Seriously though if you haven’t, check out “The Necromancer” on my myspace page. It’s like Pink Anvil halloween-ish shit but with some fat tribal beats. I think you might like it. Curious to know what you think.

“The Necromancer” is really good except for the tinny keyboard part. I’d love a remix that took that out and added a few samples in their place. I think you’ve generally got great sequenced synths but the live ones don’t have the same quality.

Dude that was a mile better than anything on Pink Anvil’s Halloween album. There are very few albums that I really hate with a passion…Pink Anvil’s Halloween is one of them.

If you added some rather larger bass levels to that Necromancer I’d like it even more…regardless I thought it was quite interesting.[/reply]

Thanks man. Yeah I thought that song would appeal because it has this tribal/African drum circle vibe to it and the live tabla stuff.

I think it’s pretty well mixed. I need to start using monitors on this stuff though. The next few things I put up will probably be the last before I cave in an get a nice pair of studio monitors.

Does anyone have suggestions for a good pair? I’m willing to drop like $500 (tax return)

Thanks. The tinniness of it is probably because I wanted it to sound like a sample if that makes sense. Like something out of an old Arabian Nights movie or something.

That track “Pilgrimage” from NIN’s ‘The Fragile’ came to mind when I was mixing it. I loved how he made this melody and then EQ’d it to sound like an old epic gladiator type movie or something.

But any tips on my mixing are helping. I probably have some hearing loss in the mid-upper range by now, and I don’t want to pull an Al. Is it “painful” to you, or you just think it could do with more of a full range EQ-wise? I’m about to release ‘Halloween Freaks’ as a physical EP so I’d like to fix whatever is bothering people beforehand.

I’ll also try to bump the bass a bit for Toot.

From personal experience:

I actually have the RP5 G2s (5" speaker), and they’re excellent reference monitors. You can also get 8" speakers (RP8), and the bundle is $499. There are three input connection options on back - RCA, 1/4", and XLR, and knobs for HF gain and volume. They’re among the best studio monitors you can buy for under $500. My only gripe is that the matching subwoofer (10", 225W) is $400 by itself, so I’m just using the Logitech 500W sub from my pc.

Good call!

It doesn’t cause pain though it does seem much louder than the rest of the track and that makes it a bit obvious that it’s not as well played as most the rest of the track. All the sampling and sequencing are really solid but the keyboard palying comes across as a lot more amateur, if that makes sense (and apologies if that’s you playing, I’m not trying to be mean).

If I were mixing I’d probably just sample an old arabian movie, but with the part you have I might actually sample it, break it into two or three parts and then play the samples, the first one a few times before the second or some such. I’d drop the volume a few notches. I like the idea of “reediness” that the sound has and I might add a subtle flange or phase to emphasize that reediness while also blending it into the mix a little. Does that make sense?

Yeah I’ll try doing that. I agree it’s too loud. I always overcompensate with that kind of stuff cuz it’s like the “heart” of the song. As for the playing, my keyboardist is very talented so if it is a bit sloppy I’ve no doubt it’s because we were a bit drunk or it was the first take…don’t rightly remember. Either way I think the playing is fine and suits the song just needs to be lower and maybe some phaser. Thanks for the feedback.

And sorry to hijack the thread. If these shirts ever do see the light of day I’ll be quite surprised and will buy one if it’s cool.

I’d prefer it to be something more serious instead of mentioning “those people”. In fact a simple prongs.org logo on the front and something on the back. I’ll chip in - I’d love this.

i’d buy a black or darker blueish shirt, same colors as the forum, with prongs.org written on it in the font from up top here.

I want want that says “special ed sodomized your honor student” on the front and “prongs.org” on the back.

[laugh] ^

why don’t we make it look like the dark side of the spoon ringer T?
prongs.org/ministry” on the front and then then “http://prongs.org/minfiles/forum/gforum.cgi” on the back?

or even a screen shot of the front page and prongs.org/ministry on the back

How about:

“I can’t believe these t-shirts got made in the end!”

prongs.org

I like the look of the ringer tee.

I also like the ‘it’s not our fault’ idea. with no names or anything as ^ said.

i’d even enjoy just a prongs.org shirt.

The ringer-t is cool.
When you mentioned DSotS I was afraid it would have the fat lady on it.

make sure its prongs.org/ministry cos prongs.org is a whole different thing.

Now this is a cool t-shirt:

I’m a stupid, stupid man sometimes.

I just realized that since I’m in a printmaking course at the college… I could actually make some snazzy T’s.

Assuming I can cover materials and whatnot, I might be able to pull this off.
