"More Portishead than Motorhead"

Not even so much because of the music, which itself is fine - but just because of the especially weak lyrics and half-assed vocal performance.

You HAVE TO ignore the lyrical content to enjoy RELAPSE unless you put on your Hipster hat to enjoy them ironically. Seriously, they are comically bad. Musically, the album is fucking killer. Lyrically, it’s the dumbed-down heavy metal version of “The Room”.

“1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8, 99 Percenters! Let’s put 'em all away! Put 'em in handcuffs! Throw away the key, 'cause enough is enough!”

“Surgeons they cut to heal you. Axe murderers cut to kill you. I’m filthy rich and I’m horny. But you just fucking bore me.”

It’s like a monument in the Stupid Hall of Fame or something. I wrote lyrics less dumb on my Pee-Chee folder when I was 13.

Agreed, though I DO have a weak spot for the lyrics to Freefall

"I pissed away over 10 million dollars / on dope and crack / I passed away, deader than a doornail / But now I’m back

[laugh]

Killer track too, if I may say so.

Pslam 69 is the weakest Ministry album of the 90’s.

I believe Uncle Al…he has been the most lucid in his life as of late and he’s definitely good for it cuz he did mention during SMM recording that the softer side of his talent would be revisited eventually…awesum sauce, y’all[laugh][:P]

“I’m Invisible” makes me feel like that’s actually possible, even likely - much more than that “I’m making a total fucking synthpop album guys” thing from ten years back that resulted in that dreadful Christmas song and like two forgettable metal tracks.

I’ve not seen a lot of new stuff in that soft direction, but for the old discogoths I think they were pretty stoked to see at least the release of a bunch of early era stuff over the last few years which many took (and this seems to be sorta vindicated) as Al finally accepting and embracing his roots. I’ve even heard his say as much in some of the interviews.

We’ll see…
