Finally

[reply][reply][reply]but you can’t really expect customs that are 1000s of years old to be readily accepted by everyone based on a Supreme Court ruling of a handful of people.

Nope. Dont expect her to accept it at all. I expect her to do her job as decreed by the law. Yes, generations for 100s or 1000s of years were exactly that, bigots. But we’ve recognized that righted it and moved on. Well, most of us have. Even the clerks that dont “agree” with it have let their staff issue documents but not kim davis. Shes a vessel for the lord and by putting her in jail they have jailed jesus too!!!1!1!1!!!1. Fuck that old bitch for continuing to practice her bigotry. Her own personal beliefs matter 0. She took an oath to when she took on that job and now shes not following it because, you know, Jesus!
With her “religous freedom” bullshit defense she opens herself up to a lot of shit she wouldnt want to be a part of namely 9/11. The fuckers that ran those planes into the buildng were just exercising their “religious freedom.” Whats the difference? Oh right not her religion. But according to her its all ok because shes just practicing their religion. What a bunch of horse shit.[/reply]

Wow.[/reply]
I realize that my statement is a bit hyperbolic but where do you draw the line? When it come right down to it those highjackers were followign what they thought the rules of their religion. What kim davis is doing is following what she thinks are the rules of her religion. If there isnt anymore of a reason to comtinue having a secular state, i cant think of one. Kim davis shiite christian.

[reply]I admit I am a pie-in-the-sky pipe dreamer for hoping humans someday get beyond their inherent need to go for wholesale revenge once they’ve got the reins.

You think righting a wrong is “revenge?” You think being happy that justice is served to someone who has denied justice to many people is “revenge” and not justice?

Being put in jail for not issuing a marriage license seems extreme to me. Should someone be put in jail for not issuing a hunting license or a drivers license? What about a license to ill?

The marriage license thing is incidental. It has to do with breaking the law. Yeah i know the prosecution wanted her fined to put her in financial straights. But as the judge noted rich people sympathetic to her plight would pay her fines and she doesn’t correct her behavior. So, yeah, jail is where she goes.

Insubordination, failure to perform required job-specific functions/duties, etc.
Either her employer accommodates her to a different position based on her request that her job duties conflict with her religious beliefs or she finds another job on her own (in a right to work state). Same goes for the flight attendant who refused to serve alcohol to passengers due to her religion as part of her job duties. Fire, nurse, EMT, Dr., etc. do not get to decide either.

Yeah, I really don’t get how this became a national story.
Some hag won’t do her job . . . uhhh, okay. She should quit. Or she should be fired if she won’t quit. Her job as a clerk is to issue marriage licenses to whomever applies for them and meet the state requirements (whatever they are). It’s a GOVERNMENT position. If her boss doesn’t want to fire her she should re-position her to mopping floors or filing papers or something.

I honestly don’t care if private citizens want to refuse to bake gay wedding cakes or make dresses for men or whatever. It’s your business, your life, your choice. For me, personally, I’ll take purchase orders from whoever’s checks don’t bounce, and I don’t really care what religion, gender, or political persuasion they are.

But . . . . as a public servant, you kind of have to serve the public. And the law right now is that everyone can get married. Deal with it. Either do your job, or start packing.

From what I understand, she can’t be fired because it’s an elected position.

But that’s also why she has to obey the judge’s orders. She’s a civil servant. She simply can’t refuse to do her job based on her personal beliefs.

If it was cakes, that would be a different story.

I read that some prankster set up a “free Kim Davis” campaign that actually funds LGBT rights…

HAHAHAHA!!!

Thanks for the clarification. I honestly have only loosely been following the story.

I agree with DJ too. Quit wasting time playing this stupid jail game. Just fire the bitch and let someone else take the job. Though I am curious what the actual laws and legal protocol is. If it’s “sit in jail until you’re ready to do your job”, I would love to see just how long her “deep personal convictions” last.

They already let her out.

