Yeah, it was really good, and it was very dark and surprisingly nasty.[/reply]

LONG RANT:

I’m a little over an hour in and it’s good for what it is… so far. But it is NOT a Robocop movie, and in my opinion, not worthy of the title.

I keep thinking that this should’ve been made into a short T.V. series like The Sarah Connor Chronicles or someone could’ve been clever for once and created something NEW and unique around this. It hits hard and nails it on the emotional aspects. It really does the “emotion” part well and far better than even the original but it’s failed miserably on what made Robocop so awesome a movie to begin with.

Also, I felt a little weirded out at what felt like propaganda in this film thus far (oh fuck, am I becoming “that guy”?). The part I left off on was with Sam Jackson’s character asking on his FoxNewsesque T.V. show, “Has the U.S. Senate become pro-crime?” or something. So far this movie has made it seem like the only logical person in the entire fucking movie is a senator - and sometimes the dude who sort of created RoboCop - played by none other than the amazing Gary Oldman. Seriously, that man is an amazing actor.

Like I said, it hits hard with emotions. It really captures a good idea of what it could possibly, maybe, kinda be like having to be a RoboCop but falls face first with what made RoboCop the RoboCop (no fucking Spiderman leaps over walls, to begin with).
However, I’m not finished with the film. Maybe it somehow goes batshit crazy and proves everything I’ve said wrong. Well, except for the gore. They can’t PG-13 their way out of that. Although they did a great job of really hitting home how gruesome and terrible Murphy’s injuries were. I cringed at certain parts at the beginning because of how well they played it off. But even that part is so damn weak and pathetic compared to the original. A car bomb? In the original we had to sit and watch a man get gunned down piece by piece. He was literally shot to fucking chunks of meat while being taunted.

I don’t know…

… And why the fuck is Lewis a goddamn black guy???

So, what was your opinion by the end of the film? I liked it a lot, it was a pretty dark show. When they showed that he uses a tazer i thought “what the fuck, so he doesn’t even kill people?”, but it seems the tazer’s just a warm-up and he uses his machine gun most of the time. He kills quite a lot of people. Anyway, i really liked it, The Sarah Connor Chronicles was a great show as well, it just kept getting better until, obviously, the dickheads in authority cancelled it.

Honestly, I’m glad you asked because I didn’t wanna rant on it anymore unless there was some sort of response to my previous post.

I dug the shit out of it for WHAT IT WAS. I never really saw it as a RoboCop film while watching it. It is nothing like those movies but that didn’t make it shit or deny the fact that it is really well done in CERTAIN areas. The emotional aspect of it was on top. I actually found myself thinking, “Fuck that, it would suck to be RoboCop.” Insanity! How could I turn on my dreams so quickly?

It was FAR better than I expected and I did find myself enjoying the visuals, revenge, and emotional aspects of it (I keep saying “emotional aspects” whenever I talk about it, how annoying…). But I felt the end was rushed and there was never a villain I wanted to really pay or for Robo to get his hands on like in the original (or even the second film). The pretty boy, hot wife, cute kid-part felt so cliche and his “death”, or whatevr you wanna call it, was weak as fuck. I guess nothing can compare to the original in that department though.

To summarize: It’s like the missing chapter out of some epic novel that is the called RoboCop. It’s the emotional part the helps you connect with the human inside of the machine and makes it feel as if it’s your own revenge, worth and redemption the protagonist is seeking.

It really should’ve been a T.V. series or something that was still a part of but not stuck to the RoboCop canon. Because it adds a necessary layer but lacks the menace and so, so, so much more that the original had.

Also, the corny T.V. show clips with Sam Jackson were shite and horrible attempts at trying to recreate what the original (and even the second!!!) accomplished. It felt more like propaganda than anything else.

Yeah, i know what you mean about the tv clips, i did prefer them in the original myself, but i enjoyed Jackson’s part, he was obviously just a scumbag who acted as the voice of big business and tried to brainwash the people watching at home that they were doing great things. Total propaganda.

The emotional aspect was definitely a big part of this one, and being Robo definitely doesn’t look as fun as it used to do, haha. The bit where Oldman (fantastic, as usual) shows Murphy what’s really left of him is pretty devastating.

It’s definitely not as good or as iconic as the original, but for a remake that pretty much everyone was up in arms against, it works well. I recommend Elite Squad 1 and 2 if you haven’t seen them, by the same director, they’re crazy films, really good stuff. I think if he had been allowed by the studio to actually do what he wanted and not had his hands tied behind his back at every turn by them, the film would have been a real classic. As it stands, it’s a good film, and it’s so ironic that a film where they’re taking pot shots as making things by committee and towing the company line, the same thing was happening behind the scenes between the director and the studio.

Yeah, I’d forgotten how much shit the director was supposedly having to go through to get his vision across. It’s without a doubt so much better than I’d thought it would be. All in all it’s not what I thought it would be and it’s not even what I’d wanted it to be but I still enjoyed most of it for what it was. I was expecting it to get raped and bastardized like Terminator did with the 3rd and 4th films.

That scene really stuck with me and was the first time I’d ever actually thought of Robo that way. I’d lose my shit and have a stroke if I saw myself like that. Brutal.

Wanna see a bad ass, dark action flick? Watch The Raid:Redemption…holy fuck is that movie great…!

Never heard of it… but 2011 was kind of a lost year for me. After briefly skimming over some reviews on IMDB, other sites and people mentioning how visceral it is I’ll check it out.

Yeah,I guarantee you will dig it…

I can’t believe I missed the famous rhyming in the initial retaliation against Gunnar.

That was great, it could be an outtake from “The Chronic” or something. I want to use it for my signature now
