LAMB OF GOD's Randy Blythe still being locked up on a manslaughter

What I do want to comment on, though (not specifically with regards to this case, although many comments I’ve read on sites are good examples), is the annoying attitude that many Americans have when going to another country or speaking of another country. Completely unaware of other sovereign nations’ laws, customs, cultures, or morals, they stomp around like it’s their own backyard, and get all uppity when told they can’t do certain things that they are accustomed to.

It is a VISITOR’S responsibility to conduct his or herself with grace and dignity when a guest in a foreign land. Just because “this is the way pits work in Idaho” doesn’t mean that Prague has the same understanding or acceptance of such a practice.

Americans have a hard time putting themselves in other peoples’ shoes. Let’s just suppose, for the sake of argument, that slam dancing, stage diving, and so forth doesn’t exist in Prague. Or maybe jumping on stage to show love to a band might be ordinary and customary. Now let’s suppose you dropped your teenage boy to a music show because it’s a safe activity that you and your countrymen have all safely participated in before and there was no reason to have any hesitation ------ you find out later, though, that your boy has suffered fatal injuries at the hands of the band or venue’s staff. Are you going to just let it slide because “he should have known what he was getting into”?

ok,

my issue with this is not about how the legal systems differ, my issue is that this came out of nowhere, there was no warning, he wasnt contacted about these pending charges, and that he has posted his bail, but it has been contested, so now he (for the time being at least) is out 200 grand, AND his freedom. i am well aware that different cities, states, countries, regions, and even streets have differing laws and so forth. i am WELL aware of this. as are most people who have to perform overseas or wherever else. this case however, this case stinks of bullshit though.

also, to address the bolded part, i know you are just playing devil’s advocate and trying to resent the situation in such a way to make people think, but thanks to music videos, the mtv ‘in the pit’ thing in the 90s, youtube, and once again, the band’s own promotional live shots, no one who would be buying a ticket for this show would be surprised or taken aback by a pit.

i know what you are trying to say, and in general when people jack shit up in other countries the blame has to sit on their shoulders. in this case though, even if he did push the guy, (which the videos show he was not the aggressor in the equation) there is NO WAY to prove that the push is what gave the kid the head-wound. no way whatsoever.

and yeah, the GWAR guy sounds ignorant as hell. is anyone surprised?

I haven’t seen the video but so far the consensus is that no ill harm was intended from the few posts I’ve seen here. Well, then, a jury will probably conclude the same. It’s a process. The city or victim’s family decided to take action and that’s how it happened. In the US you can be sued for anything. Even if bullshit, you still have to get a lawyer and go through the motions.

Somewhat yes. These people have seen many countries and, I’m sure, know different laws exist for different areas.

Well, like I said, I’m not going to try to play judge or jury without knowing the full details of the case or the laws that may or may not have been broken, and I’m keeping my emotions and personal biases out of the legal discussion.

However . . . to give myself a little freedom with such feelings for just a moment (and yeah, I’m still kind of playing Devil’s Advocate too) I’ve seen plenty of clips on YouTube of the Lamb of God guy (Randy) inciting and promoting what I (no, I’m not an old lady, just a guy with a functioning brain) would consider reckless and dangerous activities.

This stupid “Wall of Death” thing has just made me embarrassed ever since the first time I witnessed it. Telling a thousand people to run full speed into another thousand people and to eff each other up or kill each other or whatever . . . sorry, I don’t care if it makes me seem uncool or wimpy, but that’s just retarded.

And if I was a venue owner and was booking a band known for such shenanigans I’d probably have a pretty extensive list of demands and agreements for them to adhere to (don’t touch the fans, don’t tell them to beat each other up, don’t etc. etc.). I have NO idea if any of this actually does factor into the case or not. I’m just saying . . . Randy already kind of comes across as a giant douche so it’s gonna be hard to convince someone like me that he was just a gentle dude gently keeping his stage clear from danger. Fact is, if Randy had let the security guys do their job instead of going vigilante himself (maybe the security guys weren’t doing their job, I don’t know) on the stage trespasser, there would not be any dispute over who/what caused the injuries.

If Randy is “innocent”, then I hope he’s quickly proven to be and released accordingly.

If not, well, I really won’t lose any sleep over the lack of future Lamb of God albums. I never did like those guys anyway.

Why do people subject themselves to such brutal insanity? Is it boredom? Is it their suburban teen angst release? Sad, man. Imagine if the Crusaders can see this behaviour today, thousands of years from when they did it, but for war purposes. Hilarious!

On a serious note, in that pit, if someone died, you can believe the authorities would speak to him. Guaranteed. They may not arrest him for murder but they would warn him.

I don’t know. It’s horrifying and so idiotic. I am an old school punk/metal veteran. I understand the idea of the pit and have been in hundreds. Yeah, you get bruised a bit sometimes, but mostly people there are just having a good time and keep an eye out for others to make sure (or try to make sure) that no one gets too jacked up.

Then there are shows like Pantera and such where you get these dudes with too many chromosomes and not enough brain cells who think the pit is a great chance to bodyslam people or kick or punch or whatever. Lame. I’ll stick that one out, thank you very much. But even if someone made a bad decision of going in and got clobbered, at least there’s a CHANCE that some people with conscience will pull them out.

