Prison bound is different you have to like S.D. to get into that disc
I don’t know about that. Someone that is into the OC Hardcore stuff and then picked up that album might feel like the same chump that got into TSOL by listening to their first EP and then decided to pick up “Hit and Run” or “Revenge”.
There’s a clear separation of “old SD” and “new SD”. There’s good stuff in their new catalogue, but I could totally see how some could be quite partial to one era or the other.
self titled i agree on with you.been i fan of there’s ever since i seen them on Nightflight back in the rare early 80’s.
but some people like to hear a little newer stuff to get hooked on.i have everything possible on cassette , lp and cd and bootlegs by the boys.love 'em.
I’m watching “Another State of Mind” now. So funny. I just saw one of my favorite parts with douchey up-his-own-ass mongo skinhead looking dude with explaining how to slam dance.

I was just thinking about the “PUNX House” Mission the other day…“It is my opinion that this music does not bring much glory to God.”
Maybe it’s a sign of my getting old and cantankerous (ok…MORE cantankerous) that I really wish people would call it ‘slam dancing’ again instead of ‘moshing.’ ‘Slamming’ just always…I don’t know, the word sounds more like what the action feels like, I suppose.
I don’t like the word “moshing”. It sounds so gay. As for mosh pits and slam pits . . . they’re kind of two different animals to me. Basically, mosh = metal and slam = punk.
But I usually just say “the pit”. I.E. – “I’m gonna go down in the pit.” If I used the verb form, I’ll either say, “I was down in the pit SLAMMING” or something I’ll just say, “thrashing”.
The GAYEST of gay terminolgy, though, is the word “Circle Pit”. I hate that the term even exists and that people actually use it. But I guess when the term is used it’s obviously NOT a slam pit . . . . it’s a bunch of jackasses running (or walking) around in a circle.
Okay . . . . here’s my gayest confession of the year, though. My buddy’s brother was big in the punk scene (OC) back in the early/mid 80’s. So Gabe and I would kind of get second hand exposure / entrance as a result. We’d steal or borrow Sam’s records, videos, etc. and see what stickers were on his truck, and then we’d check out those bands. Anyway, we were about 12 when we snaked his bootleg copy of “Another State of Mind” and watched it religiously . . . . that part with the dingus teaching us to slam dance . . . yeah, that was our first slam lesson. And when we’d be with other kids and there was some music, Gabe and I would start slamming (this usually stayed as a 2 person pit with us slamming into each other, crouched low, high stepping, and trying to look tough, but we sometimes got others to join us). As retarded as this sounds, by the time I actually got some REAL pits to go and test my metal in, I was already well practiced and trained. So, yeah, I kind of owe a bit to that stuck-up-his-own-ass moronic skinhead.
And I’ve never understood what the difference is between slam dancing and moshing…
What term? Moshing? Where/when did Bad Brains use the term? I always blamed the metalheads for it.
Growing up I’d always known it as slamming.
First I’d heard the term “mosh” was with Anthrax (“Caught in a Mosh”). Thrash was big at that time and eventually it seems that “moshing” kind of took over as the most accepted/used term.
The Washington D.C. post-hardcore band Fugazi opposed slamdancing at their live shows. Members of Fugazi were reported to single out and confront specific members of the audience, politely asking them to stop hurting other audience members, or hauling them on stage to apologize on the microphone.
I can vouch for that. Happened to us twice at two Fugazi shows where Ian got all pissed at us and told us he’d give us our money back (8$ I believe) and make us leave if we didn’t stop. Probably didn’t help that we were all shitfaced at a straight edge show…
Of course we then began asking him to play Minor Threat songs over and over after every song.
HAHAHAHAHA!!!
I can’t think of anyone that I so equally love and hate at the same time as Ian. I’m always struggling with it. “Dude, Ian MacKaye, he’s so rad . . . oh, wait, no, he’s a total fag . . . but Minor Threat and Fugazi were badass . . . yes, true, but . . . wait, actually he’s a big pussy. DAMMIT!!!”
Mosh pits pretty much ruin the concert experience for me. I get there early and find a good spot but have to deal with some asshats pushing me around the whole time. I’d be fine with it if I was allowed to punch them in the face, though.
I’m not a fan of them either. It’s cool as long as they keep to their part of the floor, but i like to do the same as you, find a nice spot and stick with it. Then some fucking giant comes and stands right in front of me and i have to keep moving about to see past him, hahaha. There’s a lot of rude people at shows, i almost got punched at Black Sabbath by some guy who was shoving people out of the way and pushing between people who were obviously together. He barged between me and my friend, so i stuck my foot out and tripped him. He didn’t like it and started threatening me, i think me grinning at him might have confused him, so he left me alone and walked away cursing.
