It’s surprising that there’s not more love for this album here…given Justin’s success rate on this site. I’m lost for words but ultimately guessing that its lack of melody or structure and general ‘nastiness’ is what has people turning their noses up.
I’m not turning my nose up. I just don’t pay money for albums without tunes anymore, because I don’t listen to them often enough. I’ve got plenty of drony noise and dark ambient and whatnot that’s just collecting dust on my shelf (or virtual dust on my ipod) already.
On first listen (and in the words of the oft revered Maggitooth)…
DEVASTATING.
You are all a bunch of girls for prefering Jesu over this - it must be said.
Like early Swans meets Merzbow meets Wolf Eyes meets Techno Animal. And then twice fucked over. A wall of noise meets a wall of suffering.
My head is still swimming.
Holy terror in our midst. !!. Let it burn then. Corpses. Maggots. Pissed and frightened. Fresh roadkill by the dozen. Packed up and left. Circuits fried. Begged more for still warmth. Received nothing in return. In circles trusted and then forgotten. A black armed minion. Here we step and over. Our bodies twisted. White hot coal burned an ember. We laughed and it bled. Point the finger at sister. Buying whores for family picnics. It stank. Listen with prejudice and tear small wounds in non believers.

Those are the first things that came to mind.
Could this be a new beginning? Or a sad ending?
Either way this album triumphs. (9/10)
Ok. So after reading this post and trying to hold out as long as possible I finally ordered this thing today. I was really turned off by the Vultures Descend track but so many of you claim that it’s the worst thing on there. Please tell me the rest is awesome. I’d hate to have spent my money for noise I can’t stand (aka ICE, etc.)

Ice noise?
I haven’t had the pleasure of hearing the first Ice album but “Bad Blood” is absolutely awesome and anything but noise? Strictly apocalyptic Dubbed Hip Hop through-out that bad boy.
That Vulture’s song was what put me off this album too by the way.
I honestly don’t get what everyone has against that Vultures track. That’s what sold me on the album. What’s so bad about it? The fuzzed out bass sounds great imo. Still digging this album very much.
toot you rule
I know you didn’t mean it like that, but if somebody were to describe something a ice noise, i’d totally be sold. It just sounds interesting… those 2 words
well, he meant the band ICE, whose first LP Under the Skin is a cross-over of sorts between the GOD project and the more Techno Animal sounding Bad Blood release.
As for ‘ice noise’ - I’d suggest Lull’s Like a Slow River which is sorta glacial ambient. or Nadja/Netherworld’s Magma to Ice. which is a collab w/ solo cuts bookending it.

I’m green as can be when it comes this genre and Justin Broadrick. That being said, I listened to this track first because of the comments. I like it, sounds like a procession being led to slaughter.

I don’t mean that ICE is a noise band or anything like that. Just that, to me, it is noise in general. I hate hip hop. I am not an overly fond fan of dub (or dubstep either). To me ICE just sounds like shite. I’m not big on a lot of things in that direction.
Hell yeah. Ice is noisy as hell, but in all the right places. “New Breed of Rat” is probably the illest rap track in the history.
I’m nuts about “The Snake Pit”. I still haven’t come across a beat as gigantic and brutal as the one in that track. That whole album is pure gold…infact I guess you could call it “Ice Noise”.
Ok. So I got the album today and gave it a spin just now. Not bad at all. Very noisy. Very awesome. I see why all of you are raving over it. Justin SHOULD do more work like this. I still think Jesu is great, but this seems to flex his other skills quite well. On first spin I’m really digging on :
When Attention Just Isn’t Enough
Just Breathing
Easy Pickings
Untitled
Still hate the Vultures Descend track though. Other then that it’s a good CD. Well worth the $$.
