Justin Symbol

Sounds like something I’d bang my exes to. Thumbs up!

Perfect yes that is the exact vibe! You can download free from the link:

Did someone actually draw/design your album cover or was that just some clip art? I think it’s really cool.

It’s just an image I found online…a medieval lithograph I believe of a harpy. Curious to hear your thoughts.

It’s got a good groove.

I like it. It’s VERY reminiscent of some Lead Into Gold and I think your adopted and adapted Barkerisms shine through well.

Seconded. Reminded me a lot of Barker, just a little more lo fi. Needs a bit of work on the sounds (ie: the bass didn’t go thru my guts like I’d want it to, coz it sounds like it wants to!). Stronger drum sounds needed too.

The actual song itself was good. The lyrics weren’t really my sorta thing, never been into porn sorta stuff (unless it’s Cock and Ball Torture, where it’s just so stupid it’s awesome… I mean, fist fuck family? yeah).

I dug the way the song ended. Good balance between noise and melodic patterns.

better musical direction for sure.
Nothing about this tune makes me cringe or be embarrassed for you.

This is the best since Cocaine Cliche.

Thanks dudes!! Yeah Barker is definitely an influence, though I think the vocal melodies and the song structure of “Harpies” are more ambitious/complicated than what I’ve heard from Lead Into Gold (which I admit, is not much)…

My favorite thing he’s done outside of Ministry (and related side projects) so far is Pink Anvil. I like Flowering Blight a lot but wish he’d find another vocalist.

This track is really good, nice work!

I don’t hear Barker as much as I do Manson on his lo-Fi sleaziest, without any of the “ghoul voice”, which is a good thing IMO.

What exactly makes them more ambitous/complicated? This a serious question, not me fucking with ya. I’ve never known what people mean when they this kind of stuff

I have zero problem with paul’s vocals on any of his albums. I think his voice adds to the atmosphere to his albums. He wouldn’t even have to sing he could just make word sounding noises and that would still be great.

Wow I think I hear zero manson in this I certainly hear the barker influence though. But either way your right, it’s a good thing.

From what I’ve heard, Paul’s song structures (at least with Lead Into Gold) and vocal melodies tend to be less progressive.

“Harpies” kind of builds from point A to point C both vocally and structurally, where a typical Lead Into Gold song (from my understanding) is more verse chorus verse chorus break chorus…with the vocal melody being the same in those respective parts, just different lyrics.

Again this is my understanding. I am not overly familiar.

Don’t get too far ahead of yourself.

It’d serve a lot of musicians well to look up the meanings of different types of musical textures and forms used in classical and then think about applying them to their own music (this has nothing to do with technical prowess).

Purely because… they’re not that complicated.

I didn’t say my shit is complicated. I said this song is more complicated than what I know from Lead Into Gold. I studied classical forms in college.

My friend, artist Jaxie Oo is designing a series of custom wood-burned Justin Symbol paddles for her company Jaxtaposed Productions.

These will trace my image as an artist in the past 3 years I’ve known her to the present. This is a preview of the first paddle, depicting me from the long-lost “City on a Hill” video (with dead octopus on my head) starring Defacto Obsolete.

That video can now be viewed here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VLxxMHAuQYo

(the infamous turd scene was an outtake of this video and the turd makes a brief appearance here as well)

And here is the unfinished paddle:

That’s really cool.
Can you give me the link again for the turd video, by the way? That shit was classic.

that paddle is actually pretty cool.

didn’t know you studied classical at college? i always thought you were untrained/self taught

I just thought he dabbled in shit.

What? “gobbled in shit?”

I did not study music but did take a couple music theory classes, a production class, and after graduating have done both bass and vocal lessons.

Most of what I know is self-taught but it’s been supplemented by some real teaching here and there. I’m not a virtuoso by any means but know more than your average punk rocker dude…
