Spoiler Alert . . . Deborah is still gonna give it up.
Something painfully absent from this thread (just went back and read it again) is discussion of whether or not Chris Connelly, or anyone else in a similar situation, actually enjoys what he’s doing.
Go listen to the track entitled [url https://weaselwalter.bandcamp.com/album/chicago-no-wave-audio-documentary]“Weasel Walter on Motivation” off this interesting audio doc. I completely agree with what he says therein, about not caring about the luxuries he’s missing out on simply because he’s doing exactly what he wants to do with his life (W.W. was a record retail dude in Chicago as well, for anyone keeping score).
There’s something life-affirming about that. While I’m not going to be one of these embittered sad sacks who consoles myself by saying that the guy with the 401k and MBA is compensating for some inner emptiness, I don’t think those things are the royal road to bliss in all cases.
When I manage to find some low-paying job again, I will suck it up and be perfectly content with that. I’m otherwise where I want to be and surrounded by good people who give a damn about my existence and feed my creativity.

I don’t know. He didn’t seem super happy when he left here, hahaha. He seemed to be pretty starved for affirmations, to tell the truth. And if he did also happen to be content with his lot in life (working at PetCo or selling records or whatever the fuck he does) he sure didn’t act like it when DeadGuy or whomever put it in his face. He threw a big ass hissyfit.
But . . . . this is all well traveled territory.
If Chris is happy with where he is, good for him! If not . . . well, I guess he made some bad decisions and might want to explore some other options.
