END OF AL

Eh, whatever.
I still think there’s potential in this “solo” project. I’m not going to hold my breath, but I think there’s potential.

He either didn’t have a clue or he didn’t care. He, whether intentionally or subconsciously, decided not to challenge himself anymore.

EOT!

I think it’s more than him not challenging himself. I think Al and Ministry thrived on adversity. They were so good because they were so hostile, angry, and defiant. They were on a major label (I’m talking about the WB years, not the Arista) and yet they were uncontrollable and half the time I think their own label was scared to death of them.

They had to operate within certain confines and limitations and with external forces telling them “Do this, don’t do that, you’ll get in trouble with . . . .” and they pushed those limits, antagonated the power structure, and gave a big middle finger to the industry and society in general.

Fast forward to 2006 or whenever . . . . Al gets his own record company (big deal), holes himself in his studio and surrounds himself with “yes men” and access to him is filtered through his wife who refuses to let anything critical or challenging come within a 5 mile radius or they get smacked with legal nonsense and lunacy.

Some people idealize independent labels but the sad fact for Al is . . . . after a long career of making some of the most avante-garde and subversive music ever, his jump from a major label to his OWN label resulted in . . . . The most banal, commercial, MTV-accessible, piece of pop-metal, prefabbed bullcrap ever recorded.

Some people don’t handle freedom very well.

well what is going to provoke al to push himself? the last few cds each get grammy noms, the piss army kiss his ass (and would ban anything said otherwise) he’s surrounded by yesman really. His hairbrain ideas to rip off fans with overprices meet and greets and christmas singles sell what i’m guessing is a decent amount to collectors of all things al. Plus he’s isolated himself on his ranch. bet he has velco shoes too

bet he has velco shoes too

HAHA!!! Awesome.

I think he just stopped caring, period. The solo album certainly does have potential.
