I downloaded the Brutal Legend demo, but haven’t gotten around to trying it out yet. Lost PLanet 2 looks pretty interesting though.
Does anyone here remember the name of the computer game that was going to come out sometime in the mid to late nineties that was based off the artwork of Brute. If I remember this right it was going to have a soundtrack by none other than PAUL BARKER [shocked] [:)] [:)]
Excellent, thanks JLW [:)] I remember having an article on it in a game magazine, it must have been made during the downtime between Filth Pig and DSOTS.
Sounds kind of like a Freedom Fighters esque game with the squads, did anyone play that?
Grmpy - modded gamecube would allow one to play backup games as well as the ability to play homebrew, ie - emulators for N64, SNES, Mega Drive etc etc etc… some chips give it more functionality than that too, (ie. MP3 support, things like that, you can even get a bigger case for it if you want to run full size discs for… uhh… just because, but the drive motor wasn’t really built for that, I’ve heard it wears them out quicker)
JLW - Thanks for the link! I played that years ago (I thought it was MAC Only), was pretty average, but I thought the graphics were cool, and had just snagged a beatbybeatbybeat DVD not long before playing it so I recognized the style. Gameplay was pretty generic from memory.

that sounds cool, how do you mod the cube? is it just some chip that you sodder onto your cube’s motherboard?

Yeah there’s a couple like that, Viper and Qoob chips are the more advanced ones and require wires to be soldered.
The XenoGC is the cheapest and most basic, can’t remember if that one allows homebrew… I think it does. But this one has no wires, it sits over some part of the circuit on the DVD drive or something, rather than the main board, and you just have to dot solder on about 7-8 points to make it stick there.
You need a special screwdrive to open the gamecube too, can usually buy it from places that sell the chips, or you can make one out of a melted pen (seriousley!) There’s tutorials on Youtube if your thinking of doing it yourself.

I might. I still have the gc which is a redundancy cause I have the Wii. Which, as I said before, plays the gc games. So It won’t be a big deal if I break it. Might be worth it to learn a new skill. Thanks for the tip.

Mechanical dickery is always worth it, especially in the case of the Gamecube. If you can find a way to break one of those things, you deserve a medal.
Hey you can softmod a Wii now? Last I heard was about the WiiKeys, but then they dont work for newer models or something. Thats pretty cool, I softmodded my Xbox easy and works like a treat, cost about $14 for the pieces lol. Shame you cant (yet) soft mod the 360.
Oh you can Softmod 360 too, nice. Teaches me for not being up to date with my modding information lol. I would be uncomfortable modding within warranty periods if I got a new console anyway… although if you softmod you could probably just flash it back the way it was and MS or Nintendo would be none the wiser.
This stuff is pretty complicated
what the hell is a soft mod? is that just a software modifiication?
I’ve sumbled on Wiizle Shizzle Dizzle
you just load this to a SD card and then load it onto your wii?
I’m looking to play PAL games on my NTSC console (specifically gottlieb pinball classics)
Seems like you two (stairwell catgoat) understand all of this jargon care to translate for a brother?

Not sure on the current consoles smurf, but yes Softmod is generally all done without having to crack the console open so to speak.
For Xbox classic, for example, you had a patched save game for Splinter Cell, when you loaded the save game, it booted an installer for a new operating system.
As long as you have a decent tutorial you should be fine.
If you want to play original discs only, you used to be able to buy a freeloader disc for gamecube, which would let you play Pal/Ntsc/Ntsc-J without any modification… again not sure about Wii though. Try checking out some of the tutorials on afterdawn or that link catgoat provided.
