for some stupid reason, i can call em.
i can hear the good the bad and the ugly, and feel good about my tour of duty.
once again, i am not a musician. but i can call a good band or a crap band. it’s my ear.
(i’m wiping the brow–a slight james brown move)
the best albums i’ve heard in the past ten are minimal.
eno always informs. albums are a fun bunch which mostly dont hit the mark.
as much as some here hate to hear it, there are few who can accomplish an albums worth of music.
try it.
and head your way to singles that sell.
i shall remain, especiale ed.
Um…yeah.
Anyway, I can remember when I was 16 years old and thought that no musician would ever achieve to express themselves more perfectly than this:
I am surprised how stark the production on DANZIG I sounds to me now twenty years later. As I was a Misfits and Samhain fan before Danzig the band came around it is my overall least favorite of his projects, and yet this album is probably the best he has ever done. Whatever you may think about Glenn as a person you cannot deny the impact of this album.
Chuck Biscuits is a superb drummer he’s been in so many bands, and its a shame that he has all but given up music.

Really? Why? Is he focusing on his art more? I know he was in circle jerks but what else besides danzig was he in?
BTW for my money it doesn’t get any better than Danzig II followed closely by Danzig III. With Danzig IV a distant third.

Chuck pretty much dropped out of the music business after leaving Social Distortion in 1999. He was a drummer for both DOA and Subhumans two of Canada’s premier early punk bands. He was briefly drummer for Black Flag, Fear, The Red Hot Chili Peppers, the Weirdos and a lot of others. His brother ‘Dimwit’ passing away in 1994 from a drug overdose may have had something to do with him ultimately leaving the business, but who knows. Like you pointed out he is also a pretty accomplished artist.
I agree with you on Danzig II, it just happens to have my favorite Danzig songs on it Snakes of Christ, Her Black Wings, and Blood And Tears.

That was Rick Rubin’s work - notice that the production becomes more involved as Rubin becomes less so, until Danzig’s no longer on American and he’s got a White Zombie level of production.
That Danzig album was a fave during my high school years. The production is lean, I agree, but it probably stands up better over time than any of the others. Lucifuge was a good one but had a few too many throwaway ‘blues’ numbers and How The Gods Kill had too few standout tracks (although it has hands down the greatest cover artwork of any album Danzig has been associated with).
I heard a rumour that, after Danzig IV, he was going to start anew and hire Corrosion Of Conformity as his backing band. Does anyone know if this is true??

I hadn’t heard that one, but since the whole idea that Rick Rubin had in the beginning was for Glenn to have a different band each time except for maybe Eerie this could have been true. We all know it didn’t quite work out that way, but I’m glad the classic line up lasted as long as it did. I do know he asked Justin Broadrick to join once upon a time.

Oh man, that’s what sells me on that album. I love how bluesy and moody that album is!

Well, I’ll agree there are very few stand out tracks, with the title track being one of the best Danzig songs ever (IMO). The other standouts are Sistinas, Dirty Black Summer, Left Hand Black and Heart of The Devil. (again IMO)
As far as the album art, you never really can go wrong with an H.R. Giger Portrait! The Beasly art on Thrall was not bad either, but you’re right, the HTGK cover is by far and away the coolest!

Well, I know the line up changed completely on Danzig V, he dropped everybody including long time friend and bassist Eerie Von. But if COC is made up of Josh Lazie, Mark Chaussee, Joey Castillo then the answer to your question is yes.

Hell yes on Ritual. That’s definitely on my list. I’d go:
Ritual de lo Habitual - Jane’s Addiction
OK Computer - Radiohead
Good God’s Urge - Porno For Pyros
Dark Side of the Moon - Pink Floyd
Future Perfect - Autolux
Fantastic Planet - Failure
Aenima - Tool
Fear of a Blank Planet - Porcupine Tree
Violator/Ultra/Exciter - Depeche Mode
Filth Pig - Ministry
Loveless - My Bloody Valentine
Sister - Sonic Youth
Let Love In - Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds
Ende Neu/Silence is Sexy/Alles Wieder Offen - Neubauten
Blackaciddevil was the first Danzig album I listened to and is still one of my favorites. I’m guessing I’m alone in this…
a far as my end… … … YES, you are alone!!! The ONLY redeeming song on that album is Come To Silver! but meh to each his own. If you really dig that album you probably won’t dig the first 4 albums.

My old band had a song called Blackacidevelknievel if that tells you anything about what I thought of that album. Its maybe not as embarrassing as Billy Idol’s Cyberpunk album, but I’m not entirely sure.
I met Chuck Biscuits once, about two or three years after he had left Danzig. He’s a really funny and friendly guy. Big Led Zeppelin fan too! Anyway, apparently Danzig detests drug abuse and couldn’t handle Chuck having a ‘problem’ so he gave him an ultimatum and Chuck gave him the finger.
From the sounds of things, Glenn isn’t a very easy person to work for/with. He cannot stand to be in anyone else’s shadow and is dubious at best when payday finally comes around. Often takes credit for material that other band members have written.
Sounds a bit like…what’s his name now…y’know…that guy with the funny hat and glasses…

Gotta give Danzig a +1 on that. Which is kinda funny 'cause he’s all into the devil and you can ask any Christian; drugs are completely the tools of the devil! [:)]
BTW what was chuck hooked on? has he kicked it?
