Static X Interview

Now that I think about it, Skinny Puppy’s third full-length (I think…), “Cleanse, Fold, and Manipulate” wasn’t terribly great either.

Hmm, I’d have to disagree with you there. First Aid, Addiction, Second Tooth, Tear or Beat, Deep Down Trauma Hounds, Anger…classic Puppy album to me.

I’ll give you that. Second Tooth is one of my favorite SP tracks, Tear or Beat’s pretty nice, and Anger is aight… but the rest of the album doesn’t really flow with me, and it doen’t help that there are better versions of Addiction and Deep Down Trauma Hounds on “MTPI” (which are two really great tracks; had they not been on “MTPI,” “CF&M” would resonate with me a lot more).
Dunno, man.
I’ve listened to a lot of SP, and I either REALLY love it (“Bites,” “MTPI,” “TGWOTR”), or with the exception of one or two tracks, I can’t dig it (“Vivisect IV,” “Too Dark Park,” “Mythmaker”).
So yeah.

Ten bucks says Pighammer has gay nu-metal chug riffs.

I’ll pass on that bet thanks.

This album is goint to be the coolest thing since the mighty HIM!

I heard a HIM song once… I put them in the same category as My Chemical Romance. ie. Terrible.

So yeah.

When I first bought Mind: TPI, it was on cassette, so it didn’t have the 12"s of Addiction and DDTH. I always thought that was strange to put those bonus tracks on Mind, and not Cleanse. Personally, I prefer the album versions of those two songs, but how about that live version of Deep Down on Doomsday…freaking awesome.

Not a ViviSectVI fan? That’s ok, I don’t think any two Puppy fans are alike. I know fans who think Rabies of all albums is their best. Even Last Rights as a favorite baffles me. Probably depends on which SP album did you hear first, do you have good memories associated with that album, etc. I still think Mind/Cleanse/ViviSect is their pinnacle, and then I’d put the Bites & Remission material right after it. The two recent albums are probably at the bottom, though I do like some of the songs.

Unless Ogre, Key and co. decide to make something even more beautiful than The Center Bullet or the untitled track proceeding it (someone told me the name of it was One Day), then “Bites” will remain my favorite.

I think VIVIsectVI is great. Haven’t heard any of the recent songs at all. My first listen was a KMFDM remix of… damn, addiction or something, that track was really good, I prefer over studio version, first album I got was the process, which I dig, but most seem to hate (I know it’s “half-done”).
