Flowering Blight

Where are they based out of? where is the disc going to ship from? since I’m in cali how Long am I going to have to wait for the CD to get here?

emseaeye

you hope it does Not resemble Darkside…Nigga say wha!!!
Bite your tongue, sir!
Although it probably will not resemble considering I’ve read interviews where both Al and Paul have said Darkside is their least favorite record. why would Paul want to revisit that time if he didn’t like it?

Afra: "there will be more… "

Does this mean vinyl?

I know it most likely won’t happen, because it is expensive, but vinyl would be sex-pants.

Had a dream last night I was going to a DIY/hardware store. At the entrance was a sign that said ‘Flowering Blight’ indicating to the left, where the flower pots were. On a shelf was an assortment of Flowering Blight goods; cds, dvds (featuring videos for all the songs from A Perfect Pair and then some more vids), coffee mugs (they were Pink Floyd mugs that had Flowering Blight stickers pasted on them) and, the best of the lot, a Flowering Blight watering can. In the dream this all seemed normal to me. The next time I enter a DIY store when I am awake I will be heading straight to the flower pot section.

EPIC FUCKING WIN.

I’m going to Lowe’s PRONTO.

I have my reservations about this - probably won’t buy it.

As someone else here said, USSA was unbelievably mediocre - very poor for a man with such talent and such foresight. I can’t believe that nobody pointed out the fact that the singer…couldn’t actually sing and had zero charisma.

What a waste.

On the other hand, I quite liked Halloween party…so perhaps Paul’s still ‘got it’ as such and this won’t be the monumental fuck up I’ve been dreading. In all honestly though, I feel Paul does better ‘behind the scenes’, in that he’s not much of a frontman. He should hook up with Jesu or maybe Sunn O))) - both bands would really benefit from someone like Barker.

All in all, he’s 100 times the talent that Al ‘Axl Rose Tommy Lee Jovi Motorhead’ Jourgenson ever was or ever will be. So good luck to him!

Well, I’ve commented about the singer from USSA.
I think he sounds like someone who has taken amateur singing lessons.
Other than that I like the music itself. kind of jesus lizardy.

But I’ve got to disagree about Paul as frontman. His singing rocks the block. The ministry songs he sings are some of my favourites, and Lead Into Gold is top notch.

Nothing much can be done to hide the fact that the USSA lead singer is weak and the music itself fairly generic. To me it seemed more like the four of them got together and wanted to just jam for a while. I don’t know how much influence Paul had in the writing but to me it seemed like it was not his project so to speak. Can’t really see USSA going anywhere unless they spend a lot of time working on the material (and get a different vocalist).

But Flowering Blight I would think is not in the same avenue as USSA. The sample of ‘Perfect Pair’ sounded like a lighter version of ‘Corrosion’ so I’d presume it will be closer to Ministry, maybe more accessible than Pink Anvil and not as generic as USSA.

Here’s hoping.

As I mentioned in another thread, a digital download is available for purchase over here: http://www.digstation.com/AlbumDetails.aspx?albumID=ALB000024807

No idea if this is legal but seems like it is. I certainly hope I didnt pay some douchebags instead of Paul. Either way, its a fast way of getting the album.

Im digging it a lot so far. Noisy, heavy and Paul’s vocals are a lot better than expected (I’m not really a fan of his singing in Ministry).

well, this album is totally moody, dark and just depresses the shit out of me. so i can’t say i’ll listen to this often… and yes, it was more interesting than the bush trilogy. i actually expected better treatment of the vocals, because paul’s singing was a bit better in his ministry tracks and on some lead into gold ones (faster than light, age of reason, for example). the content itself is much more focused than the lead into gold stuff, or so it seems to me, because my mind just wanders off in the middle of lead into gold record, not in this one. very little “spoonish” stuff in here too, i loved his bass tones, and will always do. ussa was generic and the vocalist was pretty “meh” too, but the bass tones on that record are really, you know… they’re paul!

overall i only listened to it twice, and i’m not a fan of this “kind” of music; in fact, i expected something more in the likes of paul’s ministry songs (useless, vex, stolen). drums could have more punch, too! and i just don’t understand: why repeat basically the same (title) song, but in three parts at the end? that’s another 13 minutes of the same stuff! what’s up with that?

Well, on the inside of the cover it is written that these 3 parts are a “plus”.
So I expect its a little bonus allowing for the different sounding parts to be listened on their own.

Yeah Pink Anvil was tits. I also agree that Barker is a more interesting ‘behind the scenes’ character. From what I’ve heard so far at least…

That being said I’d hate to see him join either of the bands you’ve listed. Sunn 0))) is far too one-dimensional for Barker’s talents and I’d rather see Pink Anvil develop into a real band with a vocalist than see Barker join Jesu.

The Lead Into Gold comparisons don’t excite me. Lead Into Gold was quite repetitive, lacking much variation in song structure, tempo etc. which is also what made an otherwise decent Ministry song like “Vex & Siolense” so boring.

But I loved Barker’s latest Ministry song “Stolen” and I loved Pink Anvil so I bought this new Flowering Blight CD and am excited to hear it. I also am in regular contact with Max Brody and was interested to see he was on a track. I will try to review it like I did the Ohgr record and also will finally post my long-(un)awaited review of Pink Anvil’s ‘New Year’s Eve Party’.

after a few spins, i’m digging it. it’s not an entire records of wesome songs, some are meh, some are fucking awesome. the lyrical content in the perfect pair is pretty damn cool though, with such lines as

now what you’re saying isn’t really everything
and what i’m hearing isn’t even what it seems
what your showing, even light can’t make it clear
say, your mouth is open, but the meaning is what i
hear, and i listen, but the actions are what i
see what you’re doing it’s so easy, it’s so stupid
you you know what you’re doing, keep it easy, keep it stupid

and

you want it simple, want it easy, want it stupid
you you make it simple make it easy, make it stupid

i’ll let those words sink in. fucking awesome. i’m glad he feels the same way as i do?

overall, i’d say a good purchase, but i can see both sides of ministry now. neither al, nor paul can make a record as good as the older ministry records they made together, but i’d say this record is better than most, if not all, of the bush trilogy.

Overall, I like it. Certainly better than USSA (which was good but not great) or Pink Anvil (which I never even bother to listen to anymore). Some of it I don’t like (the bits that remind me of his “solo” songs from DSotS and Ani…).
Is it better than the Bush Trilogy - I wouldn’t say that. Some of it is and some of it isn’t. I think they serve two different musical purposes. Ministry doing the speed/thrash/industrial-metal stuff and Flowering Blight doing industrial with an almost Tool-like complexity.
As for the art, well let’s just say I’m glad I downloaded it.
In regards to the title track divided up at the end, I’m reminded of the repeated RevCo song on Cocked & Loaded. What is it with these two putting the same song on the same album twice?

yeah, al later made same “neat trick” on cover up - first, the 7 minute piano+metal version of “wonderful world”, then separate piano version, then separate metal version. really really redundant.

i agree that they are both two extremes musically (al and paul), but if you put 'em together and mix it up, you’ll get LORAH or something. their “solo” records just kinda prove it even more.

hmm, you probably should have gotten yours by now. i got mine yesterday. giving it the “first spin” now.

I noticed the newsletter sign-up comes from "floweringblight.com@prongs.org". Afra can probably help you out.
