It’s good. Like the best elements of the last three albums, with crazy double-kick added.
right on.
the production isn’t as soft as MIND, RGB still has some high frequency abuse issues. esp. on the loud distorted vox, on the letters s, t, z, c.
also i’d drop a few tracks off the album. gangreen fucking sux. fuck that sgt. major or whoever the hell is that. he’s not up par to drill sgt from full metal jacket, too. anyway, gangreen sucks. also lieslieslies is kinda sucky. and who do i hear there? why, it’s al’s new faggy friend spyderbaby, the manson-wannabe who shouts “lies surprise surprise”. fuck him. “fear” also could be shorter. yellow cake is bad as soon as guitars kick in.
khyber pass FUCKIN AWESOME. lol.
overall it’s better than houses, but at the same time it’s nothing extraordinary, imho influences were slayer, sepultura, sodom and alike bands. some harmonics (not harmonies) in some riffs sound like children of bodom stuff. or something. so… now i see why they need joey as drummer, hehe.
i’d drop approx 3-4 tracks from this album (so it will be 40 mins) and it would be perfect (to my taste).
so… that’s my thoughts
anyway i think al is trying to write stuff that hard and aggressive and it’s obvious why he’s into metal right now…
but. some tracks from lorah still sound more menacing and more angry/agressive than anything on RGB.
Just noticed another change to Great Satan from the Rantology version. The line that used to be “We don’t need your fuckin’ war, so get your asses out”, has been changed to “bringing down the USA is what it’s all about”. They must’ve totally reworked that song from start to finish.
After some repeated listens, this album seems to be like ‘Houses’ again for me, in that I love half of it and think the rest is boring. Some of the more metal tracks like “Senor Peligro”, “Gangreen” and “Fear” have just ho-hum rhythms, yet the title track, “LiesLiesLies” and “Ass Clown” (I just love the concept of this track) are bloody murderous (yknow, in a good way). Probably wont be buying this one either, but I’ll make a point to buy the half I like on iTunes.
Then again, its early, and the whole album may grow on me. Very good chance of that actually.
Anyone else but me think the production on “Yellow Cake” is a little wierd? I was hoping for some “Black Bush” Dave Chappelle samples in that too Like the music would stop and you’d hear “That’s right, YELLOW CAKE.” “DON’T DROP THAT SHIT!”
Dig this new release. It IS speed metal. I accept that and move on. I laaahhk it!!! Dig the cleaner version of Great Satan. The rest of the trax are thumpin’. Ministry has been reinvigorated!
Rio Grande Blood, LiesLiesLies, Yellow Cake, Palestina, Ass Clown and Khyber Pass to me personally are the ‘better’ tracks on the album. While the ‘new’ version of The Great Satan is wayyy better than the version on Rantology I’m still not a fan, and i hate that sample at the start x( I like the a few parts of Senor Peligro, but really, to me its just too generic. Gangreen is just too try hard. it just is crap, seriously they should have sampled off Full Metal Jacket. This sgt major is just too corny. This track is just bad. Fear (Is big business) is just to thrash for my personal tastes. And the bonus track is just bad bad bad. if gangreen was bad this is a zillion times worse, atleast gangreen had some music.
Thats my quick run down. Will I buy it: fuck yeah! its Ministry! [sly]
i guess i’m in the minority by liking gangreen… in fact i think it’s pretty great. i don’t find it (or any element of rgb) corny, unlike some of hotm. and what about that No W video…
the only track that i thought was a bit weak was lieslieslies… but then it got to the break bit and i forgot what i disliked about it, all was forgiven.
anybody else think track 2 sounds a lot like sepultura? could’ve come from Roots. the vocals sound a bit like the workhorse movement too.
I’ve been lurking for a bit now. The reason being was that I was unhappy with most of Jourgensen’s new output (cocked and loaded, rantology) and I didn’t want to contribute any more negative vibes to the forum.
But I gotta say that this new MINISTRY album is smokin!!! I’m truly impressed… Way to go Al and co!!!
The old man has truly been working hard and much props to him.
Hope I haven’t been a curmudgeon on this board, just expressing my feelings as a longtime MINISTRY fan.
I haven’t downloaded this album, and won’t (hell, I still haven’t heard the new Revco, can’t wait till I get it in the mail next week). Love the reviews though. Even the haters seem to like it! That’s always a good sign. Looking forward to hearing it in May.
Yeah, I’m a dick like that. Really, I certainly don’t have it in for them in any way (the Pissheads) but everytime I go to that board there’s some idiot or another just pissing me off. I know some of you are there, and it’s none of you - Maxmal seems pretty cool, actually. Anyway, I’d just really prefer to share it with you guys over anyone else, because you’re more likely to BUY it.
