…a didgeridoo,…

FTW!!

The rig I was using with Love, Kingsford before I left that band:

Moog Micromoog (mostly used to run stuff through the killer filter and for oscillator sweeps)
Radio Shack MD-1121 keyboard (Casio with a RS nameplate, main keyboard)
Yamaha PS-30 (later replaced by…)
Yamaha PSR-11 (which I put an arcade-style button killswitch on)
Behringer Xenyx 802 mixer
BOSS DD-7 Digital Delay Pedal
Peavey Bandit 112 Combo Amp
Vocal mic made from an old telephone handset

I also had a Metal Zone, Super Phaser, and Super Chorus (all by BOSS) which all nestled together nicely with the DD-7 and the mixer in a BOSS BCB-60 Pedal Board. Unfortunately, those three pedals and the pedal board were loaners and stayed with the band.

I have some other fun shit, including:

Rheem Kee-Bass - a really old bass keyboard made by a water heater company, mine needs a little work http://www.combo-organ.com/Rheem/index.htm

Skylark guitar - apparently pretty rare, but nothing special - http://www.matsumoku.org/models/skylark/skylark_info.html (mine is the red one with the stripes in the middle)

and of course didgeridoos, contact mics, boxes and boxes of toy keyboards/smaller casio and yamaha keyboards and other toys sitting around waiting to be circuit bent, several old air organs, a nice rack mount delay & reverb unit that currently lives with my podcasting partner, a couple old portastudios, Gemini TT-02 direct drive turntable with Ortofon Arkiv cartridge, my trusty TASCAM DR-07 handheld recorder, an old Hallicrafters S-108 shortwave radio I am restoring, and a big old Akai Reel-to-reel.

I also have two full-size organs that both still live with the band, one is from the 50’s or 60’s and is waiting to be ripped apart and repurposed (bass pedals are going to get oscillators and made into a stand-alone bass synth, rhythm accompaniment section will be made into a stand-alone circuit bent drum machine, volume pedal will become a wah, etc.), and the other organ was a top of the line model from 1986 or so that is still in dynamite condition.

Will be building new effects myself to make up for the ones I had to give back.

Recording/editing software is Cakewalk Sonar and good old AUDACITY!

Wempathy, hold out on the Monotron and check out the Monotribe… Those things are awesome. Any tracks in particular that use the Juno 60? I was stoked to figure out that one of my favorite albums by M83 (Saturdays = Youth) used the Juno 2.

Thanks. I will.

Almost all of the parts that required a poly-synth that I played were on a Juno 60. I played the “bell-piano” part on Revenge with a J60. And the string bit with the pitch bend in “I Wanted to Tell Her” I played on a J60. Just about any string patch was a J60. I don’t think we got the Jupiter 8 until after the recording was done so a lot of stuff was done with a Juno 60. Even the noise-solo on Here We Go was played by Al on a J60 although I played it live.

Nice! Awesome info there. If you’re interested in the Monotribe it’s quite a few more bones than the Monotron but way more filters to play with

Also I recently took this picture, this is what my winter break is consisting of thus far.

Nice. Chicago made kit? I think Ludwig moved to North Carolina in the 80’s. I remember the old factory on North Damen where Bill Ludwig had his office. Stevo and I once went to meet him when Stevo got his Ludwig endorsement.

Here goes…besides the aforementioned Yamaha acoustic/electric…

Yamaha CG-151s classical guitar
Ibanez SDGR bass
Fender FR-50 Resonator tuned to open G
Epiphone '62 Reissue SG in Cherry Mahogany
Fender SLR Telecaster Butterscotch Ash Noiseless

Vox VT50 Valvetronic
Fender Stage 100 DSP

Boss DS-2 Turbo Distortion
Dunlop Crybaby Wah

Alesis Micron in Blue (kinda rare, most are red)
Yamaha YPT-410 - a great bargain. Plus I really like the feel of Yamaha keys…even the bargain ones like the YPT series.

For recording I use a Zoom MRS-1608 w/burner. I’ve had it for years and it’s been a stalwart performer. I prefer working with standalone devices rather than PC recorders.

Wishlist - Fender tube amp, maybe a Hot Rod Blues Jr.
A mandolin, a ukelele, an accordion and an upright piano.

Nice. Chicago made kit?

Not sure…I’ve have them since the early 80’s. They’re in really good shape though.

I think that they are then. Wouldn’t happen to be the highly sought after Black Oyster Pearl version? If so…Cha-ching!!

ovation acoustic
marshall JCM 900 head
marshall jcm 900 cab.
fender princeton chorus (1991?)
tascam 424

Impressive list. Really like the Vibro Champ.

Dust settled in because I fucked up my foot…I’ve played a couple times but now that I’m back to normal, I’ll be jamming next year for sure!

cool set up, davely

Thanks Dildo! I was wondering about your Korg 01/WFD- I was looking at one of those up at Guitar Center a few months back- I think it needed a new floppy drive. Overall, how well does the floppy drive work- is it reliable? Have you gotten any cool sounds out of the waveshaping feature? It was priced outside of my range at the time, but it was actually a pretty reasonable price, so I was wondering if I should grab it if another one popped up locally. I’m more of an analog guy, but that keyboard intrigued me.

I’m still unpacking at the new crib, last night I found an old melodica and a Yamaha DJX-IIB groove box. It’s kind of a DJ toy, it has a bunch of loops in it and built-in effects and a scratch pad that you can set to do all different kinds of shit. It seems lame, but it’s actually kind of cool. None of the youtube videos out there really do justice to the kind of sounds you can coax out of this box. I haven’t played with this thing in years (for some reason I thought it was broken, but I popped some batteries in last night and it fired right up), but I’m looking forward to adding this into my arsenal for noise and podcast. Eventually, I’ll probably hook it up to my computer and swap out the preset sounds for some of my own craziness, but that’s a ways off.

I also have a 1-bit groove box that I built from a kit this spring which is pretty rad: http://web.media.mit.edu/~nvawter/projects/1bit/

Once the finances are more in order, I think I’d like to attempt to build the Shruthi-1 and a Sidekick from here: http://mutable-instruments.net/

And eventually, I’d like to build a giant modular rack synth.

If I was rich, I’d go find me an ARP-2600 or a Mellotron.

nice!

how’d you break your fingers?

Ouch! Sorry to hear about your fingers, Log, but that is a pretty sweet looking axe.

Monotron has a $20 rebate in the US if purchased between late October and next week. Once done @$40.

great score prologue

bummer 'bout the fingers though… seems like stuff always works out like that though.
Late,
grmpysmrf

Holy crow, prologue, that finger story made me wince.
