OT: The Dark Knight (Batman Begins Sequel)

Indeed we shall.

I want to see the new batman! First the X-Flies though.

So I went to see the midnight showing of the Dark Knight.

What I DIDN’T know was that every-fuckin’-body and their mothers basically snagged every goddamned ticket a couple days beforehand, thus leaving me shit outta luck. I mean everyone. Jesus, the whole city turned out for this bitch.

So, in attempting not only to sneak in, but pay off a security guard and kaif someone else’s ticket, I get kicked out of the cinemas.

So sure, I missed out on the initial screening… but a hilarious misadventure instead? Just as good.

That was pretty much the whole friggin’ crowd that night… Frat-boy douches, emo-screamo attention whores, and endless mobs of hipster TRASH, as you said, all texting each other.

Save a few hardcore comic geeks (all of which I’d known personally… Hah, two of which showed up as the Joker), no class in that mess.

Cops all over the place, too… Lucky for me, eh?

i just figured the semi educated batman fan just skipped the crowd and downloaded the movie

oh it’s bootlegged… but the nerds gotta only give it to the l33t friends… saves them the jailtime

emo-screamo attention whores

I really detest these particular patrons of the cinema. And I know when I go to see this film there will be some there. They should introduce special charges for them (maybe x1.5 or x2 the standard ticket fare) as they are more offensive to ones dignity and eardrums than most other cinema goers. Though a pack of young lads from “the wrong side of the tracks” are usually the favourites to steal the award for most obnoxious audience members. I remember last year a guy in his 20s with his girlfriend flipped out at a group of 3-4 12 year olds as they persisted to disturb the peace. It was so funny as this guy seemed to be very respectable, he could barely curse at them and his voice was quivering when he was giving out to them. His final words to them as they were being escorted out by security was: “You are all little shits and your lives are going to be shit” I think they were genuinely offended.

Man… that’s epic. “You are all little shits, and your lives are going to be shit.”

Quote of the fuckin’ YEAR.

I like the emo kid additional charge.

If you comb your hair to the left = 2.50 extra
Texting = 3.00 extra
Vapid discussions = 5.00 extra
Panic at the Fall Out Avenged Seven or something other fan = 10.00 extra

Sho 'nuff. That’ll thin out their ranks a little.

“I don’t want to KILL you! You complete me!”

outstanding.

when i was at the cd store today they were pre-selling this on DVD already… I asked the clerk and he said they had at least a 100 people who reserved a copy…

After a few nights of arriving too late at the cinema and being told it was sold out, I eventually saw Dark Knight last night. First impressions is that it is an impressive movie. Some sequences (eg. the opening bank heist, the underground chase) were expertly put together. Theres so much going on in it theres no really dull bits but it does seem like they tried to cram too much in. 150 mins for me aint a problem but the film seems like 200 mins. Ledger as joker I thought was excellent; he didnt have to do much to get a response from the audience (who thankfully were mature) eg. when he visits Dent in hospital dressed as a nurse and says “Hi” everyone laughed. The film is not about batman as such so Bale takes a back seat so to speak, a sacrifice by him and by batman in the story. Il need to see it again to really judge it but I did enjoy it despite it being a bit overhyped.

Man, I was expecting a let down, but this movie was terrific. I saw it at Navy Pier (Imax) and that’s really the only way to see a good action movie. Never had before.

Yeah, the Brave & Bold series looks freakin’ awesome!

Still haven’t seen Dark Knight yet, one of these nights…

Ive just seen it and I gotta say I loved it.
The best thing about it, to me, is that it really doesn’t play out much like a Batman movie (except for the superficial aspects of it) and is instead a very accomplished film in its own right. It doesn’t feel much like an adaptation and is instead a cinematic tragedy that merely uses well known characters to put its point across.

With Batman films in the past, there was always a part of me that approached them from the point of view of childhood comic book fanboyism. How many lesser known characters will get a mention? What obscure details from the comic books will be included? What cool things will Batman do?

With The Dark Knight, I found myself so drawn into the film’s story, somber mood and philosophical discourse that I ended up not caring about these things at all. In many ways, The Dark Knight works for me in the same way Eastwood’s Unforgiven did. The two films share many themes, such as if a hero needs to go down to the villains level in order to defeat him and if it is possible to lead a normal life after/during the life of a bountry hunter/vigilante.

I’m definitely getting this film on a physical medium when it gets released.

I feel I would have the same problem. I am notorious for not being able to give up a preconceived idea of what I ‘should’ be watching for what I am watching.
Certainly sounds ok from what you say.

Still have yet to see this thing.

…Screw it. I’ll just get the Goddamned DVD. [cool]

You’ve hit the nail on the head. From what I can tell this film has gone down well with the comic book crowd, but more importantly it is an accomplished film in its own right regardless of any “obligation” it has to another medium. Its huge breadth gives one the sense of awe; you can call this film an epic (albeit maybe a flawed one but so what). It certainly is the best Batman film ever made, hands down. Ive just picked up the soundtrack and its great, really captures the feeling of the movie. That opening scene of the bank heist is legendary and the track for it, ‘Why So Serious?’ is magnificent. It starts with that piercing whine and all you can think of that swooping chopper shot coming into the building. The last song on the album, called ‘The Dark Knight’, is an emotive masterpiece, ive listened to it loads already. Very inspiring. Some other quality tracks too, they sound great on a good sound system. Id recommend picking up the album, its a great accompaniment to the flick.

Still have yet to see this thing.

Dude, if you can catch it in the cinema, do. It benefits from a big screen and surround sound. Im definitely going to see it again in the cinema.

I might. I just might.

If you are within an hour of an Imax go see it there. Its well worth it. I’ve never seen a movie so ridiculously huge and perfect on that screen.
