JLW, wasn’t referring to the music content so much as the fact Belew will be standing there while Trent croons ‘I wanna fuck you like an animal’. Then again, he did work with Zappa… but Trent’s taking himself seriously when he sings that. Sort of? I don’t know. Urgh.
I’m just glad Dildo is back! Yo!
I can’t imagine Belew playing something like Closer, or Wish, with a straight face.
It really does seem beneath him.
Dildo, you’re back! Peep my new track, nigga!!
I’m holding out for Emerson, Lake, and Reznor.
Winnar.

I’m still busy as ever. I was away from this board because a lot of really crappy things happened last year and I just too heaps of time out.
One of the most mystical experiences of my year involved doing a massive fart. If I wrote about it and posted it… you’d understand.
That lineup is unreal. I can’t wait to hear what they come with. I’m a huge fan King Crimson/Adrian Belew, Jane’s Addiction and Telefon Tel Aviv.
I always figured NIN would come back as a lighter version, possibly playing smaller venues and choosing quieter (still) song selections, maybe even just Reznor with piano and/or backing band, but this is much better.
Pretty sure Belew worked on Ghosts I-IV with Reznor as well. I’m a huge Belew fan. His solo work in the 80s isn’t really my favorite, but his overall work with KC is brilliant, and his Power Trio releases and recent tours have been awesome. I was actually slightly sad reading the news that he joined NIN (but really, cool lineup), only because I now won’t see another Three of A Perfect Tour with Levin’s Stick Men for at least a couple of years (the Phoenix show included a surprise appearance by Danny Carey, who duo’d with Pat Mastelotto on drums during the King Crimson set).
1002
eric avery is a killer bass player not for nin style…
Avery seems like the kind of bassist you could throw anywhere (but Jane’s…). I think he’s a great choice. Have a hard time seeing Belew playing the hits, but i’m sure he will. His contributions on Ghosts are a clear indication of that. I’m not too familar with Telefon Tel Aviv aside from remixes and Eustis co-producing the Black Light Burns album. Kinda curious to check that out now.
But i’m very happy with the current lineup.
Lot of fan speculation that the involvement of Belew and a larger lineup is related to Reznor producing a live version of The Fragile.
My guess is that won’t happen unless these shows coincide with the now-mythical rerelease of the album. This image http://nin.com/2013-title.jpg and the fact not too many people would pay for a FRAGILE ONLY set makes me believe Trent and band will revisit a lot of the first decade of NIN and approach the songs with the virtuosity these musicians offer. I’m thinking of how “Piggy” was handled on the Lights in the Sky tour. Though it’s hard to really let my imagination run wild with what groove and guitar theatrics Avery and Belew both could bring to the rigid confines of these songs. Anyone?

I wouldn’t mind seeing The Fragile live. Trent and Co. played an interesting choice of songs from the album on the NINJA tour. Those were the highlights from that show, as well as “The Becoming” and opening with the With Teeth b-side “Home.” Aside from that, the rest of the set was completely predictable and I also had to sit through “Metal” goddammit! Speaking of Fragile, what were the contents of the re-release? All I know is it was supposed to be remastered in 5.1 surround, but was Things Falling Apart gonna be a bonus disc? It would also be nice if there was a disc comprised of the 3 rare import “We’re In This Together Now” singles. I’d much rather see the Broken/Fixed reissue. I thought it was gonna come out last year since it was the 20th Anniversary. Those both need to be remastered.
But yeah, Fragile. “Somewhat Damaged,” “Into The Void” and “No, You Don’t” are on my bucket list for NIN live.
i’d jizz my pants if they played a fragile tour…hopefully in small venues -_-.
The Fragile is the one NIN album I can’t get into so a tour focused that would be a miss for me (but I suspect Trent will do just fine without me).
The Fragile is my favorite, so i’d go. I think a lot of the songs are going to be reworked to fit the current mood/band. Trent’s direction isn’t what it used to be. His soundtracks, etc. are evidence that he wants to do new things. I’m all for it.

i HATE when they “rework” songs. especially if that means turning them into lame ass rock songs. i was so fucking disappointed when i saw them live, i can’t reiterate that enough lol.
broken/downward spiral/the fragile is trent’s golden age. THE DRUGS!
I’m making an appearance in this thread just to let you all know (again cause I’ve said it before) that everything after Pretty Hate Machine is crappy posturing! No other NIN release comes close to the heartache and raw emotion that is captured in the magnificant album that is Pretty Hate Machine.
Carry on with your pseudo debate and opinions, bastards!

Which is exactly why Broken is better. That’s a pissed off album as opposed to a whiny album.

Now I didn’t say PHM sucked. Broken is a better album overall. I like every song on that album. PHM had “That’s What I Get” and “Ringfinger” which I usually skip. The demos of those songs are much better.
