MINISTRY Movie 'Fix' To Screen At CMJ This October

Make sure that you all laugh hysterically or boo the screen everytime Casey Chaos comes on . . . like everyone in our theatre did.

HAHA im surprised more than a few people int he room even knew who the fuck he is.

I just saw this last night here in Portland. It was good. I (and, I assume by the laughs in the threatre, everyone else) didn’t have any idea who that guy drinking booze and pop from a two-litre bottle was.

My wife, who doesn’t really follow this world of music thought Maynard (who she referred to as “the guy with the bald head and the beady eyes”) was a wanker.

The movie was good. I don’t know why they bothered interviewing the pop bottle guy or the guy from Korn though, I don’t think either of them added anything to the discussion… both of them could have easily been cut. I thought Dave Navaro and Ogre had some insightful things to say, and King Buzzo was funny in a deadpan sort of way. David Yow, AS ALWAYS, was awesome and funny.

The one thing that I thought after the film was that it was odd that they kind of skirted around the issue of Filth Pig itself. This was, after all the tour for that album, which marked (I think) a creative high-point for the band, but also a commercial drop after Psalm 69. The disappointing sales and audience hostility/ambivalence about the new tracks (not all of them, I loved Filth Pig and was very excited at the show) must have contributed to the overall atmosphere of the tour and that stage of Al’s life. Various other people mention it, but never really directly (Trent talks about how they could have stuck with the winning formula but didn’t, but there is no direct reference to the albums, he speaks in fairly abstract terms). I wonder if there was more discussion of this but it was cut out? What do you other people who have seen the film think?

I remember my metalhead friends hating Filth Pig, but I thought (and still think) it was the best thing they have done. But that wasn’t then (and maybe still isn’t?) the majority opinion. There was a lot of hostility towards the band over that album, and I thought this would have been mentioned in the film, but it never came up directly (but, as I mentioned, various people mentioned it obliquely). Do you think there was more discussion of this but it was cut?

I also thought there would have been some retrospective interviews with Al and Paul, but there were not.

And after watching it I am very curious about the roles that Paul and Al played in the making of the film itself. I seem to recall mention on the board here that Paul was fairly involved in putting the film together, and I read the article about Al suing the filmmaker over payments and requiring a final cut, but I’d be interested to know the involvement of both Al and Paul in the making of the film and their views on it.

Apparently Paul was here in Portland on the weekend for the opening, but I was unable to go (and only found out he was there afterwards).

Interesting that Rey narrated it (considering his bad break with the Ministry camp). I wonder if his part in this was done prior to his break (03 I think).

And I had no idea about Al’s new agey superstition. Oils and talismans… wow.

It’s in L.A. this coming week (October 3rd) at the Echo-something-or-other.

rey washam does this movie justice like no one else can.

I agree, Rey Washam is AWESOME!

Filth Pig was widely reviled when it first came out. It sold well because those were the days before you could listen to something on the internet before you bought it, but it was choking bins at used CD stores for years after it came out.

I’m in the camp that loved it right away.

I saw Fix at the Echoplex the other day which was followed by a Q & A with the director, Doug Freel, who also had David Yow from the Jesus Lizard on hand. Random things I remember from the session…

Doug tried to get Gibby Haynes to speak in the documentary. He flew out to London, had his gear ready to go, but Gibby decided he did not want to talk…if I recall, Doug said the silence was deafening.

David Yow did not like the way Al treated his band members.

David mentioned a story about a show, may have been New Orleans, where he happened upon Rey pushed up against a wall with Al’s hands around his throat yelling something about how Rey was fucking up the drum tempo. David said Rey responded, “I’m playing to a click track, Al.”

Doug said that Casey Chaos claimed to have received the torch from Al as far as being a degenerate, drug abusing rock star goes. For those that haven’t seen the film, just wait until you see him lame it up.

Doug said Rieflin wanted absolutely nothing to do with the documentary but that he wished him the best of luck with it. (Got the vibe that Rieflin didn’t want to talk about Al, same thing with Gibby, could be wrong, just my guess.)

If I can remember anything else I’ll post it.

Oh, Man, I kind of wished I’d gone now. That sounds really cool.

Word.

“Is Jourgensen gonna have to choke a bitch?”

I remember reading Rey’s interview with Mark Prindle and getting the hint right then that Al’s kind of a dick.

Man.

I fucking hope this makes it to DVD.

paul will be in NY. and yes, al has female issues, let’s say.

NEAT!

Yow is awesome!

Can’t wait to see him and Rey with Scratch Acid in December. Super excited about that.

Didnt notice that there’d be an Oakland screening (I’m surprised S.F’s Roxy theater didnt get it).

I’m more than likely to go as I really want to re-watch the film again. Any one else?

I’m gonna go to the one a few days before Hallows Eve. Chelsea Cinemas…never been there. Can’t afford CMJ.

Void, we going?

Yeah let’s do it.

Is this still happening? It’s not listed on the FIX website. JLW, call me dude. I didn’t pay my phone bill, but I can accept incoming calls or texts!

I’m still thinking about it…but yeah, nowhere to purchase.

Actually I found it here:

I am definitely going.

And Paul Barker will be there so I can annoy him with questions about the “the Barker Years” albums, Pink Anvil and other obscure shit that no one else cares about!

Oh and tell him to not let his wife cause any more trouble on Prongs!

Thanks…10 bucks works but it looks like I won’t be going. It’s @ 9:30pm & it’s suppose to be a shity day tomorrow. Damn…why can’t this be on Friday/Saturday!

Oh and tell him to not let his wife cause any more trouble on Prongs!

You should print out some issues of Prongs CoMiXXX for him.
