Ill be at the Chicago, Milwaukee, and Orlando stops.
Void handles the music creation and live gig parts; we handle the label part together (optimization, merchandising, PR, online store, distribution (e and mechanical)); and I handle most of the publishing (royalties calculations and payments, set lists, montization, optimization) with his inputs from the music creation and live gig portions.
By printing the merch in small batches in my kitchen, it has allowed high flexibility in sizing (S-5XL), ability to always have new designs for existing fans, and significant overhead cost reduction.
Its actually pretty similar to several aspects of my day job and Project Management: there is a critical path to meet the deadline and reduce costs.
It is cool that you both have found an arrangement that works for you. I bet you are having fun with it Mooney.
Its been pretty eye-opening going from being a super fan of music in general to working on the other side. There is a lot that goes into each of the three aspects and there are a lot of sharks that are more than willing to exploit naive musicians that they can profit off the backs of, rather its a label, manager, promoter, other band member, etc. Empty promises.
Fans romanticize this stuff, but that is definitely not reality.
Passion, determination, desire, perseverance, and commitment are just a few words that come to mind. The days of lavish decadence are over.

Yeah I’d say those days are over at least in the rock genre for non legacy artists.
It’s still going in pop. hip hop and top 40 type styles with newer artists, but if you fuck up the fall from grace is pretty instantaneous.
Gone are the days of partying like Jim Morrison and getting away with it…
But in general yeah this industry is REALLY hurting we’ll tell you that from the inside view.
I’m just grateful to have the help I have and to have made things happen through perseverance and determination.
Debut song/video and formal Spring announcement this week!
The 2/12 show in St. Louis has moved from FUBAR to the Way Out Club. If any of you can make it, I will be the bartender (and probably the sound guy too) that evening.
