I have a 64 gig iPod Touch. One thing you might want to consider is the actual interface of the mp3 player you buy. It’s not tactile-friendly like the other player mentioned previously, so I have to look at the screen to skip to the next track, pause, etc. I know this sounds trivial, but it can be annoying if you are exercising or something. There are physical volume buttons though.
this was my biggest complaint. jailbreak ipod. install glovepod. problem solved. works great.
I’ve had three Sandisk players crap out on me, but the last one was a couple years back. I really mostly used them with an adapter in the car anyway, so I bit the bullet and just bought a new head unit that plays mp3 CDs and has a USB port I can plug a thumb drive into and play mp3s from as well. Best ninety bucks I’ve ever spent. No more batteries or audio cables that go to shit and cut out all the time after a month in the car.
Well so far all I’m hearing is you want to get a new MP3 player, and maybe one to watch movies on.
A better question I might have is do you have a smartphone, and if so what do you use it for? Most phones let you watch movies easily at this point, so if you want an MP3 player just for an MP3 player, get a Sandisk Zip Clip.
The 4GB model is $40 bucks, and when you buy a 32GB Micro SD card ($30 value) it becomes a 36GB player because it has an SD slot. Also has sections for podcasts, FM radio, etc. The beautiful thing is that if it becomes damaged, you can take the SD card out (your music is saved, no risk of losing files), buy another one, and you’re only short $40…fat chance though, I have dropped mine several times and it doesn’t even have scratches. Oh and it plays FLAC!
If you want music/video…get an older iPod w/Video. Do never get a Touch - if the headphone jack gets screwed, it costs a fortune to get it fixed. The older iPods are easier to replace their parts, literally 10-15 mins of your time and a few bucks plus no risky damages.
Fuck Apple…don’t have anything Apple…Thanks though for the feedback. I have a Galaxy S II…I really want something separate from my phone as that’s what I use it for…and surf at lunch too.

i was given a touch for free, and i have had a few pairs of headphones start to get wierd on me, was wondering if the jack could be the issue.
so that’s 4 huge issues i have with this device now.
had to jailbreak to get physical buttons to do more than volume.
the thing seems to hate Win7, as there is some strange usb driver issue that will make it not be not recognized by the computer. Apples official help files say to try a different usb port, and if that does work, TRY IT AGAIN. yes, their tech support is literally DO THE SAME THINGS MULTIPLE TIMES UNTIL IT WORKS. and the fucked up thing is that it does. what the hell?
it’s an 8gb ipod, but since it needs to run fancy ass ios5.whatevs, it reserve 1.5 gigs on space for the operating system, etc. AND THEN< when i need to do a firmware update to try and fixxx the usb issues, i needed one gig of free space for the 200 meg update. Not the already reserved 1.5gb mind you, but an additional 1gb of music/content i had to remove from my device just to update the firmware, which i would not have been doing in the first place if the shitting thing would just work like a regular us fuckin b device.
and now this headphone jack is crapping out on me? good christ.

There’s always the alternative of Zune - sure, they don’t make them anymore, but you can buy them on the cheap now due to it, and they are solid players. I just have no idea what format(s) they play. I know the iPods typically only play MP4’s.
I’m not big on video on portable devices, but really iPod and Zune are the closest you can get.

Mine wasn’t the jack getting screwy with channels (one channel dead unless you fidget with the male end of the jack, pushing it in deep and to the side…pretty sexual yeah), it was the volume going down half by like 50%. Permanently. All tied to the jack though, I tried many headphones.
On the older iPods, you can take a butter knife, slide it down the sides of the case, take out the screws and re-attach a new jack for like 2 bucks. Easy peasy.
The new iPod Touch lines have the headphone jack ribbons SOLDERED on. In FOUR DIFFERENT LOCATIONS. So not only does one have to take the thing off delicately, as to not damage the LCD screen and glass, but they have to de-solder the points and HOPE TO GOD they don’t fry the board, and then re-solder the points on with the same paste.
It’s a goddamn pain in the ass, and it’s pretty much the only main reason why I dislike Apple - they will never make it easy for the consumer to alter their products easily.

ugh. that sounds awful.
i’d like to thank everyone in this thread for opening my eyes for mp3 players with sd slots. this will be my next purchase.
