Fema camp is a killer song and a killer song title…
The cover art looks like Reznor’s How To Destroy Angels meets Black Sabbath’s Technical Ecstasy.
Sounds like it’s going to be much better the last couple of KJ albums.
Black Sabbath’s Technical Ecstasy.
Yeah I thought it looked like Technical Ecstasy too.
Fema Camp sounds like its going to be a standout track. Very Eighties sounding, Primobile, sounded like something off of The Black Celebration album from DM, looking forward to it.
ASTEROID!!!
I just listened to the album, here are some impressions:
Tonally it reminds me of Democracy. While I didn’t care for that album overall, it works here. Sounds rather optimistic despite it being about 2012.
Jaz is doing a lot of singing, which I appreciate. I really disliked some of the vocal styles he used since the 2003 album.
Big Paul’s drumming, like on Absolute Dissent, is kind of underwhelming. I’m glad he’s back, but anyone could lay these drums down.
Favorite track so far: Primoble
Least favorite: Glitch, Jaz’s scary-man vocals just ruin it for me.
I’ll have to give it a few listens and let it gestate before rendering a final verdict. Overall I’m feeling positive about it. If anyone had the misfortune of hearing Relapse, this serves as a good palate-cleanser.
I listened to it last night, very old-style Joke, although parts reminded me of stuff from Democracy/Pandemonium era as well. I thought the first half of the album was very good, but the 2nd half was absolutely great. One of their best releases of the past couple of decades, but i always say that about KJ.
KJ were absolutely brilliant last night…in fact they were so devastating the power blew with about half an hour of the set left to go!
I took a friend who hadn’t seen them before and he was totally in awe. I lost him after the first song and didn’t find him until about an hour and 20mins into the set…when I did find him I was happy see & hear he was loving it…then about one minute later…BOOM…power blows and the whole venue is in near darkness. After about 5mins of confusion everyone gets told to leave. Really dissapointing ending to a superb show.
These guys are easily one of THE best live bands on the planet.
It seems appropriate that you went to the concert with a dude. I hope you got JC to sign your cock.
The album is pretty solid.
Somewhat “cleaner” than previous 2-3 albums. Generally doesn’t have the same thick/dense sound of Hosannas but continues somewhat in the direction of where Absolute Dissent went into (more electronic sounding hooks) that would bring about mid 80s comparisons. There’s still moments of heaviness (‘Glitch’ for example is basically a reworking of ‘Majestic’ from Hosannas).
Highlights for me would be ‘Rapture’, ‘In Cythera’ and ‘Glitch’. The last song is a lame waste of time but other than that it’s grand.
I absolutely love In Cythera, although my Greek friend Thom informs me it is being pronounced incorrectly - the ‘C’ should be pronounced as a ‘k’. heh.
I’m really diggin’ this.
Damnit.
Every time I see this post subject, I keep reading: “In Cytherea”
Which, would probably be a lot better.
I can’t find any US release date for MMXII. When will labels learn that it’s a global economy now? You can’t release something in just one country and expect the rest of the world to just sit waiting patiently to get it.
Anyway, Zick hooked me up with a listen. It’s not bad, but I do think it’s their weakest 21st century effort. In Cythera is the best track.
In Cythera rules. It’s miles ahead of the rest of the album. The 2nd half of the album is a lot stronger than the first half. The tunes from the new album are pretty deadly live…in fact the crowd reaction to them was as if they were the classics. Primobile comes in at number 2 for me.
I still like the album overall, but FEMA Camp has the dumbest lyrics of any Killing Joke song.
Yea, even dumber than “Stay One Jump Ahead.”
