles from Clutch, the majority of material I already own. But its been remastered and with two original songs and demos (albeit demos I already have for the most part). I regard the album on the same page. I’m always down for a new Ministry song, hell, if I could tell you how many versions I have of Ministry songs I dont even like (i/e Every Day is Halloween) just for the sake of hearing something different. I’m just waiting for the studio Eyes of Christ… someday.

The people who regret Paul today are the same who said before that Stolen was Ministry’s worst song and Dark Side Ministry’s worst album…

They’re also the same people who answer the singles ads in Bi-Monthly Magazine.

Sounds like someone needs a new hobby!

Yep, a new hobby would suit you just fine.

Makes what a political album? What the hell are you babbling about, fanboy? State yr intentions or clear out.

So why don’t just listen to these old wonderful releases then, and leave other ones listen to what they want?

I’ve been meaning to do this real soon. Just a question of when

I think I’m going to cry.

I’m just waiting for the studio Eyes of Christ… someday.

“Apathy” is probably as close as you’ll get to that, unfortunately.

1002

damn, Eyes of Christ is one of my favorite Ministry songs actually. It’s a combination of Apathy and Nursing Home (those sax sounds ended up in Nursing Home after all those years… ) and it’s own unique song, and definitly was one of the most aggressive songs he’d done up to that point, a perfect prelude to the LORAH album…
damn, I’m going to listen to that song right now!

[reply][reply]The music they made in the late 80s and in the 90s was so powerful because it was precisely not the stuff they are at now. I cannot understand how someone who loved them pre 2004 could still love them now.

If you saw MINISTRY live in 2004, I doubt anyone could question how “powerful” their LIVE performance was.

When people say that Al is an old fart just because he used to do junk and have a lot of older underground fame does undeserved justice to his capabilites LIVE, and not just when he is tied down in a studio. How many twenty-somethings can consistenly put on a good show performance, or get it up after all the shit that Al has been through?

I saw Ministry on the Sphinctour and last year, and last years show was mindblowing compared to 96.
I’d say Al’s getting better with age.
