I’ve no idea how drugged out he was, but the Portland, OR show I was at on the Dark Side tour was great. Al was in good spirits, cracked jokes at the crowd, seemed quite happy to be there.
At one point he said something about that being the best show on the tour so far; I’ve no idea if he says that at every show, but if you’ll notice there’s a big difference in reviews of that tour, being much more positive post-Portland than pre-Portland.
I do tend to believe him and think that the show was the band catching their groove.

When I saw the DSOTS tour in Chicago Al and Paul seemed to get along well and it was a fairly high energy show. That was pre-Portland so I don’t know if I just lucked out or if it was a night to night kind of thing. Best part of the show was someone throwing a nasty sweat-soaked t-shirt onstage and Al stuffing it into an unsuspecting Paul’s mouth, much to Al’s amusement.

When Ministry toured the UK i 92 my brother went to ether the Manchester or the Nottingham show, i can’t remember what one but Al refused to go on until someone got some drug for him so he ended up going on about three hours late.
