I’m sure these guys have gotten laid strictly for being who they are. I didn’t say they were good. Although as fucked up as Rose is I still think the guy can sing. That being said Your petty attacks on my taste in vocalists will fall on deaf ears![:P]

Alright I actually just found my way here today due to the old Godflesh pictures that were posted so I had go sign up and jump in here…
Whoever said that a Telecaster is not good for thick metal tones, BULLSHIT.
My band Monotremata is pretty much a clone of Godflesh from around 92-95 or so. I made my Strat my backup a few years ago when I picked up my made in mexico Tele. Ill hold that thing up against any of your Les Pauls or nu-metal Schecter junk.
A good amp helps ALOT, but so does a humbucker of some sort in the bridge…
My rig is a Tele standard with a GFS Hot Rail in the bridge, tuned down to A -> EH Metal Muff/Boss Heavy Metal -> 82 Marshall JCM800.
Just recently I got ahold of my girlfriends dads old 66 Fender Bassman and have been running that alongside the Marshall with either a Boss SD-1 or DS-1. Cabinets are a JCM800 4x12 and an old Ampeg V412 respectively. Sorry its just as heavy if not heavier than any stereotypical Les Paul/Boss Metal Zone combination…
And a hell of alot easier on your back while on stage!
Anyone here ever heard of a band called Unsane heh.
The Les Paul turns to thick mud. I like articulation and being able to hear dynamics in my playing… The Tele with the right setup will be just as thick only itll actually CUT through and people in the crowd can finally go ‘Oh so the bass player plays that part and the guitar player plays that riff I never noticed that before!’
Dude dont bother routing it…
When I bought my first Strat, I put a Seymour Duncan Hot Rail in it and hated it. Got nice distortion but it was still too thin for my tastes… The Strat now has a fullsize Duncan Distortion in it…
The Tele I decided to say fuck it and try it again because of GFS. The company is actually called Guitar Fetish and their Hot Rail was $35!!! Figured for that price I could try it out and it wouldnt hurt as much as dropping $100 on a Duncan…
The GFS exceeded ALL of my expectations. If I wouldnt have previously dropped $90 on the Duncan Distortion my Strat would probably have one of GFS’s humbuckers in it.
Their pickups are a STEAL at how cheap they are and how well they perform…
Ok, I’ve decided to upgrade the pickups on my telecaster. I’ll bet a humbucker sounds nice and unique on a tele, but I bet it kills some of that famous tele “twang” sound that I want to retain, at least for this tele.
So avoid the Duncan’s you say, Mono? I know Duncan’s are super overpriced, but they do have a good reputation, although I’ve met several people including yourself who are not fans. Makes sense to me though, brand name does not always equal quality product.
Those GFS’s are tempting at that price, just wish I could find some more reviews on them. I’m also looking at some Dimarzio’s that are quite a bit cheaper than the Duncan’s.
I’ve always wanted a Les Paul style guitar, so I think I’ll buy one of those for the chunky/thick guitar sound. I really like this model…
Whoever said that a Telecaster is not good for thick metal tones, BULLSHIT.
OK, well I think telecasters are not optimal for heavy music. You wanna put a hotrod pickup on your twangy guitar, go ahead. Or you can just buy one thats made for it and has arguably the hotroddest pickup made as its standard.
My band Monotremata is pretty much a clone of Godflesh from around 92-95 or so.
The world certainly needs more bands that are clones of better, original bands.
Ill hold that thing up against any of your Les Pauls or nu-metal Schecter junk.
You haven’t played that guitar if you think its junk. It plays beautifully, whether you call it nu-metal or whatever.
Sorry its just as heavy if not heavier than any stereotypical Les Paul/Boss Metal Zone combination…
No it isn’t.

Yeah Les Pauls are mud, right. Cause you certainly can’t tell the bassline from the guitar part in any of the bands of the thousands of excellent guitarists that play Les Pauls.
Theres still plenty of Tele tone with a humbucker but its not as bright and thin as with a single coil.
As for Duncans, its not that Im not a fan, I love the Distortion in my Strat. But when I found the GFS the price/performance ratio was so awesome I couldnt afford not to check it out. And yeah theres no beating $35 compared to $100 for a Hot Rail that sounds just as good if not better…
I still want a Les Paul but never going to drop $2000 on one at this rate heh.
Still a holdover from growing up listening to Ace Frehley.
GoosEye - I dont know your history but to start.
I never EVER in our history claimed my band was ever trying to do anything other then make shit that sounded just like we did. Sorry never claimed to be groundbreaking in fact Im quite blatant about that fact that I just wanted to make music that sounded like my heroes… Could care less whether you like it or not cause its not about you is it? Gee who did Ministry start ripping off and mimicing when Psalm 69/Filth Pig came out?
Yeah I have played Schecters, everyone I know owns one. Never said they were bad guitars but I really dig how alot of todays ‘metal’ players think youre not ‘metal’ or whatever label you try to tag people with if they dont have a certain piece of gear. A tele is not optimal for heavy music? You havent listened to alot and it sounds like you dont really know how to work gear heh. Once again ever heard of Unsane? Ever heard of this little band called Swans? You try to tell me Swans werent heavy. While Norm Westerberg played a telecaster.
Thats really cool that you got your shit and it sounds nice. Me Ive been playing live for over 15 years now and have been around so Ive got mine too. But people need to get over having to have a particular piece of kit that makes you part of the cool scene heh. You stick with your Schecter/Mesa/whatever combo like everyone else… Some folks like to stick out from the crowd though.
Jeez man just came to offer suggestions to a TELECASTER player and man internet tough cool guy gotta come in already…

I agree, I could care less about being ‘Metal’ or who is "Metal’ or whatever. The guy asked for recommendations to get a better heavy tone and I recommended a guitar that fits what he was looking for.

I didn’t say a Tele could not be heavy. Its probably possible to make any guitar sound heavy. But there is a reason you don’t see alot of heavy bands using telecasters. And its not because they don’t consider them ‘metal’ enough or whatever you’re trying to say.

Good for you. And who said anything about a scene? You seem to be all caught up in the ‘scene’ and what’s metal or not and concerned with whether people think you stick out from the crowd. I could give a crap about any of that. I recommended a guitar I find has great distortion tones and plays nice clean too. FYI, I don’t own that guitar.
Jeez man just came to offer suggestions to a TELECASTER player and man internet tough cool guy gotta come in already…
Internet tough cool guy? Man, you are an idiot. You’re the one that attacked my post which had nothing to do with you. Internet tough cool guy indeed.
“The Fall/Reload” is definitely one of the better singles, in my opinion.
I was so stoked when I came across that by accident in a store one day… As much as I love the older Land of/Mind era industrial stuff… FilthPig is probably the one of the entire discog Ive listened to the most…
Hell yes. With the exception of “Twitch” (which will probably never cease being my favorite Ministry album), '95-'03 is definitely my favorite era of Ministry.
Welcome to the forum, guey.
Anyway, back on topic. Don’t know a whole hell of a lot about the technical aspects of guitar, but I’ve this Spector bass with dual EMG pickups that I got used for less than a hundred bones. I love EMGs. Powerful, fat, heavy, harsh, and crisp all at once. Plus, you can abuse the hell out of 'em, no problem. Those things seem made to fuck shit up to/with.
