I look forward to hearing this. When I’m back to my PC later today I’ll check it out and throw some notes up.
Thanks for sharing.

my pleasure mate- i’m really keen to hear what ya reckon after you sent me that video of EL&P
I wasn’t planning on listening because the words “extreme” and “metal” turn me off when put together. I was quite surprised to find out how subdued the guitars were and how in the forefront the piano was. I actually quite love the recording! I’m impressed you could get a guitar player who didn’t demand to be more upfront.
Also, the samples and such are great. I like the piece best when it’s in dirge/drone state but that has more to do with the Chopin original.

I completely agree with you. I’ve had a hard time describing this project to people, because I know if someone was telling me about classical and metal, I’d be instantly disinterested. It’s more often than not done completely wrong and just seems like an opportunistic attempt at some sort of crossover.
The guitarist definitely followed the idea that we were trying to bleed the piano parts into more conventional instrumentation so that they sounded like they depended on each other. So noone really stands out, even the piano.
It really frustrates me when bands do this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TKuezA9stGw. I mean, it’s not terrible, but it’s definitely something that made me want to go out and try to do it better.
Yeah, that Youtube clip is exactly what I feared your work would sound like. Listening again and still like it a lot. That drummer you have is a fiend.
brutal. skitz is pretty notorious… did a tour with the guys from sunn o))) and mayhem under the name gravetemple. check that out if u ever get a chance!

HAHAHA!!! At least their band name is creative. “Angels’ Grave”. Wow. Inspiring. And the smug grin of self-satisfaction on the guitarist in front just makes me want to throw a beer bottle filled with urine directly at his head.
In light of your comment, I’ve banned smiling for myself and my band mates.
They told me to get fucked.

HAHAHA!!! Smiling in and of itself ain’t bad on stage. It just depends on the setting and the type of smiling. Iron Maiden smiles on stage all the time, but it’s that smile of joy expressed by dudes having an absolute blast doing what they love doing and getting paid for it. Plus, they’re the leaders of the game and absolutely dominate the stage.
That smile by the Angel’s Grave dude is totally off-putting because he’s serving up a heaping plate of mediocrity and standing there like he’s waiting for President Obama to come running with the Nobel Peace Prize of Awesomeness or something. Show some humility, Bro! You’re a two-bit metal band playing to a bar room of 50 people. You don’t exactly have Sony banging down your door with a million dollar contract.
So, yeah, you don’t need to give everyone Euronymous’ List of Rules for Acceptable Black Metal Behaviour. If you and your homies are having a blast go ahead and smile your asses off (assuming the performance doesn’t call for grim ass frowns).
Today, Prongs is killin’ it with new tunage.

Gunnar, I totally agree with you.
Believe me, if they’d done it right, there wouldn’t be much self-satisfaction… more, exhaustion! Taking on the whole sonata has been really demanding. It’s probably one reason everyone in the band’s been getting along, because it’s not like we wanna burn ourselves out any more!!!
The response has been cool. I’m really glad you guys liked it
