The weird song titles usually (or at least used to) have meaning all to themselves. Tin Omen = Tienanmen, Hexonxonx = Hex On Exxon
At 1am when you are drunk off your ass trying to get some nookie who cares what the name of the song is or what the lyrics are? All that matters is that it makes drunk girls dance and get horny. That’s really what it boils down to me… or at least used to. Now I just make fun of everything so nothing is going to be good enough for me.
…and ministry did that for you? lol.
did you guys notice that ohgr has kind of given a “nod” to hip hop in devil in my details? and if you dig deep enough he’s does it in “Greater Wrong” album too in his lyrics.
a perfect example of what (i think - some of you guys might not) is the simple title of devil in my details. under the D’s ohgr puts periods. when you look at it from a little bit more of a distance it look like pimp.
Slack - I downloaded a few tracks off
the Insolvent Seas Live disk after your
plug. Great call! Best stuff they’ve put
in years! In my opinion, these live cuts
sound so much better than any of the
studio / album versions.

I’m stoked on this. The album art looks all kinds of cool and I’m thinking I might prefer new Puppy to old Puppy. Well, not really Mythmaker so much, but whatever.
I love the new Puppy albums. For many, the new sound started with the Process. It’s certainly calculated and catchy at times, but so was some of the early stuff like Remission and Bites. Oh yeah, the CD version of Bites is certainly one of the coolest albums I own.

‘Mythmaker’ is really an odd record…it has good ideas but overall it’s just bad.

I agree that the new sound began with ‘The Process’. It became obvious that Ogre wanted to move in a more “pop” direction.
Though I think they merged the competing structured and experimental tendencies more effectively on that one than anything after. RIP Dwayne…
Last one was acceptable, so I won’t hold my breath in the hope that they’ll produce another Last Rites.
There is a lot of love from the puppy camp for last rights, but that’s the album I started with and I can’t dig it. It sounds too much like a Halloweeny sound cd to me. I do like the intro song but everything else just sounds like a comic version of scary music. I have their whole catalogue (Thanks to a friend) but I think Last Rights has kinda tainted the view I have of them.
I remember listening to the cd that has a factory building on the front quite a bit, it wasn’t bad but it didn’t really stand out to me, hell I can’t even remember the name… although I’m thinking it was called the process… anyway that’s my skinny puppy angle.

last rights is actually the sound of someone really falling apart. Ogre having seizures in studio etc…I do carve pumpkins to it on halloween so not far off grmpy … it’s not my fave album but you’re right majority o fans seem to like this one and too dark park the best overall. The Process was an attempt to get to where nin and ministry had been at the time as far as a major label wanting to make some money from the band and get them wider exposure rather than being the cult band that influenced nin and ministry - it’s an okay album and the only album that contains a song I actually hate “cult”… Ministry fans I can see enjoying obviously Rabies and the Process, they have the most guitars and I suppose proper song structures.
This new album is based on classic electronic gear used in the early days apparently, to the extent they are redoing the old song Solvent. It would be like Al doing a new album on gear he used for twitch and redoing Over the Shoulder I guess.
Rabies is odd to me cause it sounds “light” if that makes sense? on the noise side of it would seem to be heavy music but it comes off light and fluffy to me. like it was all written in major chords or something. I don’t know, I should spin the discography again so I can weigh in proper on this puppy argument.

Interesting, it doesn’t sound all that much lighter than say LORAH… It’s a weird album because of everything going on at that time, with AL etc… Process is Beefier I guess… oh one thought though Rabies suffered early on in CD form with a bad Master, then was later remastered not sure which version you would have, they are different. But I guess you’re actually focusing on the actual notes?

I have the original release

Not really, just the overall feeling of the album. I’ll probably take a lot of shit for this comparison but Sheryl crow’s Tuesday night music club is just so damn depressing even her happy songs are sad as fuck on that album.

I bought the reissue from the 00’s. Sounds killer. I guess the bad master is what turned most people away. I’ve also seen people on here complain about Al’s involvement which I think is bullshit. Now I don’t think he should’ve become a full time member, but it was a nice one-off. cEvin Key has kinda dissed that album, but he must not dislike it all that much since they still play stuff off it every tour. I do think that Ministry should’ve showcased the album Ogre decided to be a part of the band instead of doing a Rabies tour.
Yeah new master of Rabies is MILES better than the original. I had it on vinyl and CD back in the day and never listened to it on CD due to the shitty master (and the really bad bonus tracks which I believe actually kill the album a little)

First song off the new one and I actually like it. Would be nice if there’s a new Puppy album I enjoy, am cautiously optimistic.
“A low grade dose of a rabbit up the sleeve”
Ogre’s obtuse lyrics in top form. Liking the song and how upfront the vocals and lyrics are. There were some samples available last night (the link is gone now) that sounded equally promising. More stomping beats than the last few albums and less glitch on the vocal treatments and arrangements.
