eyes of christ

I posted something a long time ago about Rape and Honey basically being ‘Twitch 2’ (minus tracks 1-4), the most noticeable difference being the absence of Sherwood on the latter. In fact, once you listen to Tackhead Sound System, you realize how much Sherwood is all over Twitch.

It reminds me of when I first heard NIN’s PHM. I’d already been listening to Tackhead and Keith LeBlanc at the time, so I immediately recognized Keith’s sounds first time I heard that album. I later read an interview where Trent basically said he wanted to hire all the producers (Flood, LeBlanc, Sherwood) listed on the sleeves of his favorite albums.

Feeling creatively VOID today, so I’ll just rehash my posts from 5 years ago, what the hell. [:|]

I was talking the basic drum / synth line which are the same. Many musicians are reluctant to release two songs using the same core components. That said, the sex-o-phone is hot!

John Fryer, too.
I’ve actually always been surprised at how LITTLE influence those guys seem to have had on the actual finished product - I mean, it’s obviously there, but the PHM demos are remarkably similar to the actual album.

yeah i wish al had given more resect to twitch, when you listen to it now you can hear in it how al was trying to apease his fan;s at the time, badically synth pop stuff like WS cept you can tell he’s wanting to toughin it up metal samples and his want to start yelling instead of singing and then at then end he just fuckin goes for it, by the way foes anyone have any live footage from this time or en some pics also “i see red 2” CAN YOPU GIVE THAT to me TEN OH two? version one is fuckin rough

I find it weird how you can hear a faint (taped?) recording of revenge at the start of that live demo of i see red

That’s just tape bleed. The Twitch Demos bootleg that’s from was originally on cassette and the every copy I’ve heard of has that bleed through on the first few tracks. No trace of it on the second version though.

Speaking of the 1st 4 tracks on Twitch, I agree on the Sherwood sound but I really kinda dig Just Like You and in particular The Angel.

Twitch remains my #2 Ministry record behind LORAH (I go back and forth with the two). I think My Possession is the one ‘weak’ track on that album, but I still like it.

If you were referring to my post, I meant excluding the first 4 on Rape and Honey, because they were the more guitar-heavy tracks. Destruction thru Abortive is all very Twitch-like, except maybe the title track. Makes sense, I mean the two albums contain songs dating back to '84.

Before the whole C U LaTour set list debacle, I really thought Just Like You had a chance making the farewell set (in updated form), with its political overtones. Too bad.

That’s all I have for I See Red, if there’s another version, I don’t know about it. I thought there was just the one recording. I have a couple of live pics from the Twitch era that someone here had, or found on the net. Other than that, I have the Twitch press photo of Al in a hat and shades, which I’m guessing is somewhere on the Pics page (along with Al at WLIR in '86):

I just think it’s a bit ridiculous how Al’s faking his British accent all over the place. The WS interview, his voice sounds the same as if it were from TMIATTTT but in the beginning of “Eyes of Christ” Live, he has this hilariously fake British accent. And as one said, I instantly picked up the drums to be the Just One Fix drums… Interesting, I wonder if it’s just coincidence.

I always thought that the Angel was likely one of the songs that Al ‘traded’ with Sherwood specifically because Keith LeBlanc played percussion on it.

Al originally intended “I See Red” to be a single.

Glad he decided to shelve it, since it eventually morphed into the superior “My Favorite Things”.

Here’s “I See Red (take two)” which was a song of the week here once.

Also, while searching rec.music.industrial from above, I came across another industrialish band called Vise Versa doing a song also called Eyes Of Christ from 1980. Doesn’t sound like the Ministry song, but still kinda interesting.

Crap, how’d I miss that second ‘Red’ take? It’s definitley not on my drive. Thanks for the link, hunter.

thanks hunter

Ho, man… THANK YOU, man. This shit made my day.

I think I actually prefer this to “Favorite Things,” even though that little number’s a damned good track in its own right.

Is that Paul in the background running the recording session? [laugh]

I remember the first time this was posted as a song of the week somebody said it was Rieflin.

According to this interview with Chris Connelly :

It seems as If a studio version of “I See Red” was recorded but shelved due to conflicts between Wax Trax and Sire at the time. I would love to see it released at some point in the future on maybe a proper remastered version of Twitch (forget twitched !), but I won’t hold my breath.

I remember the first time this was posted as a song of the week somebody said it was Rieflin.

Rieflin’s the loudest voice on the tape. You can also hear Paul and (much more faintly) Al. Rieflin and Al fight a bit later on on the tape. Good stuff.

Glad this thread was resurrected. “I See Red,” unfortunately, was wiped from my hard drive along with everything else, and I totally forgot about it until now.

Let’s see if I can snag this bitch again.