With this stupid Wall of Death crap – it’s a perfect storm of brutal mongoloidism. Violent jackoffs at a violent show being told violently by a violent frontman to engage in mass violence against an opposing group of mass vioence seekers. Yeah, that sounds like a blast. And if you go down – then what? Even if someone could actually see that you fell (they won’t see it, by the way), how can anyone get through that giant packed squabbling mess of sweat and testosterone to even try to help. Nope. Ain’t gonna happen. You’re gonna get trampled to death by a bunch of mutant cretins whose greatest intellectual accomplishment was being able to actually “smell what the Rock is cookin”.

Screw that.

i have been accused of being a fuckin moron a few times, so maybe that really just is it, but i am a HUGE fan of extremely violent moshpits.

a few years ago i cleaned up my life, i dropped a lot of people who were rotting themselves and my own heart away, i removed chemicals and a lot of other toxins from my life, i became a vegan, and i got really heavy into meditation and even touched on chanting and spiritual mantras. the whole process really cleared my mind of a lot of things and got me working on a higher level for myself. and yeah, yeah, i get it stupid weak shit fine. haha, but after this, i stepped up my own aggression and fire on stage and in the pit during my friends’ sets. and it was amazingly cathartic, and i think even beautiful.

im not an MMA guy or any of that stuff. i cant get into it, but the release of bleeding, taking a boot to the head, screaming your throat bloody and raw, putting your hand through a monitor… it is a feeling i cant really explain. the whole process of embracing the other side of kali, its beautiful. i mean, im not about grabbing someone and pummeling them, but when i get to bleed and feel my body pull to the point of pain and wounds… its so real.

im sure it sounds stupid to some people. most people even. but when i am on stage, i wanna feel things burning. part of it has to do with my day job, and all the feelings tied in with it, and part of it has to do with what music means to me.

all that being said, i get it that the wall of death (which Sick of it All has been doing for YEARS) isnt everyone’s cup of tea, and the glass bottle thing (which our own Al was QUITE fond of…) isnt up everyone’s alley, but i donno, if i am on stage, i want to leave it bleeding and torn up, and if i am in the audience, i wanna leave it bleeding and hoarse.

but i may just be a fucking idiot, haha.

What’s the glass bottle thing?

“Stick a bottle up your ass, and then I’ll unplug it! Yaaaaaa-hooooooo!”

Yikes. I guess I’d prefer the Wall of Death.

What’s the glass bottle thing?

asking glass bottled to be hurled around. at him, at each other, at the walls, yadda yadda yadda.

My recent post on Facebook. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED:

My 2 cents on the Randy Blythe situation: I haven’t seen the supposed footage but I’ll first off say that I’d hate to see a person go down for something they didn’t do. However, if this means the end of Lamb Of God then, by all means, let him rot in a fucking dungeon. He’s already guilty of being the vocalist of the most repetitive Metal band in the world. I’d probably stand up for the guy if every wasn’t in D. They fucking suck and they just need to quit. I admit, some of those riffs would be cooler in E flat or even C standard but no. Every song is in fucking D. Tool has done enough songs in D to make me sick of that key. Somebody please correct me if I have the wrong key. I’ve never taken music theory in my life. I don’t care if I piss off any fans of LOG or Tool for that matter. Especially anyone from Vacaville. I’ve caught enough shit for liking Black Metal and even that shitty 3rd wave crap that trys too hard to sound like Gorgoroth and Darkthrone is surperior. On that note I good you bid evening.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

I hate that band too. I think they came along after Dimebag Darrell was shot so that all the idiot rednecks have something else to drink Coors Light to while they bump their fat hairy bellies up against each other.

One of the happiest moments was when I found out that LOG would NOT be opening for Metallica at the LA Forum show 4 years back. We got some sucky nobodies called The Sword, but at least I didn’t have to worry about a bunch of homoerotic doucherockers telling everyone to run into each other.

Did some singer actually ask the audience to throw bottles?

lots of them actually.

That sounds extremely NOT fun.

LoG will not be playing with Dethklok then, either.

Excellent.

Every once in a while someone writes something that makes me feel that perhaps my initial assessment of someone was wrong, or that the person has grown as a human and my initial assessment is no longer valid. In the case of Randy, I think both of these might be applicable.

Don’t get me wrong, I still despise the band and would rather listen to Justin Bieber than subject myself to their horrible so-called music, but after reading Randy’s honest and emotional letter here I do have a new appreciation of and respect for the individual and wish him and his terrible band all the best for their lives.

Yeah, the guy is a douchebag but I can’t imagine anything more frustrating than having to explain through a translator, during a trial where I’m being accused of killing someone, what “moshing” is and why people do it at shows. I had never thought about that until reading his little fucking tumblr post.

I know, right? There had to have been times where he just felt like screaming, “Yeah, whatever! I’m an asshole! Our fans are derelict psychos and I killed the kid on purpose. Just put me in jail so I don’t have to explain the concept of ‘moshing’ one more time!!!”

Pretty cool little (possibly fake) story that I stumbled on. In other news . . . the Wall of Death is still totally gay.
