What was lame about the SMM stuff? Did it just not come off well live?
They kicked off the second encore with Gates of Steel and it was super rad. I suppose this where the “Surprise Guests” came in…where to start?
Between encore sets, all the band members adorned the SMM cover t-shirts and they all had gas masks, at least most of them did. Oh, except Al. They also set up a DJ mixing thing-y bopper next to Al’s mic stand. I think, could be wrong, that this was that Arabian Prince guy (former NWA) who, inexplicably, was scratching at something yet making no sounds at all. After Gates, Al and the band left and it sounded to me like they were just playing “Tragic Alert” from CD, but DJ guy was furiously scratching away. Not sure the thing was even plugged in. Then the band came back out, minus Al (though he came out on stage for a quick second and took a bong hit) broke into “I’m Invisible” with less than enthused Mandy Martyr singing and some half-assed burlesque dancers doing their thing. I think we left after that, don’t know if anything else happened. So, this little SMM showcase was just kinda meh.
