Pitchforkmedia reviews Rio Grande Blood

I love sepultura, and slayer, well some slayer, some of it’s crap unless I’m missing something. I suppose its just like soulfly… it’s just generic metal, but I still like it, and think it sounds better than 90% of the other metal bands out there. How far can you go with the “metal” sound. I havn’t really heard anything fresh for a while. Maybe QOTSA, but thats not really metal, and Lullabies… got complained about anyway. I dunno what people expect anymore… any new release by a band seems to get slagged by anyone who has heard their “breakthroughs”. It’s a curse of any band. I do it too, but still appreciate new albums, in most cases… Hmm black sabbath is one exception I can think of, I really like the first 6 or so albums, and random songs of the next 50 albums, but found a lot of it tedious and crappy. Maybe thats how people are feeling about ministry, I don’t know why I am different with newer bands, maybe just because they are the bands I have fond memories of listening to during my teen years… haha, my teen years, I’m barely out of them. Suppose I should listen to more new ministry before I rush to their defense though to be fair.

Ministry is the Al Jourgensen show technically… though I know what you mean about it not being “ministry” but… what makes “ministry” LORAH to DSOTS? Is with sympathy ministry?

Lol… I’m in a bad mood today, I’m just constantly hearing everyone bag out the new tool, the new ministry, new chili peppers, new anything. JUst get over it! They can’t reproduce their “classic albums” again, people would bag them out then too for repeating themselves.

good point. dsots is for me their closest thing to lorah since the peak days of psalm 69.

with symathy rules, i love that album.

about tool - i dont understand whats the bagging is all about, 10k days is an awesome album. just week of listening to it and i instantly like it as much as lateralus.

I can’t believe how much everyone is slaging ministry of at the moment about Rio & Mole.
Is seems to me that every one just wants another Psalm 69 album which in my opinion is the only album that has dated over the years (except WS).
If you all go and get all your Ministry albums out and listen to them you notice that they are all different in some way or another, so what if Rio Grande Blood isn’t the best album he has done at least his still trying something new.
House of the Mole is an outstanding album and in my opinion one of his best.
But then that’s just my opinion.
Just stop worrying about it, get on with life and look forward to the next one.

PS Cock and Loaded, I can’t get enough of this album, Listen to it again it grows on you.

The new Jesu ep is really good.

So is the new Killing Joke album (though their fans are a whingey lot, too).

And for straight-up raw stomp rock, the new Nebula is quite good as well.

Newness isn’t the problem.

There is a new Celtic Frost album out there as well, if anyone here cares about them. Thats yet another band with a huge legacy to live up to. IMO they totally succeeded and they did it by doing something completely new and different than before.

Very true.
Didn’t like it much at first, but I put it in again the other night and I was REALLY digging it. Except for maybe Jack In the Crack and the unnecessary repeat of the Revcolution Medley.

I agree, and thank you for putting me in a good mood, once again! I’m all, like, sloppy drunk, and angry, and I was about to go off on people’s grammar for no good reason, and you put a smile on my face (which you’re usually good for!). So, thanks.

was my accidental creation of the word “legitably” one slated for gramma school?

Haha, no, I think I just meant in general. That IS a good one, though, truly.
