Yeah. Almost. A copy of TMIATTTT ended up on Kubrick’s desk in the early 90’s as it contained samples from Full Metal Jacket that had not been cleared for use. Kubrick liked the album so much he dropped all notions of suing for copyright infringement. And it was Kubrick who played Ministry during the filming of Eyes Wide Shut, not a staff member.

A while ago I was reading about some early attempts to film William Burroughs works before Cronenberg finally took on the Naked Lunch project (by the way I do respect DC’s adaptation of it).
Apparently there was going to be a version of “Junky” with a screenplay by Terry Southern, and with Dennis Hopper as Burroughs.
Yes, let that sink in - the same Dennis Hopper who at the time (1977) had snorted so much coke that WSB biographer claims “the bridge of his nose was misshapen and discolored” and “he could hear telephone wires talking to him.” He had totally let himself go during the filming of “The Last Movie” in South America and would have been a
nightmare to direct.
Oh and Southern was fond of mixing up something called “Brompton’s Mixture” which combined coke, morphine, cough syrup and alcohol.
I think a movie about the abortive attempt to make “Junky” into a movie would be amazing. Like “Living In Oblivion” on…well…a mixture of coke, morphine, cough syrup etc. etc.
Just watched Naked Lunch last night for the first time in a while…I love the film(not my fave Cronenberg-that would be Videodrome)…I remember seeing Naked Lunch in the theater in 1991 when I was 20 in some weird little indie cinema on Miami Beach…it isn’t any less bizarre when I watch it now…I defy you to name another movie with a transmogrified typewriter that has a talking asshole…
I am still waiting for the ultimate adaptation of a Philip K Dick novel…I think Linklater’s A Scanner Darkly is the one that has come closest in spirit…Blade Runner,Total Recall and Minority Report made valiant efforts…I would love some crazy director try to adapt UBIK or The Three Stigmata of Palmer Eldritch(prob my fave novel ever)…oh well,time will tell…