But again, she can’t be fired. This was the only recourse the judge had. I’m sure there’s some kind of recall procedure to get rid of her, like how CA got rid of Gray Davis. But that’ll be up to the locals if they want to get that going.

The politics of it don’t even matter. She was elected to do a job. She refused to do that job. The judge held her in contempt for that refusal. It’s just that simple.

Yeah, thanks.
It’s pretty funny, actually.
I hope they send her to jail every week.
And I’m 100% with you on it being (to me) a NON-political issue.

If I’m elected as Chief of Police and I order my department to STOP responding to 911 calls . . . .

Yeah, imagine if you went to the DMV to renew your driver’s license, and the old cow at the counter was like “No, I can’t renew this because of my blah blah religion.”

Anyway, just goes to further show how greatly divided this country is.

“I’m real sorry, Sir, but I can’t gives ya yer registration becuz I believes that queerness is wrong and I learned that some of the peoples askin’ to register their cars is a bunch of fudgepackin’ fairies! God bless you and have a nice day!”

I guarantee nobody would want to wait a month for city officials to recall that person and have them replaced in order to get your license to be renewed. You would be screaming for the old cow to be thrown in jail.

Nah, I would just go to a different DMV.[/reply]

I would do both, actually.

Should Obama be put in jail for failing to secure the border or not enforcing federal laws against marijuana? I say yes.

right, cause those are the same things…oh wait they’re not.
Why would obama go to jail for failing to secure our borders? have we had some [strike]crazy terrorists[/strike] pleasant religious folks exercising their right to practice their religion, recently? Perhaps W could go to jail though. Nah, prison is no place for rich white folk. Did congress give a Obama a direct order to secure the border, I think no is the answer because everyone is still arguing about how to do it. and then this is just another money pit anyway because you can’t secure the border. go ahead and build a wall, Trump, cause they dig underneath it. moron.
Secondly, along with all the state troopers and local law enforcement, not enforcing the federal weed law, then yeah I suppose throw them all in jail except, that Obama was not given a direct order from a job to do any of those things. See your false equivalence?

Yeah, I really don’t get how this became a national story.

I wasn’t kidding earlier. She thinks she’s a vessel for Christ. She is on record as saying that. So, that is why she will not step down. Christ wants this stopped and he’s using Kim Davis as this innocent little pawn. It’s totally not even her fault.

As been said already by Mr. Cripple, It is an elected position so it’s not as simple as firing her or repositioning her. to do any of those things would take the state legislature and they are on recess until January. The governor will not call them back into session because they will likely, illegally, side side with her, so there is no point. it’s a matter for the courts at this point. and should she continue to refuse to issue Licenses or direct her staff to stop issuing licenses she will find herself back in jail. Just like Jesus wants it.

I honestly don’t care if private citizens want to refuse to bake gay wedding cakes or make dresses for men or whatever. It’s your business, your life, your choice.

I don’t think you should be able to discriminate in such a way but that’s my personal opinion and I understand why some people think that way.

For me, personally, I’ll take purchase orders from whoever’s checks don’t bounce, and I don’t really care what religion, gender, or political persuasion they are.

That’s really the way it’s s’posed to work.

But . . . . as a public servant, you kind of have to serve the public.

She thinks she doesn’t have to because she’s not a public servant she is a servant of God.

In contrast, weren’t there some clerks issuing marriages licenses awhile back to gay couples before it was made legal? Where was the outrage in those cases? I don’t remember anyone going to jail.

You have a knack for the False equivalency don’t you? Those clerks were not expressly told NOT to issue them. I’m not even sure the no homo marriage was even a law back then, people just didn’t issue them.

If it’s “sit in jail until you’re ready to do your job”, I would love to see just how long her “deep personal convictions” last.

Me too.

They already let her out.

Only because her clerks were issuing the Licenses. if she interferes with her clerks issuing those licenses or refuses to do so herself it’s back to jail she goes.

The politics of it don’t even matter. She was elected to do a job. She refused to do that job. The judge held her in contempt for that refusal. It’s just that simple.

Bingo.
